Discuss who the United States trades with and does not trade with and why?

America trades with any nations that it has not endorsed its economic sanctions and embargoes. Some of the major trading partners of the unites states include the following nations: Canada,Mexico,China,India,Switzerland,Germany,Japan South Korea, United Kingdom, France Brazil, Saudi Arabia,France,Italy,Netherlands,Taiwan and Venezuela.

The U.S does not trade with certain nations. This is a result of the implementation of economic sanctions to those countries. These countries include: Burma since 1997, Syria since 1986, Sudan since 2002, Iran since 1979, Cuba since 1962, North Korea since 1950 and Libya since 2011. The States has overtime placed immense trade sanctions on Burma. This is as because of the military outbreak in 1988 and also the refusal by the military regime to honor the results of the elections which took place in 1990.

The States gains the most significant position in the world in relation to international trade. Overtime, it has been the most leading in importation of goods not withstanding it being among the top three exporters of the world. Being a major consumer of products in the world, America enjoys advanced leverage as opposed to many other nations. This is because it is leading consumer hosting the highest number of companies in the world. This has made many businesses in the world to make tireless efforts and advancements so as to gain a market share in the U.S.

The embargo of the U.S against the state of Cuba has been as a result of economic, commercial and financial related sanctions impose to the state in 1960. The trade embargoes were initiated when the country of Cuba nationalized the property of the citizens of the U.S and their corporations (Saul, 2009). The embargoes have been codified to a law to maintain firm sanctions against Cuba provided the government of Cuba still holds not giving space and room for democracy and respect for existence of human rights.

The sanctions against Iran by the States have been as a result of Iranian revolution which took place in 1979. The sanctions have also been strengthened by the Iranian regime in 1995. The United States sanctions against Libya were strong before the 2011 civil war in the country. Before, the government of the former leader Muammar Gaddafi used to finance terror practices in the country to work against the States. These terror attacks included the Berlin bombing in 1986 and the Lockerbie bombing in 1988. The U.S responded by bombing Libya. However, since the outbreak of the Libyan war, the relations between the States and and Libya have improved after the states took military intervention in the conflict which had arose. This saw the overthrowing of Gaddafi. Since then, the States has promised to cooperate with Libya.

The strained relations between the U.S and North Korea saw its source from the Korean War. Of late, the relationship has been strained by the involvement of the North Korea in development of nuclear weapons. The same has been prolonged by its attempts to long range missiles and the continued threat to strike the states of America and the state of South Korea with the use of its nuclear made weapons and forces.

The relations between the U.S and Sudan bear its sources from complexities both political and economic. Sudanese top government official and civilians are against the U.S interference and other nations in Darfur and against the Sudanese leader Omar al-Bashir. They claim that the interference is part of plot aimed to put their country in unrests economic, governmental and even territorial. The U.S and the state of Syria have had strained relations and sanctions because of the bilateral relations between the two countries. Conflicting issues between the two have been resulting from the Arab-Israeli conflict, the extension of the Golan Heights, concerns of the war of Iraq and the protests of the Syria’s Arab springs(Sami,2012).

The U.S has also put sanctions against certain persons. These include those persons who undermine the democratic undertakings in Belarus and people contributing to the conflicts experienced in Cote d’Ivore. Also any associates of the regime of Sadam Hussein and people whose undermine the Lebanon sovereignty and their democratic processes.
