Equity and Social Justice
Social Awareness Campaign Summative
As your final project, you will challenge existing social inequities to raise awareness about an issue in order to promote social justice
Step 1:
Choose your general focus (social category of identity):
|
Step 2:
Think about which aspect of your larger topic you would like to explore (ex. “race” could be narrowed down to racial profiling by police or Eurocentric concept of beauty or “class” could be narrowed down to exploitation of child labour). Brainstorm a list of inquiry questions to guide your research.
Step 3:
Begin your research. Start by looking in our course material for articles, powerpoints, etc that might be useful to you. You will need to submit all research (notes, print-outs, names of videos/docs etc.).
Step 4:
Create a purpose statement about your topic that focuses on.

Step 5:
Decide your format and audience:
- Poster
- Design a workshop
- Photo essay (photographs must be your own)
- Opinion article
- Artwork/Mural (must be accompanied by a written or verbal explanation)
- Ted Talks (filmed lecture)
- Blog (posts relating to your topic)
- Social media page (twitter/instagram with posts relating to your topic)
- Start a club during CT
Step 6:
Submit a rationale for your project (approximately ½ page single spaced)
Things to consider:
- A Visual component– think about the images and symbols you can use and their size, colour, placement, and position in your creation (this also includes consideration of the text you use).
- Words – choose words and create phrases and sentences that are strong, descriptive, and evoke emotion
- Audio – if you are using music or presenting orally, think about the music you choose – the lyrics and instrumentals, your tone, gesture, facial expressions and how the audience will see your creation.
