Teaching Ping-Pong
Teaching Ping-Pong
After reading about shaping watch the video depicting two pigeons playing videos found in the tab Shaping and Social Skills. Then using what you have learned about shaping, stimulus and response prompting, and positive reinforcement develop a procedure you would use to go about teaching pigeons to play ping-pong. Think carefully as to what constitutes hitting the ball during this game. HINT: There are at least three separate behaviors that must be analyzed, taught and programmed for for these athletes to be able to participate in Ping-Pong.
Again, this assignment is asking for you to design and write the instructional procedures for each of the shaping approximation you select for teaching the game. So, how are you going to get the players to demonstrate the desired behavior. This is where you would use your prompting procedures or other learned teaching strategies.
Remember, Shaping is a procedure you may consider to use as part of your BIP for the final project so be sure to be clear and specific so anyone reading it could replicate your procedure to teach their pigeons.
