Week 2 Application Assignment: Group Stages
Overview
This week, you examined the various stages of group as well as the dynamics associated with each stage. Assignment 2 will help you to clarify and illustrate your understanding of your own personal approach as a group leader and the importance of understanding potential challenges in group work.
Essay Questions for Week 2
Create one to three paragraphs for each of the essay questions below.
1. Identify and explain three useful procedures for the beginning stage of a group.
2. What are the seven steps in the group forming stage? Choose one step and discuss why it is crucial to this stage.
3. Name and discuss one potential “people problem” and one potential procedural issue that may occur in the forming stage of a group.
Conclude by reflecting on the following question in 1-3 paragraphs.
- Identify some aspect of yourself that you have recently discovered about yourself that had previously been “hidden from your view.” Using Lufi’s Johari Window describe how you came to be aware of this aspect of yourself.
This
assignment will count toward your final grade and is worth 75 points.

Public Administration & Budgeting
“The Future of Public Administration” Please respond to the following.
· Imagine that you are Woodrow Wilson visiting the White House today. Compose a list of five (5) flaws that Wilson might identify, based on his perception of a so-called “good” public administration. Debate whether your listed flaws are likely real, perceived, or relative to the current social and cultural climate. Provide a rationale for your response.
· Interpret the overall manner in which the current economic climate might dictate the major themes of public sector management going forward. Provide a rationale for your response.
“Funding for Education” Please respond to the following:
· Evaluate the disparity of Alabama’s budget allocation for education and property tax to the various localities. Based on your assessment, challenge or defend the equity of the system across the various localities.
· Identify and explain your choices for reductions and increases. Discuss at least two lessons you learned about the challenge of balancing the federal budget.
“General Taxes” Please respond to the following:
Review the following scenario and then analyze the impact of tax holidays on the budget.
Scenario: Several states have declared sales tax holidays for which the state does not collect sales tax on selected items for those day or days. In most instances, the holiday has applied to purchases of clothing and the period has been a week to 10 days in August. The primary reason is to provide a “back-to-school” discount as families get ready for the upcoming year; however, in recent years, some states have proposed or enacted holidays for hurricane survival supplies, gasoline, Energy Star appliances, and guns and ammunition.
· You are the State Economic Director. Analyze the economic impact of tax holidays of up to 10 days in your state.
Annotated Bibliography
This step serves as an opportunity for students to practice (or learn how to conduct) academic research as well as to demonstrate your critical analysis of the topic you are exploring in your final film project using women’s studies concepts and theories in clear, competent writing ability.
This is an individual assignment even if you are working on a group or duo project.
You will find 3 academic journal article sources that are DIRECTLY connected to film. One of your sources can be a course reading. If you want to use 1 scholarly book, you must first get permission from me before the assignment is due. You may NOT use newspaper, news magazine, non-peer-reviewed articles, or Wikipedia as one of your 3 sources. The Annotated Bibliography provides an opportunity for the student to conduct the library research early enough to find the best sources and for instructor to provide feedback on sources and the working thesis statement before the final paper or Auteur Statement is written.
