Technical Manual (Descriptive Essay)
Create an instruction manual for a technical device or procedure in your own field. The
instruction manual should be for a specific process, task, or product. The manual should use
specific technical skills you are currently developing in your other classes and/or have used in
your profession. Note: You cannot use a cooking recipe or create a cookbook. These instructions
should be relevant and informative for your intended audience, and must include all of the
following elements:
•Clear and limiting title•Informed content
•Descriptions and specifications
•Visuals (Diagrams, Icons, Illustrations)
•Appropriate level of detail and technicality
•Logically ordered steps
•Notes, hazard notices, safety information
•Sections, headings, appendices
The manual assessment will be based on the technical proficiency of the instructions, the quality
and readability of the introductions, transitions, and safety information, the functionality of the
instructional visuals, the effectiveness of the design (visual layout, readability), and the logical
strengths of the steps, sequences, and transitions.
MY INSTRUCTIONS:
This assignment is to create an instructional, technical manual. Essentially, it’s writing directions
for a product or procedure. I have chosen to create my manual on HOW TO CLIP YOUR PET
BIRD’S WINGS. Create a step-by-step, detailed guide on how to clip the wings on one’s pet bird.
Note that the instructions for this assignment mention including visuals such as diagrams,
illustrations, etc. Including these would be extremely helpful, though it is okay if you are unable
to. If you cannot include them for whatever reason, I can simply do it later. In the additional
materials, I’ve included a copy of the professor’s instructions as well as some helpful links to
model the manual after. Thank you!
Relaxation procedures and the behavior hierarchy
Read the following scenario.
Marla is a 24-year-old woman who recently graduated from college and began a new job at an
advertising firm. She has come to see you, a behavior analyst, for what she reports as extreme
fear of social situations. When she is in a group of 3 or more people, she says her heart starts
racing, she gets sweaty, she stutters, and she shakes. In college, she avoided parties and large
gatherings and tended to keep to herself. Now that she is working, it is becoming increasingly
difficult for her to avoid social situations. Her boss and co-workers expect her to attend office functions and client parties, as networking is a large part of the job. Marla is very artistic and
creative and has already designed several successful ads for clients, but she is afraid that she
will lose her job because of the difficulties she is experiencing socially.
Your response should be written as if you are explaining your plan to Marla.
1. Identify a possible unconditioned stimulus and an unconditioned response in Marla’s case.
Identify the neutral stimulus, conditioned stimulus, and conditioned response from her case. Use
the diagram below.

2. Explain to Marla how you could help her modify her behavior utilizing either systematic
desensitization or in vivo desensitization. Provide a rationale for your selection.
Include the following in your behavior modification procedure:
A sample behavior hierarchy with at least 10 situations
At least one relaxation procedure
A description of how relaxation procedures and the behavior hierarchy are used together
Stakeholder Presentation (Proposal)
For this assessment you will create an 8-12 slide PowerPoint presentation for one or more
stakeholder or leadership groups to generate interest and buy-in for the plan proposal you
developed for the third assessment.
As a current or future nurse leader, you may be called upon to present to stakeholders and
leadership about projects that you have been involved in or wish to implement. The ability to
communicate a plan—and potential implications of not pursuing such a plan—to stakeholders
effectively can be critically important in creating awareness and buy-in, as well as building your
personal and professional brand in your organization. It is equally important that you know how
to create compelling presentations for others’ delivery and ensure that they convey the same
content you would deliver if you were the presenter.
