Steps to solving managerial problems

Creating innovative environment and employees:

The management should create an ingrained culture that is acceptable to the stakeholders, one that employees will find easy to adhere to, and the management will have an easy time to implement

The management should come up with a team whose function will be to enhance an open, innovative culture. The team should be tasked with pooling relevant skills together for purposes of boosting team effort.

Different perspectives of subcultures should be allowed within the different units of the department. A specific culture may favor innovation in a particular unit and not another.

The diversity, views and expertise of the different employees within the department should be recognized. This is because a heterogeneous group tends to have many alternatives to a problem. They tend to encourage one another to develop their innovative skills.

Setting clear goals and vision for the organization:

The goals and the vision should be articulated to all the stakeholders in the business.

The managers should have a reason and purpose for adopting the goal they adopt.

Set goals should be timely, realistic, attainable, achievable and manageable.

Management should make sure that every employee is conversant with the organizational goals and vision. While they achieve individual goals, the organization will realize its goals.

Vision should reflect what the leadership wants things to be (Wiley, 2006).

Goals should be written down so that they are not forgotten.

Achieving employee satisfaction:

Make the employees understand the financial state of the organization.

Recognize the skills of the different employees by ensuring remuneration matches their qualifications.

The management should talk to the top leadership concerning the issue of salaries.

Management should put the needs of employees first.

The manager should accept mistakes, respect the employees and consider their views and opinions.

Avenues for training and development should be availed to the employees.

Promoting teamwork and boosting organizational culture:

Team success and individual success should be recognized and rewarded.

The management should preach teamwork and demonstrate it.

Management should be ready to intervene to solve issues in teams (Wiley, 2006).

Every employee should know their specific role in the team.

The organization should be guided by some set beliefs and values that define their culture.

Management can come up with team-building activities like picnics to promote cohesion and bonding.

Statistics Journal Assignment

In the recent past, the value of statistics in my life has been enormous. Statistics affects almost every aspect of one’s life. It affects a person at individual level, family level, and even in matters outside the family. I have recently witnessed the effect of statistics in my operations at the home, office, and matters of the state. In this paper, I am discussing how statistics has affected me recently in my home (family), office and also in a matter of the state.

Having started a family a year ago, I have realized through financial miscalculations that statistics is very helpful in running a family. McPherson (2001) observes that the application of statistics starts from the home. Linking this proposition with personal experiences, I am a witness of the positive outcomes of well-applied statistics in the home. For the one year I have been heading my family; I have learnt to manage family finances well by applying statistics. Through statistics, I and my spouse prepare monthly budgets every month, alongside our annual targets. Even though this may seem as simple statistics, it has been very beneficial in ensuring we do not run broke at the middle of the month, and that we meet our annual and monthly targets. In addition, we have used statistics to choose a suitable method of family planning, to ensure that we lead a successful family. Since we are young in marriage, and we have future projections, we have greatly applied statistics to make our future goals. Statistics is thus very important in a family. The figure below shows the monthly family budget template we use.

Apart from the home, I also apply a lot of statistics in my small office business. I have applied the measures of central tendency, as well as statistical research results concerning the behavior of the buyers, and the trends in the market. According to McPherson (2001), successful businesspeople use make good use of statistics to read the trends in the market and respond appropriately. I am a witness that the application of statistics works perfectly for a business person. One can predict how customers are likely to buy, and thus one knows the right quantities to stock. The application of statistics has helped me minimize on inputs into the business as I focus on increasing the output.

On the other hand, the use of statistics by the government agencies and departments have affected my life either directly or indirectly. McPherson (2001) observes that the government uses statistics to formulate policies that see it raise a healthy population. Such statistics as weather forecasts help in disaster management and preparedness. In addition, political campaigns, the stock market, insurance and quality testing by the government rely on good application of statistics. Since such issues are direct concerns of the common citizen, they are pointers to the effect of statistics in my life.

In conclusion, the role of statistics in one’s life cannot be underestimated. A close examination of my life shows that I apply statistics at the home, the office and in other matters that concern my life. Similarly, the government applies statistics to ensure a healthy nation, in which I am a dependent. By that, statistics is very important in one’s life.

One of the Florida’s protected rights is imprisonment for debts. This right states that no person will be imprisoned for debts except in cases of fraud. The other is right to costs. It states that no person who has been charged with a crime will be required to pay costs before a judgment of conviction has been finalized. The other is the trial of jury. This right shall be secured to all and also should not be violated. The historical reasons for the Florida protections since 1968 have been to ensure that the rights of the people in this state remain inviolate (Pollock, 1982). They are supposed to protect the citizens of this state from exploitation. The government of this state enforces these rights, and those who goes against them faces the law. There has been no major controversy in these provisions except for the various amendments that have taken place over the years.

Mayor Brown’s pension reform plan outlines how he wanted the city pension system to be amended. He wanted to cap the annual benefits of the employees of Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at $99,999.00 from nothing. Instead of employees being able to retire after 20 years of service, he wanted to allow retirement after 27 years of service at any age. He also wanted the benefits accrual rate to be 1.67% for all years of service subject to a cap of 50% at 30 years of service (Bayer, 2012). He also wanted the employees of JSO to start their pension at age 60. He also wanted the final pay to be averaged for the last 60 months of service. He also wanted to raise the employees’ contributions to 14% contribution. His main justification for his proposal is that the plan would save $48 million dollars in taxpayer dollars if enacted. He also said that his plan would save $1.5 billion over 30 years.

St John’s River Water Management District is responsible for conducting the necessary research to improve the quality of this river’s water. The District has formed partnership over the years with local governments, other agencies, stakeholders and the public to come up with initiatives to restore the river (Ouyang, 2005). The investments by the District and its partners are the largest in the lower St. Johns River history. They include a citywide no net gain goal for septic tanks (Jacksonville/Duval County) and a program to improve access to the river. They also include an annual state of the river report and a research program to assess why the tributaries of this river are filling in with silt. The main objective of these partnerships is to ensure that there is a substantial reduction in pollution of this river.

In the state of Florida, all the elected officials are term-limited to serve for a maximum of 8 years. One argument supporting term limits is that it helps to curb bad leadership by limiting the number of years a leader can serve (Moncrief, Niemi, Powell, 2004). The other argument is that it gives a chance for other people to exercise leadership by limiting tyrannical rule. One argument against term limits is that it kills the political ambitions of good leaders by limiting their leadership period. The other is that term limits increase the possibility of corruption in the legislative process by interest groups trying to influence the new and inexperienced legislators.

The first major objective of Governor Rick Scotts was to help Floridians create lasting jobs in the private sector. The other objective was to keep the cost of living low for all the Floridians. The Other objective was to ensure that students receive a world-class education that would help them to drive forward the economy of Florida (Stringer, 2012). He accomplished these objectives by reducing property tax by $200 million for Florida’s families and small businesses and the elimination of business income tax. He also helped in the repeal of burdensome rules and regulations, eliminating of public schools’ tenure and a plan to pay effective teachers as professionals. He also helped in creating more than 87,000 jobs in the private sector. The objectives were among the essential components of his campaign manifesto that he accomplished while he was in office.
