Overview:
In recent years, communities across the country have been debating the merits of recess in elementary schools. Some schools have decreased the length of recess, or have eliminated it altogether, while community members have fought to create laws to protect recess.
Instructions:
• In your reflection, discuss the following:
o Does your state have laws to protect recess? Research and share your findings with the class.
o What are the values of recess and the benefits of outdoor play?
o How can you advocate for recess within your own communities?
o Do you think eliminating recess for children who misbehave is an effective punishment? Why or why not?
