How fatherless homes affect the development of children.
Research has shown that the number of fatherless children across the United States continues to rise as the number of divorces rises and teen births continues to increase. The trend has led to continued questioning of the potential effects of the trend where most children are being brought up by single mothers without any father figure in their lives. There has been much scholarly research that has been conducted on the topic with the main aim being to identify the results of this trend across the American families. In general, research suggests that the absence of a father figure in children’s lives is likely to affect negatively their development and increases the chances of such teens engaging in social evils such as drug abuse, crime, and end up in poverty. A further analysis of the research on the topic, researchers agree that the effects are likely to be more severe for boy children who are brought up in the absence of their fathers.
A scholarly article from the National Center for Father focuses on the effects of lack of a father figure in every child’s development. The National Center for Father is registered as a not for profit organization under article 501 (c) (3) and it was founded in the year 1990 with the aim of addressing the socio-economic issues that are related to fatherlessness across the United States of America. The organization’s objective is to ‘have an actively engaged father or father figure in the life of every child’. The organization over the years has been able to engage different fathers and engaging the various stakeholders who have interest in statistics on fatherless children and potential effects associated with the situation. Fathers get empowered by the organization on how they can become great fathers and ensure their presence shapes the development of their children in the right direction.
A research by the Marriage and Religion Research Institute in the United States sought to find out the effects of fatherlessness on the development of American Children. The research by the institute found out that about a third of children across the United States lives a fatherless life and further explained that such children suffered from emotional, physical, social, intellectual and economic deprivation in the lives due to lack of a father figure. The research by Marriage and Religion Institute (MARRI) focused on various aspects of child development such as sexual practice, deviant behavior, and education and generally concluded that children from fatherless families experience the majority of the social evils in the society.
On the effects of lack on a father figure in the development of a child’s sexual behavior, the research showed that girls who grew without a father figure are eight times more likely to have a teen pregnancy compared to those who grow with their father figure around them. The research also found out that when there is a father in the lives of African-American girls, 42 % of them are likely not to engage in premarital sex before turning 18 years. On the boy child, the research found out that boys who grow with close company of their fathers have good attitudes towards intimacy and are more likely to have aspirations for their marriage live compared to those who grow fatherless. The finding from the research clearly shows that the presence of a father figures in the lives of children, both male and females is important for their sexual development.
The research by MARRI focused on the effects of children growing fatherless on their education. The research focused on how lack of a father figure could negatively or positively affect a child’s school performance. The researchers found out that lack of a father in a child’s life could decrease the educational performance of a child. Fatherless children are more likely to drop out of school compared to those with a father figure with the research showing that 71% of school dropouts were from students without a father figure in their lives. From the research’s findings, it is evident that a child’s education suffers negatively when there is no father figure and the need for a father figure in every child’s life. However critics of this finding argue that, the research did not reveal why the absence of a father figure led to decreased school performance and increased the likelihood of a school dropout. Those who support the finding argue that mothers are less likely to discipline their children and ensure they focus on their education while fathers more often focusing on ensuring children get educated.
The research finally focused on the effects of fatherlessness in a children general behavior. The research shows that the probability of a child developing a deviant behavior when they lack a father figure in their lives is higher when contrasted with those with a father. When a child, a boy or a child has a father in their lives, they grow with an acceptable behavior and end up as compassionate and responsible adults eventually. A father figure plays a key role in modifying the behavior of boys and girls while those who are fatherless are likely to show delayed gratification, poor management of their anger, sexual gratification attitude and often showed a weaker sense of right from the wrongs.
The statistics from the U.S. state department of Health and Human services concluded that, ‘Fatherless children are at a dramatically greater risk of drug and alcohol abuse.’ The conclusion was based on the analysis of data on child drug abuse from different states and this points towards a worrying trend. The conclusions resurfaces the argument of how absentee fathers should be dealt with as the effects of such absenteeism has proven to be grave and can lead to deviant behavior in children.
A research has been done how children without a father figure in their lives deal with internal and external behavior issues. A research on 1,977 children aged between 3years and 15 years indicated that children who lived in families with a father and mother experience fewer behavior issues compared to those raised by single mums. This research shows the importance of a father figure in helping a child manage their behavior and is less likely to pick up deviant behavior.
From the research above, it is evident that children who grow without a father figure are likely to experience emotional, physical, psychological, social and economic disadvantages. The findings of the research indicate theta children are likely to develop wholesomely when they have a father or a father figure in their lives. Fathers can be a source of love, compassionate, and mentor in helping kids achieve their goals in life. Research has shown that many teens that grow without a father figure end up dropping out of school developing deviant behavior and do not appreciate the role of marriage in general. From my own experience with friends who I have seen grow without a father figure, I believe that teens growing without the guidance of a father figure can lead to deviant behavior in children. Mothers are often softer to their children and reluctant to correct them when they go wrong compared to fathers who are willing to make their opinions known without any hesitation. Until one understands the role of a father figure in child development, they are likely to underestimate it.

How Fashion Can Boost One’s Self-Esteem
Introduction
Without a doubt, being fashionable and trendy has the potential to transform a person’s self-perception. Dressing fashionably not only increases a person’s confidence but also shows how other people perceive you. According to recent studies, one can tell a lot concerning a person’s status, income and personality by simply looking at their shoes. Having a profound sense of fashion is a subtle way of communicating one’s social life without necessarily talking to the people they meet. An external outlook is often an opportunity to get away with misconceptions and assumptions. If one wears a tie and suit, they want to feel formal and act corporate, and as a result, people will always regard them and respond to them more seriously. Therefore, it is imperative for people to stay well-groomed, smell classy and nice, and stay updated with style. This is not to say there is anything wrong with dressing laid back. The point is whether one decides to dress down or dress up, they should always dress the way they want to be addressed. The clothes we wear affect how we perceive ourselves; spending large amounts of money on the latest trends will boost self-esteem and build confidence.
Dressing Comfortably but Trendy
One of the ways to boost one’s self-esteem and confidence is to dress comfortably. Staying trendy and being content in the new fashion. It is important that one dress in a manner that makes them feel comfortable and this means that one should not have to step out of their comfort zone to stay trendy (Le, 34). In essence, style and beauty should always meet functionality. It is important to note that functionality does not necessarily imply coziness. The majority of people tend to confuse between comfort and style. They struggle to choose one over the other. The secret to this is selecting apparel and accessories that best suit the individual. The clothes should be trendy and comfortable. This helps an individual focus on the most important tasks of the day and boost confidence. This way, a person does not have to worry about how they look, and they can better concentrate on their tasks for the day. However, if one wears an attire or pair of shoes that makes sitting or walking seem like a chore, it makes a person uncomfortable and can limit their capacity to complete their tasks for the day. Finding clothes that fit is also critical in boosting self-esteem. One should take the time to assess the clothes and measure them before purchasing them. If they do not fit, one can always have a tailor alter them to your liking. Well-fitting apparel flatters a person’s figure and makes them feel in control and well put together.
Color of the Clothes
It is important to select the color of the apparel that one intends to wear beforehand. This is because the color that one wears often relates and speaks to their state of mind. Our emotions often reflect in the color of our outfits (McNeill, 26). For instance, wearing red attire is often an indication of confidence. Red makes an individual stand out in a crowd. Similarly, wearing a tank top to a meeting makes a person look less attractive while wearing green to a dinner date makes a person look funky. Such unsuitable colors are likely to leave a person low and uncertain. For a warm and breezy day, it would be advisable to go with denim and white. For a wedding in spring, one should choose pastel. Stripes and solids often do magic for a casual day. Whatever you do, ensure that you select a color that suits both you and the occasion perfectly.
Having a Signature Style
Additionally, another secret to boosting self-esteem and confidence is having a signature style. There are various ways people can use to identify with you. For instance, a pattern, hat, or look can be used to identify a person. This is called a signature style. Signature style is a unique symbol that speaks to a person’s style. It is important to have a trademark dressing style that stands out from everybody else’s. Choosing a signature style does not have to be complicated. It can be as simple as high-end pair of shoes, a classic watch, a perfume, a branded leather belt, or even a hat/cap. Your style should stand out from the rest effortlessly. The secret to choosing a signature style is going with classic pieces as opposed to trends. This is because classics tend to last long and remain classics, while trends only last for a short period. Worth noting, an effective signature style is comfortable and makes a person extra confident.
Before coming up with a personal style, one should try out various styles through mixing and matching outfits until they come up with a perfect look. Finding the correct personal style is a representation of one’s image. In identifying personal style, one does not have to follow the rules of fashion you can play around with outfits until you get one that makes you feel confident. When searching for a personal style, one should know what they like or dislike and pay close attention to the colors and brands they like (Lee, Yuri, and Jeong-Ju, 10). Additionally, one should pay attention to the texture and patterns they would like in their closet and the style that excites them most. This is the best stage to compare your likes and dislikes before concluding what you want to wear. Another secret to finding style is breaking conventions. One can even try having custom-made apparel rather than buying all clothes off the rack. Custom-made pieces add oomph to an individual’s personal style.
Formal Dress code
Having formal clothing is another way of showing increased self-esteem and confidence. Without a doubt, there is something about formal dress codes that warrants serious attention. Recent studies have found that dressing in formal clothing makes a person think more abstractly and creatively. Come to think of think, there is a reason why entrepreneurs, politicians, and world leaders dress in formal clothes most of the time. Dressing in a suit is an indication of professionalism. A suit shows that a person means business. In essence, it makes a person more confident about themselves. Formal attire also makes a person remain focused on their goal.
Conclusion
In closing, how a person dresses speaks a lot about their character. Without a doubt, fashion is a reflection of how a person thinks and their taste. Dressing well boosts a person’s confidence, while dressing poorly impacts negatively on their mood. Formal attire, for instance, shows professionalism. Some of the strategies that help boost confidence that people should embrace include dressing comfortably but trendy, having a signature style, dressing formally, and paying attention to the color of the apparel. Employing the above tactics about fashion help individuals to develop a personal style and stay empowered.

Exploration Of A Journal Article In Sociology
Exploration Of A Journal Article In Sociology
This article is a report of new research on the first social science policy architect Harry Alpert. This is because the article is basically a research that was conducted on Harry Alpert thus giving us information about the person. The article takes the universal format of research reports where there is an abstract in this case the summary, an introduction and the body of the research. We can tell that this is a report of a new research conducted since there is no reference is made from another source.in other words the article is purely about the social scientists, his life and his views. This is not a review of any existing work but an actual article about this social scientist.
The article is all about understanding Alpert in tow basic ways; first through the examination of the earlier development of his career and views.it talks of him being a great French scholar. He was among US social scientists though he was not known quite well. He played an important role in the developing U.S National science Foundation’s early efforts so as to provide funds for social sciences. The article also expresses his belief on the value that statistical work holds. This is thus the reason why he was not shy when it came to giving critics on certain tendencies even in the public domain (Pooley, &.Solovey, 2011).
Secondly the article highlights on Alpert’s complex involvement in particular tensions that existed in the mid-century US social science which were connected to major transformations in public patronage, national science policy and the unequal relations that are in existence between natural and social sciences. Apart from his work in the government the articles talks of how Alpert went on with the overlapping of careers as a scholar in the university. After his NSF career he became a senor scholar, an academic administrator holding a high level and a person who had gained a lot of respect as a voice within social science and U.S sociology. The article tells of how Alpert received very little attention despite a lot of his contributions in the field of social science.
The major findings in the article are about the role that Alpert played in the field of social science. These findings are supported by historical analysis which is clearly illustrated within the articles. For instance there is support from historical analysis of points about Alpert’s policy work. The support is also got from his articles that he was writing. These articles express his views on social science and give us an insight of his thoughts about the field.
This article fits perfectly in the field of sociology .this is because it is generally about the life and career of Aleprt a social scientists. The article highlights how Alpert contributed in the field of sociology through his involvement in the government and as a school administrator. Therefore, the article draws a lot of attention of how the social scientists developed in his career and the contribution he made in the field as an individual (Pooley, &.Solovey, 2011).
This is a scholarly article and it different from news paper articles and magazines. This article is longer compared to non-scholarly articles which are shorter. The article is written in jargons for the sociology field as opposed to non-scholarly articles which are written in non-technical language which is meant for the general audience. The article has a bibliography and footnotes while the non-scholarly articles do not have a bibliography. This article is similar to non-scholarly articles like newspapers and magazines in that the format that the report takes is same in all these articles.
