  6. Who are the corporate leaders in these efforts and what distinguishes those companies from others that don’t seem to be measuring up?
  7. In your assessment of the company that you have been assigned, please discuss social responsibility activities related to:
    • Environmental impact
    • Sustainable development
    • Consumer welfare
    • Fair trade
    • Treatment of employees
    • Relationships with customers, suppliers, distributors, communities, investors, and regulators.
  8. What efforts has your company made on the social innovation front? (Be sure to explain what social innovation is).
  9. Identify what you see as the strengths of your company as they pursue their socially responsible goals as well as their weaknesses and challenges as they work to advance their position as a socially responsible global leader. (Note – This is not a conventional SWOT analysis. This is intended to assess social impact).
  10. In your estimation, based on your research, do your company’s actions square with their espoused corporate values? In other words, is your company “walking the talk”? If your answer is yes, explain why you believe this and if you believe that your company is falling short, explain that shortfall as well.

Data Breach Assignment

Instructions 

Identify one such data breach that has occurred within the past 5 years (what).  Please provide some background information (when and where), the details of the breach (how), and the identity of the perpetrator, if known (who).  It is important to choose an incident for which at least some of the costs have been determined.

Two additional aspects of the breach and its impacts are important for you to explore (why).  Please report any estimates of the total economic loss incurred as a part of the incident, including any expenditures by the victimized firm to compensate individuals and/or to prevent recurrence.  Finally, please comment on what you believe to be the motive for the data breach, especially if the costs seem low in proportion to the amount of data stolen.
