Discussion Board:
- Which part of the teacher hiring process appears to be the most susceptible to legal problems? Why?
- The author states “Probably nothing will give more evidence of a school leader’s ethics than the way he/she treats all people.” Comment on this quote by using an example from your own experience (no names).
Professional Ethics Case Study
- Professional Ethics Case Study: In speaking with graduate students, I frequently hear about various personnel practices that are perceived to be unethical (e.g., favoritism in the workplace, discriminatory hiring decisions, sexual harassment, etc.). In a well written essay of no more than 5 pages, please describe one such issue that you have either read about or encountered/witnessed (without mentioning specific names of individuals). Be certain to:
- Fully describe the event and explain the (negative) impact of such behavior upon the individual as well as the organization as a whole.
- Discuss the legal or philosophical basis for your claim (certain behaviors that one might deem to be unethical may not be “illegal.”)
- What steps could be taken to prevent the occurrence of such unethical behavior in a school system
