Discussion: Motivation Theory

Discussion: Motivation Theory

As discussed in the background reading, McClelland’s Need Theory talked about three main needs: need for achievement, need for power, and need for affiliation that motivated employees’ behavior.

  1. Based on what you have learned about McClelland’s Need Theory, which need (or needs) is the most important for you at this time in your career?
  2. Once you’ve answered, do a word search on “McClelland’s need theory test” and find an online survey that measures your needs. Report what you found. Were the results surprising, or what you initially suspected?

Also, provide the link to the test you found in case any of your classmates want to use it. Compare and contrast your results with those of your classmates.

Additional Key Elements of the Assignment:

Your Initial Post should occur in a timely manner (by the third day of the module for full timeliness points). Include the original questions along with your initial, informative post. Support your post with information from at least one reference and provide the complete source information (so that your peers can find the article if they wish). Bring in your own personal experiences, as applicable.

Your Subsequent Posts: Read through responses by peers and post responses to at least two classmates’ posts. Bring in ideas/comments and/or research not mentioned yet.

Remember: To receive full credit in this forum, you need to post a minimum of three quality posts (your own initial post, and responses to two classmates). Only one outside source is needed (in the initial post). But in any post, if you borrow ideas/information from other authors, give them credit for their work.

Now that you have completed the three assignments in this module, do you agree with the statement, “Yes, I can meet the three Module 2 learning outcomes”? If your answer is no, please review the material again before taking your quiz in this module.

M02 Career Project Part 1

Welcome to the Career Project!  This project is divided up into 3 parts, with Part 1 being due in this module.

In Part 1, you will select the criminal justice career that you will research throughout the rest of the course.

To complete Part 1, create a document with a cover page that includes your career title, your name, course, professor, and date.  On the second page of the document, identify the career you will research and explain why you chose this career (1-2 paragraphs). Include a link to an actual job posting in your chosen career (more on this below).

Your career may be the entry-level job you may start out with or it may be your dream job.  Be sure to be specific; it will make your research easier.  For example, don’t select forensics, it’s too general.  Try choosing forensic scientist or evidence technician. If you select law enforcement, try choosing from local, state, or federal law enforcement, and a specific position within law enforcement (i.e. officer, deputy).  Some careers may not be an actual career, but are a duty of a position (i.e. K9 and SWAT are additional duties of an officer) . To help you narrow it down, search your career choice online and view actual job postings.  Include a link to the job posting in your paper (you will also need this job posting for Module 3 Cover Letter).  Ensure that the job you select exists (remember the myths/realities from chapter 1!).

Save Part 1 and upload it via the link below.

Part 2 is due in Module 5; Part 3 is due in Module 7.
