Fellowships Abstract (1 page or less) Background: Population and Local Problem Area (gap) Methods Intervention Results Conclusion Key search words Introductory Section Background (Problem description)
Discusses the relevant findings of the background in the population affected
Discuss the gap in practice that was identified and that will be addressed
Literature review
Key literature as it relates directly to the project (What is known about the problem and how managed in previous studies)
Organize studies by concepts or study questions
Compares, contrasts, and synthesizes the literature for your change or intervention
Uses present tense for non-research findings
Uses past tense for research findings
Project Question
State your question that was developed for the project instead of the PICOT Framework
Project conceptual framework presented; Importance of framework design as it relates to implementation of this project
*Visual map of framework is included in appendix Methods Section Design
State the design clearly (Is it QI, EBP, or combination)
Provide the rationale for this design for the project Population
Identify the target population; discuss the sample size;
Power analysis is not used for QI since data is not new, but obtained from other sources
Power analysis is not used for small numbers Setting
Briefly describe the setting
Do not use names or locations for practice or facility or city. (an example to use: hospital in Texas)
Measure Methods
Discuss the concept(s) to be measured and method chosen
Discuss reliability and validity of instrument(s) used
*Attach letters of permission and copies of all measurement instruments in the appendices Procedure
Explain process in detail (use past tense)
Discuss how informed consent was obtained if required (informed consent is not needed for a practice EBP or QI)
Discuss who collected data, where, how
*Provide a copy of the protocol and flow chart of the data collection process (in appendices)
*Provides step by step detail of the procedure or protocol. Provides copy of any implementation documents in appendices (i.e. dashboard, educational tools, letters, etc)
*Place data collection forms used in appendices Statistical analysis
Describe how data was analysis (QI Macros or SPSS)
Discuss the statistical analysis used to evaluate the data: run chart, paired T test, etc (Keep your data simple)
Ethical Considerations
Was there a formal ethics review? Were there any conflicts of interest? Results Section Results of project outcomes
Describe the results of your findings: This is the facts, no opinions or discussion.
Ex. 25 patients showed for appointments and 5 did not show (p< .002)
*All results should have charts (appendices) Discussion
Do not restate the results
What do the results mean to the practice or patient population?
Summary of the Key Findings
Strengths of the project
Future project opportunities (other gaps identified)
Will project continue with revision?
Future research opportunities Limitations
Describe the weaknesses, threats, or difficulties limiting proposed implementation of the project
Are there barriers to overcome moving forward?
Conclusion Section Conclusion
Usefulness of the project
Sustainability
Implications for practice
Potential for implementation by others
