1.) The author suggests four aspects of using the “sociological perspective” to understand human society. In 5-7 sentences, answer the following:
Select one of the four aspects.
Gender
Provide a unique example different from the textbook.
This reflects one way in which social sciences like sociology are similar to natural sciences. All of them try to understand and study their subjects objectively and attempt to uncover the associations that create order in each world through observation that is controlled.
Explain how this aspect may be relevant to your life.
This aspect is essential because the society is firstly divided into two different genders: males and females. Each society and the relationships created between the members depend on the relations between the two genders. It is only after understanding the associations that one can understand how the society works.
2.) Imagine that you are going to do sociological research.
Describe the topic.
The topic could be the effects of a supported program of employment on psychosocial indicators for individuals with disabilities.
Describe the methodological approach you would use.
In such a research, the best methodological approach would be randomized experimental design. Explain why you selected your preferred approach.
This is because it is especially excellent in internal validity. It rules out such risks and threats as maturation, history, testing, mortality, instrumentation and interactions of selection.
The American Sociological Association has established a code of ethics for sociologists to adhere to.
Discuss which of the five principles you feel is the most important and state why.
Respect for the dignity, rights and diversity of all people. I think this is the most essential because this is one problem (discrimination and disregard of people’s rights) that the world has dealt with for centuries. Making sure that one of the key issues affecting most populations is addressed is the most essential thing.
From your perspective, describe what seems to be missing from the list that you feel is important for a sociologist.
Honesty. This is one of the most essential virtues that any researcher should have. It ensures validity and increases people’s trust.

Please respond to the following:
Explain how the various agents work together to socialize today’s adolescents compared to the socialization of your grandparents or parents.
The current agents try to identify with the adolescents by attempting to see and understand how they live and acknowledge it as their choice. Our parents and grandparents did not do this, they followed the rule they know it all and stood by their decisions without listening to what adolescents have to say.
Imagine how the next generation might answer this same question.
It is feasible that the subsequent cohort will be freer with the adolescents sharing similar opinions and views. It is also possible they will have more knowledge of how to deal with adolescents than today’s parents because of increased advancement in skills and knowledge.
2.) A status is a recognized social position that an individual occupies. People occupy many statuses at the same time. Each status has a role associated with it. A role is the behavior and attitudes expected of someone who occupies a particular status. Discuss your current ascribed and achieved status set.
My achieved status is a student. I have earned or achieved this position because I worked hard in high school and the previous classes to get a qualification that guaranteed me a position in college. On the other hand, I am ascribed to be someone’s child. My ascribed status, therefore, is someone’s child. I was given this status at birth because I was delivered to my parents. It is a status that I did not choose or earn but assigned.
Identify your statuses that operate as a master status. If you have no master status, state what will have to change for you to hold a master status.
The statuses that operate as my master statuses include that I am a child of my parents, my sex, my age, education and even sexual orientation
Describe the role expectations of your statuses.
There are different roles I hold because of my statuses. For my achieved status, I others expect me to finish college and get a degree after which I should secure a well- paying job. For my ascribed status, the society expects me to remain respectful to my parents and to take care of them. For my master statuses, the society expects me, for example, to find a life mate to spend the rest of my life with and to do well in education and ultimately life.

From the first e-Activity article, discuss whether you agree or disagree with the article’s premise that the media portrays women as sexual objects. Describe the boundaries you think that the media should adhere to when it comes to issues of sexuality. It is true that the media portrays women as objects of desire and sex. I think that the media should enact some boundaries when it comes to sexuality. For example, there is no necessity to introduce a woman’s sexuality when advertising things like cars, houses, seats, beds and other commodities. There is also no need for the media to always show naked women to increase the number of viewers and ratings.
From the second e-Activity, identify any items from the list that you feel are not a violation of a social norm and propose items that you would add to the list and state why.
Order food that is not on the menu
Say hello to everyone
Ask for some toilet paper
Eat steak using a spoon and knife
There are things that should be on the list like wearing provocative clothes and littering
Explain who is responsible for establishing what is, and is not, considered deviant behavior.
Everyone has his or her opinion of what is supposed to be categorized as deviant and what is not. Therefore, this responsibility should be left with a central figure of authority like the police department
