Unwrapping the mystery of Flight 19

History is bedeviled with numerous mysteries, some of which border on myths. Of course, they are known as mysteries simply because they remain unresolved, or they have attracted differing opinions. For most of these mysteries, their explanations and subsequent explanations only end up increasing the mysteriousness surrounding them. In most cases, the complicated nature of these mysteries is blamed on the inadequacy of technology at their time of occurrence. However, it has never dawned on many people that unresolved mysteries may simply be works of nature. The simple fact that human beings have understood other planets such as Mars, Venus and Neptune blinds them to the fact that they have not understood their own planet earth fully. Unfortunately, when mysteries cannot be conclusively explained, it is always easy to blame supernatural forces. This is exactly the case for the disappearance of Flight 19.

Thesis statement: The disappearance of flight 19 was merely a work of nature.

Flight 19, the Lost Patrol or the Lost Squadron, as it is interchangeably known is arguably one of the most mysterious disappearances in the annals of history. It occurred on 5th of December 1945 when five enormous torpedo bombers disappeared in peacetime while flying on what was a routine exercise. It is worth noting that they were not flying in war zones or between distant islands or far-flung islands. They were flying over the Bermuda Triangle, the Crown of Florida. For hundreds of years, numerous boats and aircrafts have disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle (Myhre, 25). These mysterious vanishings have often been blamed on freak storms, pilot error, rogue waves, strong winds, water spouts, as well as methane bubbles from the bowels of the earth, which splits the enormous ships into two. However, these have never offered conclusive explanations for what befell Flight 19. The Squadron was being led by an experienced pilot called Lieutenant Charles Taylor. However, all the bombers lost radio contact with the fort soon after departure and the flights were veering off the course. When they were lost, it was only a matter of time before they ran on empty. Unfortunately, their wreckage has never been recovered up to this day (Myhre, 78). Could this have been a result of human error is there a certain force that revolves in the Bermuda triangle? This can only be explained as the work of nature, which human beings have not fully understood especially as pertaining to the forces that operate within the seas and other large water bodies (Myhre, 67).

First, it is worth noting that the flight did not involve one small aircraft like the Amelia Earhart that disappeared in the Pacific in 1938 or Glenn Miller that disappeared in 1944 over the English Channel. This is a disappearance that involved five enormous torpedos that were flying in times of peace. In addition, they were being guided by an experienced war veteran who had undoubtedly undertaken such missions before the fateful flight. In essence, it is highly unlikely that he was totally lost. It is also noteworthy that the planes were flying in a relatively fair weather off the eventful Florida East Coast over the Bahamas, which is an extremely crowded area (Kusche). This area offered numerous landmarks, yet, they somehow veered off course away from the Bahamas deep into the Atlantic without any sight of familiar landmarks (Kusche 89). The planes followed standard procedure and eventually flew west as they had sufficient time and fuel to get to the Florida base. It is surprising that all the five planes never returned. The planes broke every imaginable failsafe. Rather than making land, it is surprising that the experienced pilot made incorrigible calls to the radar and was unsure of the direction or course that the planes were flying (Kusche, 24). This is compounded by the fact that the compass of the planes had failed at that time, which led Lt. Taylor to believe that they were flying over the Gulf of Mexico thanks to the small island that the planes had flown over in the Florida Keys. Questions as to, why the compass of the five planes failed cannot be explained as resulting from human error (Demolay, 47). In addition, if the combat lieutenant were flying over Florida Keys, how could there have been no other islands in sight? How is it that he missed the Florida Peninsula if, in fact, he was flying over the Florida Keys? Note that the pilot was an experienced veteran who had, most likely, taken such flights before. This can only point at some natural force that totally disfigured the readings of the compass, to such an extent that even the experienced combat pilot could not tell the location of the planes’ flight. The distortion of his two compasses must have made him panic leading to the incoherent statements that he made (Bateman, 67).

Of course, there exists other theories or explanations that tend to lay the blame on the combat lieutenant. In fact, the initial navy report lamed Lt. Taylor for the disappearance of Flight 19 and went further to state that as much as he was an excellent officer and combat pilot with no problems whatsoever in the navy, he tended to fly inappropriately and got lost a number of times. On two occasions, he had to leave his planes in the Pacific from where he was rescued. However, this does not negate the fact that the disappearance was an act of nature (Bateman, 89). How could an experienced combat pilot, who had extensive knowledge on what to do in such circumstances, have been unable to apply the same knowledge in this case? If he had been lost several times before and even had the capacity to call for help appropriately, what made this case different? In addition, is it not surprising that the all the five enormous torpedo have never been recovered. This only points to a seismic force that that disabled the communication devices and compass of the five planes before sucking them to the bowels of the earth (Demolay, 56).

In conclusion, the vanishing of Flight 19 is one of the most ironical mysteries in the history of aviation. This is especially because the disappearance involved five powerful and large planes guided by an extremely experienced pilot. As much as there exists numerous explanations to this disappearance, the disaster can only be explained as a work of nature. This is especially because the compasses had been disoriented completely, which implies that the area had a certain force that did not align itself to the conventional compass readings. In addition, the fact that the wreckage five planes were never found can only point at their being sucked into the bowels of the sea by the same force. After all, other pilots who have flown in the same area had alluded to the existence of strange lights, which could point at some cosmic forces.

Unsuccessful Strategy of Netflix Company

Most strategies developed by corporates and businesses fail. Studies have proven that 90% of the strategies do not conceptualize to the expectations. A case study of Netflix Company shows that most business strategies fail. Below are reasons why Netflix strategy failed.

The Strategy

In 2011, Netflix announced a new pricing strategy for the business model. The package DVD-by-mail, and the streaming service to be split up in two brands (Qwickster and Netflix). The result was an increase in price by more than 60%. Due to the strategy, the company suffered a loss of almost one million customers within three months and a drop in stock price by $200.

How Management Failed

The strategy had a lot of flaws as careful considerations were taken into account. The management and the Board of Directors are greatly to blame for the fail of the strategy. Although the CEO made the pricing strategy, the board is accountable for the company strategy, decisions made and the performance of the company (Hill & Jones2007). The board failed to be responsible for their job that consequently led to the decline of the company.

Strategy’s Flaws?

The strategy had a lot of flaws that made it doomed to fail. Among them are wrong pricing strategies for stage of adoption. The company hiked prices when it only had 7% of the market share. Instead, the company should have come up with ways of increasing market share but they optimized the revenue (Keating 2012).

Lack of Empathy and Poor Communication

After the launch of the new strategy, the company never came out to defend its decision (Ireland, Hoskisson & Hitt, 2012). This caused outrage. The company should have communicated the value the new prices will bring but they never did. Instead, the company focused much on their interests (Ireland,Hoskisson &Hitt, 2012). Quality of the company’s content diminished mostly with the failed attempt to continue the contract with Starz entertainment that was the main source of their content.

Failure to Understand Customers

Netflix never understood what their customers wanted. The fact was that a large number was ready to pay the $10 per month even though they never used the service (Keating 2012). When price was hiked, customers became aware that they never even used the service. The company could have retained a lot of customers if they provided a DVD/streaming package with limited content a month.

Strategy Lacked Funds

The strategy did not require any funds to implement, but instead was to generate more revenue. It failed not because of lack funds but because it had a lot of flaws. There also were wrangles within the company where some employees were reported saying that they were unhappy with the leadership of Hastings, the then CEO of Netflix.

Recovering of the Business

Although the business is trying a comeback, it is facing a lot of challenges. Experts are worried that it may be headed to bankruptcy. The management has developed new strategies that include supplying content via website. Losses incurred are huge, ranging from low-priced stock to reduced customers. This is the cost Netflix had to pay for poor strategy.

Business Strategy should not Continue

Netflix abandoned the strategy in 2013 after experiencing great losses. A lot of customers had withdrawn and the stock had depreciated. The strategy would have been outdated due to the widespread of tablets and smartphones. New strategies have been developed to revive Netflix. The company is now resourcing content for their subscribers.

Unstoppable Movie review

“Unstoppable” is an American action thriller produced in 2010 and directed by Tony Scott and starring Chris pine as Will Colson and Denzel Washington as Frank Barnes. It is about a story on a runaway train that is unable to stop no matter the spirited effort put by the two aforementioned men to stop it. However, Colson and Barnes’s efforts come to yield fruit as the duo finally manages to stop the train after a long struggle. In the movie, Scott manages to demonstrate how dangerous the monstrous trains are. One is able to see how disastrous these trains would be even before the disaster itself happens. For instance, the train had shipment of toxic chemicals headed straight towards children, schools, animals among other things. The school excursion train narrowly escapes a head on collision with the runaway train. Two of the train’s tank cars contain molten phenol that is a dangerous hazardous material when blown up hence Connie’s panic as she seeks police help in manning the railway crossing. The locomotive brakes failed to function following a mistake done by Dewey, one of the holsters to connect the air hose before parking the train on the track even after being reminded by his partner.

Scott utilizes suspense from start to the end of the movie as no one can predict the outcome thereby making the movie very interesting to watch. The train is traveling at a speed of about 76km/k for more than two hours and the attempts to derail it fails. The police on the other hand hit the fuel cab instead of shooting the fuel releasing valve therefore unable to stop the train. These in addition to the inexperience of Colson as a conductor as well as the mistakes done by the holsters further diminishes viewers’ hopes on the possible success by the concerned parties to stop the monstrous train. However, this is finally achieved as the second train is coupled with locomotive and the crew manages to shut down the train having slowed down. Consequently, a looming disaster is avoided in the densely populated area.

David Patch, a Kirk Baird blade staff writer demonstrates the poor execution of the movie which claims to be inspired by true events. David argues that Unstoppable movie is a train wreck of a movie that is highly exaggerated and dramatized to meet the taste of the audience. He claims that the potential damage of the phenol is highly exaggerated and that the free dissemination of information concerning the names of employees as well as the runaway cause to the media is incredible. Furthermore, David asserts that the Scott thriller is very predictable hence mildly amusing.

Skyline Movie review

Skyline is a 2010 movie produced and directed by Colin Strause, Greg Strause and starring Eric Balfour, Scottie Thompson, Birttany Daniel, and Crystal Reed. It is a science fiction movie that is characterized by scary episodes. A bunch of partying individuals gather in Los Angeles to celebrate the birthday of Terry, Jarrod’s friend only to wake up and counter horrible situation the next morning The movie is about an alien invasion as monsters attack on a grand scale thereby threatening to swallow human beings using their tentacles. Chaos is created as the extra-terrestrial lights descend upon the earth surface in Los Angeles. The tentacles of the monstrous machine are able to access all hiding places and swallow the human beings. The screaming and running are therefore evident in the movie. The visuals are both plentiful as well as very cool and therefore help in saving for the overuse of cheesy slo-mo by the brothers. Skyline is an action packed movie of human destruction characterized by popcorn munching sci-fi flick of apocalyptic doom. Jarrod acting as HYPERLINK “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Balfour” o “Eric Balfour” Eric Balfour and Elaine ( HYPERLINK “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottie_Thompson” o “Scottie Thompson” Scottie Thompson) have gone to HYPERLINK “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles” o “Los Angeles” Los Angeles for Terry’s ( HYPERLINK “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Faison” o “Donald Faison” Donald Faison) birthday party. They celebrate all night long before the attack occurs early morning of the next day. The attack is so massive that the rescue helicopters are brought down and all the safety places are invaded.

Michael praises the movie as directed by the Strauss brothers. He argues that Skyline movie is a highly creative and imaginative movie produced by the Strauss brothers and rates it at seven out of ten. He posits that the movie has a strong cast, an original story as well as an interesting twist ending that is hardly found in the Hollywood movies.

According to otownrog, the skyline movie is a kind of monster movie that has demonstrated grand failure. To begin with, it neither has an urgency nor close-contact immediacy to it. The movie begins with a romantic episode where the larger group attends Terry’s birthday in Los Angeles before it shrinks to a quartet, adding a couple of people and losing others in the process due to an invasion by the aliens. People do not seem to care the loss of others and don’t reason their way out of this dilemma. In movies where one is dealing with the unfathomable, the neck-up style of acting usually suited for TV is not effective. Furthermore, the characters are simply bystanders and not actors as they observe the battle between the predators and the Stealth fighter bombers unravel. Steve Anderson describes Skyline as patently unsatisfying movie as it demonstrates how disjointed life is.
