Ec Gravity Model
Ec Gravity ModelIntroduction
The Ec Model is one model that has been used by different people in different areas of trade as a means through which they analyze various issues in trade. The model has a very great impact on national borders and the reason for this is the fact that it majorly deals with supply chain between different areas. The reason as to why the United and States and Canada is a point of interest when dealing with this is the fact that these two countries are neighboring and that the United States is a major country in trade relations as compared to other countries.
Supply Chain Management is a practice that incorporates various management traits in an effort to identify and interconnect the processes involved in the provision of goods and at times services. The chain flows from the initial generator of the raw materials to the final person to benefit from the product, that is, the customer. In any business practice, risks are some of the most important aspects to recognize and the management of these threats helps in making the flow of work better and that of the products faster and thus the importance of carrying out research on how to best manage them. The research identifies three aspects of risk management ought to receive a high amount of attention. One of these is risk identification the other aspect to consider is that of risk assessment and then there is risk management.
Problem Statement
Occurrence of risks is one of the leading causes of business failure over the past few years. This is happens because of the poor management of the risks by the responsible teams. Managing risk in supply chain management is very vital for the success of any company from the fact that in the unfortunate case of one of the risks occurring, all levels of the supply chain are affected, regardless of the point at which the product was during the risk occurrence (Conroe 63). It is thus the duty of every player in the chain to ensure that recognition and evaluation of all risks takes place in an effort to put into place the important strategies to evade the risk. The research aims at showing the different levels of a supply chain and indulge deeply in the risks that each of the level managers go through. Moreover, there ought to be the identification of the two key classes of supply chain risks for the purpose of risk assessment.
I chose management of risks in supply chain because I have had various experiences where companies languish from the amount of ignorance portrayed by their administration. An example of this is the BP case where there was the loss of a lot of the company’s credit from the oil spill that happened having the company in a recession for a few months. The ignorance is mostly in terms of recognizing the source of the risks. Many are cases when companies fail due to the fact that the management thinks that the problem is a minor one and does not have much weight. However, I seek to change this notion in an effort to make people understand that each part of the chain has a role to play in either the success or the failure of the commodity they seek to establish. It all depends on the type of risk management.
The issue at hand has had people always take risk management classes in an effort to solve the various arising matters that may have the company in a position to have a risk occurring. Research has shown that companies that do not take the steps end up regretting and consequently having a poor reputation due to customer dissatisfaction. Gaps in the research are in that it has been impossible to find cases that show immediate resolution of a risk taking place unlike the many present cases of risk occurrence.
Risk Identification and Analysis
Over the years, supply chain management has had its fair share of changes providing the need of every business to stay keen on its goals in this highly competitive 21st century. The study shows how the external and internal risks are vital for identification in any company seeking to succeed. This is due to fact that risks not only present themselves from outside an organization but also from the interior. The research portrays deeply the various risks that a company has from the outside, which are the demand of the products, the environmental risks that the products have, the physical issues and the supply issues.
Internal risks are other factors that the research portrays for the precise recognition of all the risks involved. This brings to attention the fact that many of the contemporary business people tend to ignore the fact that interior risks are more dangerous than exterior ones and thus this acts as a major cause of failure. Identification of the various internal practices that a company takes is important, and the review and scrutiny of each is vital in that it acknowledges internal risks associated with the planning of the product flow from the producer, control and mitigation that may pose as negligible but very crucial.
Risk Assessment
After clear identification of the various existing risks, the following step is the risk assessment stage. There are two major types of risk assessment, and these include the quantitative and the qualitative risk management procedures. Indulgence in these key properties is very important in Supply Chain Risk Management research. Both of the procedures have their importance and exclusion of any of them might have excessive repercussions on a company. This is based on the fact that each one of them has its major points that work towards achieving a fully functioning risk assessment process.
Quantitative risk management is the type of management whereby the manager or the responsible personnel identifies various aspects of the risk through calculations and the use of diagrams to assist in the process of resolution. The research gets deep into this type of management with the use of various examples and analysis charts for further understanding of risk management. The study also focuses on the qualitative aspect of risk management that involves the review of the various theoretical notions that often bring about the occurrence of risks and consequently try to analyze an example of a company that undergoes this with its provided supply chain.
The study also seeks to identify the given five major steps involved in the risk assessment process. This is because for the success of any given policy in an institution, the management team of the company has to ensure that it is free from any previous risk, thus ensuring a smooth flow of workload. The first step that a company should take towards risk assessment is identifying the hazard. In risk identification mentioned earlier, a general understanding of the risk is performed; however, the risk assessment stage breaks down the hazard further through Hazard Identification.
After a deeper exploration of the hazard, the paper discusses the second step, which involves the understanding of the various people that are directly involved with the risk and thus in the way of trouble. The third step towards quality risk assessment involves evaluation of the particular risks and understanding of the precautions that the people at various stages of the chain or the company as a whole should take. The paper introduces the forth step of risk assessment, which involves the recording of the various findings that the initial three steps brought to attention. This step is carried out with the use of tables from the example given previously. The final step that the paper covers is the review of the assessment done and updating various stages of the assessment that the company may find to require changing.
Risk Management
The study seeks to explain the concept of risk management fully in this last part of the triangle that forms basic Risk Management in the Supply Chain. For effective risk management, it is important to comprehend the six major principles of risk management. Understanding these principles is important in that it places the company evaluating the risks at a higher point in terms of chances of successful risk elimination. The study explores the principles deeply and analysis each of them in a rather extended manner.
Highlighting the various principles in risk management, there is the first one that states that risk management is important for the creation and the protection of value (Marks, 2011). The second principle recognizes risk management as a fundamental part of the activities that take place in an organization. There is the principle that states that risk management of all stages of the supply chain is an influential aspect of the decision making process in any successful organization. Another principle that the paper seeks to analyze is one stating that risk management is integral for the resolution of uncertainty issues with regard to the goals of an organization. Understanding that risk management is dynamic and interactive depending on the stage of the chain also comes in as a principle that the research indulges in explaining.
Risk communication and business continuity are two major aspects considered important in the process of risk management. The paper seeks to identify the relation between these two and other sub-branches of risk management while giving clear examples in an effort to comprehend the concepts further. Having a standard company to analyze is important in that it assists in showing the reality of the matter at hand that can act as a source of inspiration and other companies can understand the importance of risk management.
Literature Review
One of the most popular cases to relate to when discussing the issue of supply chain management is that of Nokia and Ericsson. It is normal for large mobile companies to outsource some of their departments in an effort to get quality products. Mobile phone chips are some of the major components in a device and most of the contemporary mobile phones do not operate as efficiently as with that chip installed. It is thus important to go through the case study involving these two mobile network providers in an effort to gain understanding of the efficiency of supply chain management.
Both Nokia and Ericsson have outsourced the production of chips in an effort to have quality products that is effective as a way to attract more customers. The companies have Philips as their outsourced company responsible for the manufacture of chips for the mobile phones. Ten years ago, an explosive fire attacked the company’s headquarters razing all the machines responsible for the creation of the chips. This was a major setback as it affected the manufacture of effective phones by the two companies.
The manner in which the two companies, Nokia and Ericsson, reacted to the unexpected shortage of supply is a force to reckon with as it assists one understand the measures to take in case of a cut in the supply chain. Nokia reacted by re-engineering its phones in a manner that they could accept other foreign chips from Canada in an effort to bridge the gap created and continue with customer satisfaction. This worked effectively in that the customers continued using Nokia products and there was not any decline in sales. This step has had investors acknowledge the management of the company and thus the widespread positive reputation.
On the other hand, Ericsson did not react as rapidly as Nokia did. The company sort to remain calm and not seek assistance from other companies. This was not an effective plan as it slowed down the progress of the organization and the sales reduced significantly. The credibility of the company was in question from then because the quality of products that it offered did not reach up to the expectations of the clients. It is important to note that at the time of the disaster, the company was going through changes in the management and the new top directors had the blame on the issues at hand.
The company’s initial directors had decided to lay low and not seek external help in terms of chip production. After the entrance of new directors and the notion that they had something to do with the changes in product quality, they sought to improve the production by looking for other suppliers for the chips. However, the company did not have enough resources and money to have other providers. Moreover, the shareholders of the company did not support the idea and insisted that they wait for Philips to rebuild their company and thus have supply back in progress.
This was not a wise decision as there was a gap in the supply chain for a couple of months as Philips continued re-establishing itself. This led to decreased sales as Ericsson reduced the number of phones that it produced in an effort to have quality products. This is from the fact that mass production of products that were not of standard would lead to decreased customer trustworthiness. Research has shown that a company that is of proper reputation as Ericsson does not lose a lot of credit once it produces in low amounts. This is from the fact that decreased production has faithful customers seeking the products despite the quality. This however did not work as efficiently for Ericsson as the reduced sales had people think that the company had become bankrupt consequently having reduced customers.
The case above has assisted in understanding the effect that the management of the supply chain has on a product and the customers in general. Managing the supply chain and having a backup plan just in case the given plan does not go as expected is an imperative task to take. This is shown by the manner in which Nokia maintained its sales from risk management and customers unlike Ericsson that did not take any action.
Methodology
The manner went around in carrying out research in this field involves paying attention to the progress that the various companies have had over the past ten years. This is important in that one is able to identify the changes that the company has experienced after the risk unfortunately gets to it. Moreover, comparing the strides that the company has taken in the various sectors against other companies has assisted in that there is an understanding of the steps that one should take or not with regard to risk management in the supply chain.
Conclusion
With the model, all these supply chain issues are recovered as the model has the ability to identify the specific number of people in a certain area and thus the various companies have the ability to identify the specific amount of workers to a specific area and thus understand the functions of the various middle men and in the process eliminate these risks. United States and Canada have had business relations for a very long time and the use of this model by the various companies across their boarders assures them of improved business relations.

Feminism Criticism on Hamlet
Hamlet by Shakespeare has often been viewed as a novel that portrayed prejudice towards women. This is not new as most novels that were written towards this period portrayed prejudice on women as the society was largely patriarchal. Hamlet is among the most read plays by Shakespeare that looks into revenge and how the characters in the play go through grief but are also able to stay loyal. Two main characters in the play are Hamlet and Laertes. From these amazing masterpieces of literature, we see Shakespeare bringing upon calamity after calamity to the protagonist Hamlet. This paper will analyze Hamlet from a feminist perspective and thus understand the status of women as portrayed in the novel Hamlet.
Ophelia and Gertrude who are the main women characters are characters that do not have much to say about what goes on in their life. Gertrude is character that is often in the middle of conflicts however she does not seem to take part in any of it. She seems however quite interested in defusing any conflict around her at every chance she gets. From the text we can see that Ophelia does not have female tradition because there is absence of women in history who can set precedence for her. She does not have a reliable female influence in her life, this role traditionally belonged to a mother (Dane, pg. 405-23). There is no mention of a mother or any other woman in her life just the men, the father and brother.
Gertrude and Ophelia who are the female characters are presented as feeble. The story majorly revolves around the men and these two characters play passive roles. Hamlet story can be complete without Ophelia but Ophelia on the other hand does not have a story about Hamlet. The plot to her story is centered around the men in her life and thus she does not have a voice of her own. Her role depicts patriarchy during this time as most women were heavily dependent on their husband or fathers or just the men in their life. She only seems to talk when talked to and does not have input on any matters as this is the role of Hamlet the man interested in romantic relationship with her. Aside from Hamlet, Plotinus is also abusive towards Ophelia and seems to want to control and dominate her life decisions (Neely. Pg. 330-39). His character shows the rot on Denmark in terms of how they treated women and the position that the women held in society. Ophelia is used by Laertes and Polonius to further their ambitions and goals and in doing so they did not pay attention to what she was feeling or what she wanted. Women seem to be treated as a second had citizens as the society is largely patriarchal.
Gertrude who is the Queen is not brought out in a positive manner. Her actions are not associated with royalty or rather she does not act as a king. Gertrude takes part in incest with Claudius who is Hamlet’s mother. Family members are not allowed to marry each other and the fact that a queen marries the brother to his former husband shows the depth of moral decay in Denmark (Sharmin, pg. 25-32). In Act 3 scene 4 hamlet tells his mother that she was living “In the rank sweat of an enseamed bed, / Stewed in corruption, honeying and making love / Over the nasty sty.” (Shakespeare, 3.4 100-104) Her mother’s action leads to Hamlet’s faith in women being destroyed and we can see him becoming ambivalent towards Ophelia. Throughout the play, Gertrude does not seem to have remorse, only in act III does she portray guilt as she tries to pray but she is still not able to put her heart into it.
Ophelia is not able to change her fate because of her limited options that she dies. She is the daughter of Polonius thus her love for Hamlet creates a friction with his father as his father wanted to use her daughter as a spy on Hamlet. The friction which is caused by the men created a tragedy in her life. Her love for Hamlet is pure but Hamlet look down on her as he does not believe that women could be good and pure judging from her mother’s action. We can see hamlet being cruel to Ophelia for example in Act III, Hamlet is cruel to Ophelia because he knows that Claudius and Polonius are watching him and so he acts out to make them think that he really is becoming crazy and that he is made at Ophelia. He accuses Ophelia and women of contributing to dishonesty as women painted their face to appear beautiful than they were. All the accusations he makes of Ophelia are not true, and Ophelia is not innocent of them but suffers the mistreatment either way (Peterson, pg. 255-62).
There is subordination and men have total control of the women and their actions. In Act III when there was the confrontation between Ophelia and Hamlet was about to happen, King Claudius commands Gertrude to leave and accuses her of wanting to eaves drop on the conversation, and Gertrude’s obeys and leaves. What is ironical is that Claudius and Polonius do exactly what they were accusing Gertrude as they hide and begin eaves dropping on the conversation. Ophelia also while having a conversation with her father we can see the subordination as she states ““I do not know, my lord, what I should think” (Shakespeare, 23). She is conversing with her father but refers to him as her lord.
There is the sexual objectification of the female characters in Hamlet. Ophelia is objectified as we see the men in her life paying attention to her sexuality as they have placed a substantial value on her virginity and not her as a person. Laertes compares having of premarital sex to a flower before the buds are opened and uses the word “canker”. The use of a flower to describe Ophelia in itself is objectification and insinuates that if she has premarital sex then she loses value just as the flower. She is also sexually harassed as in the confrontation with Hamlet, Hamlet asks her to pay attention to “nunnery” which is a brothel instead and also tells her that if she had a husband she would likely cheat on him. Hamlet does not seem to harass her because of her personality but only sexually through verbal conversations (Olivas, pg. 11-42 ). Gertrude is also objectified with her sexual appeal being central in the novel. This is seen when she gets married hastily to Claudius after her father’s death. Shakespeare is quick to point out that Gertrude barely mourned the death of her husband before remarrying the king’s brother
In conclusion women in hamlet are subject to a patriarchal condescending society. They do not seem to have a voice of their own even their characters are under developed. They suffer abuse from the men in their life and are required to completely obey what the men in their life want and it is this that resulted in Ophelia’s madness leading to her death. They are seen as sexual objects and are subjected to objectification. Through a feminism perspective one can see the position of women in Denmark and the vast evidence shows women being treated as second class citizens without being given any respect. Women have been brought out as weak and submissive characters.

Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Sports
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the way of simulating human intelligence processes by use of machines such as computer systems. Examples of AI applications include machine vision, speech recognition, expert systems, and Natural Language Processing (NLP). Generally, artificial intelligence functions through ingesting massive labeled training data, employing it for patterns and correlations, and using the patterns to predict future states (Fialho, Aline, and João 131). Sociotechnical systems incorporate requirements ranging from personal, software, community, and hardware aspects. These systems apply an understanding of the rights, roles, and social structures to inform system designs involving technology and communities of people (Galily 47). Examples of sociotechnical systems include blogs, emails, and social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. The Discovery of artificial intelligence and sociotechnical systems has significantly impacted sports today. This essay discusses how artificial intelligence and sociotechnical system have impacted sports.
To begin with, the development of artificial intelligence and sociotechnical systems has helped predict player injury occurrences. Research reveals that injuries adversely affect performance in sports, where injuries of the main players cost teams a lot of money which is spent on treatment, thus leading to reduced revenue (Kakavas et al. 63). Injuries also make a difference between success and failure during sports. Thus, sports injuries’ prevention, management, and diagnosis are important in both amateur and professional sports. Artificial intelligence has helped sports teams and coaches predict future injuries through predicting numerous dynamic systems, such as political forecasting, weather, and projecting traffic fatalities. Consequently, this aids in formulating prevention and management strategies. The diagnostic and predictive capabilities facilitated by AI also make it possible for managers and coaches to maintain their player’s fitness, health, and safety. In essence, players’ mental and physical issues get diagnosed and treated early enough.
Secondly, the development of artificial intelligence and sociotechnical systems has led to improved Football Teaching and Training (FTT) through the integrated intelligent FTT system. Li et al. reveal that football players’ integrated intelligent FTT system helps manage players’ personal information and the teaching information of the coach in an informative and intelligent way (1). Usually, the data that is generated during the training and exercise process, including the score settlement, exercise time, and the number of exercises, are stored and then uploaded to the server where scientific analysis is performed, and results are used to provide training prescription based on player’s characteristics (Li et al. 1). The authors further add that intelligent FTT system assists in improving players’ enthusiasm in learning and training. On the same note, Lv, Xiangzhi, and Ang Jiang (1) urge that the application of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in future sports raining is advantageous in that it improves players’ enthusiasm for exercise.
Furthermore, the emergence of technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence have tremendously altered people’s interactions. Machines learn and showcase human traits such as behavior hence impacting sports in game-changing ways. For example, artificial intelligence has transformed coaching and training. In sports, AI has made it possible for analysts and coaches to point out players’ areas of improvement and player strengths and predict their progress over time (Nadikattu 5983). Additionally, coaches can use metrics to discover weaknesses and compare stats in executing plays. Coaches have been relying on data to boost player performance. AI referees are another emerging aspect of sports. They have been using big data to make split decisions in the field. They also use sports analytics to determine what the next big thing is. Meanwhile, the use of Video Assistant Technology (VAR) helps coaches make precise judgments about big decisions such as free kicks, red cards, and penalties.
Lastly, sports events’ support services such as broadcasting, betting industry, and spectator experience have benefitted largely from the development of artificial intelligence and sociotechnical systems (Hammes et al. 2). For instance, in betting, AI and sociotechnical systems help in the provision of real-time information which is vital for betting. AI is capable of providing minute information for every gameplay, thus, facilitating the betting procedure. Also, AI facilitates better predictions providing betters with the best experience. On the other hand, AI and sociotechnical systems have led to the introduction of new broadcasting technologies which intend to increase convey information to viewers automatically, quickly, and accurately.
Overall, (AI) and sociotechnical systems have significantly impacted sports today. The development of AI and sociotechnical systems assists in predicting players’ injuries, which helps in injury prevention and management. It has also led to improved FTT and impacted people’s interactions. Today, coaches and players can interact more, and through the help of AI, coaches can identify players’ areas of improvement and strengths and predict their progress over time. Furthermore, AI transforms the people treat and view player safety. AI provides diagnostic and predictive capabilities making it possible for managers and coaches to maintain their player’s fitness. VAR technology also assists referees in making precise judgments such as penalties, free kicks, and red cards. The development of AI and sociotechnical systems has also benefitted the sports events’ support services such as broadcasting.
