Cast of Amontillado

Cask of Amontillado is a story by the renowned author Allan Poe known for his horrific and thriller novels. In this book, the narrator is Montresor who in the beginning points out that he had been insulted by his aquittance, Fortunato and that he wants to revenge for this. It is not clear who Montresor is making the confession to. The most likely explanation is that Montresor may have been writing a letter and event described may have taken place more than fifty years ago. The auditor who is referred do as “You’” is someone who knows Montresor. Although Montresor wants to exact his revenge on Fortunato, there is lack of evidence on the thousands of injuries that he claims to have been inflicted on him. He uses his experience of the insult to become the judge, jury as well as the executioner. The fact that Montresor was narrating the story fifty years ago makes the story seem even more unreliable.

The main theme in the story is that of revenge. Montresor is a character that has been scorned and although the injuries he was inflicted on are more than 50 years old, he is hell bent on ensuring Fortunato pays. He justifies his desire to take revenge by stating that he is uploading his family motto which “No one assails me with impunity.” Fortunato is chained into the room and Montresor wants him to die a slow death from hunger and dehydration. Poe shows how powerful need for revenge can be and how it may consume one’s soul even years later (Dern, pg. 53-70).

Poe utilizes color imagery as a key concept in questioning of Montresor’s motives. He states that his face had been covered by a silk mask probably to show that Montresor represents biased revenge. Fortunato on the other hand dons “motley-colored costume” and he tragically is fooled by Montresor’s motives. The color scheme used by the author portrays irony of Fortunato death sentence. The fact that Montresor choses carnival is an indication of how this period is characterized by lack of social order Author also employs foreshadowing. In the text, Fortunato states that “I shall not die of a cough, “and Montresor goes ahead to reply “True.” (Poe, pg. 45). This foreshadows the fact that Montresor already knew how Fortunato will die, that is by starvation and dehydration in the crypt.

Just like most of his other stories, Poe’s utilizes gothic elements. He creates a lot of horrific scenes which heighten suspense. A good example is the scene where Montresor and Fortunato are in the empty and dark castle alone. WE know for a fact that Montresor is planning a revenge but we are left wondering if he was going to execute the revenge in the castle. The setting of the story in itself ids gothic as it takes place in the dark catacombs, the catacomb has a grave site. Fortunato and Montresor work their way through narrow dark passageways, with dimly light torches that are underground and as they proceed the rooms keep getting smaller. This creates suspense because as a reader you are not in a position to predict what may take place next.

In conclusion, Allan Poe successfully narrates a story through use of literary devices to build on the plot, themes and characters in the story. Just like his other novels, he utilizes several gothic elements including the setting of the story to create fear and suspense among the readers. From the action of Montresor, we learn that dwelling on the past and seeking revenge on people who wrong us may lead us into committing crimes that may haunt us for the rest of our lives.

Most Lucrative Industries for Small Businesses in Australia

About 97% of businesses in Australia are small businesses. Unfortunately, more than half of these businesses fail during the first three years of operation. It is therefore imperative to research prospective industries and business environment before making an investment. A good entrepreneur, therefore, invests in a booming industry. Kimmorley CITATION Kim18 n t l 1033 (2018), in her article, lists the most lucrative industries in Australia for small businesses after analyzing the volume of invoices made by similar businesses on Invoice2Go application. On analyzing the information about the lucrative, I will decide which of the industries are most appealing to me and decide whether I would consider starting a business in Australia and how I would do it.

The article lists trade-based industries, auto repair industry, building and construction industry, and landscaping industry as the most lucrative industries for small businesses in Australia CITATION Kim18 l 1033 (Kimmorley, 2018). I find building and construction as the most appealing industry for startups. The demand for residential and commercial spaces is high. Accompanied with the ever changing technology in architecture which causes dynamic change in taste and preference of clients, means there is more business CITATION Glo20 l 1033 (Globe NewsWire, 2020). Building and construction goes hand-in-hand with plumbing, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). More construction translates to high demand for plumbing and HVAC. Food industry also, has more potential for profit because the demand for food will never end. Although they are highly controlled and very competitive, having a strategic plan, differentiating products manufactured, and tapping into latent demand may give new players a competitive edge CITATION Del19 l 1033 (Delforce, Dickson, & Hogan, 2019).

According to Kimmorley, the food industry has one of the highest growing sales potential in Australia. I would, therefore, consider setting up a business in the industry. After an analysis of the industry and environmental factors that affect it, the decision to start trading is preceded by registering the business. Once I have been assigned an ABN, I would write a business plan that incorporates my source of finances, resources which include human resources and raw materials, and production planning. I would then appraise myself of the laws and regulations concerning the industry before starting any production. I would then roll out my strategic plan when starting manufacturing and selling.

In my opinion, the food industry, building and construction and plumbing and HVAC are the most appealing because products manufactured in these industries are highly demanded. I would consider investing in Australia, especially in food.

Admission Essay for Architecture School

Admission Essay for Architecture School

I developed desire to study architecture back in high school. The dream of emulating the likes of Terri Meyer, Rick Andrighetti, and Phillip Beesley would come true through pursuing architectural studies. University College London, Barlett remained as my first choice institution that would shape my future. Actually, a good future in architectural profession is dependent on providing the very best to the students from all possible pool of study (Buckley, 1990). Beside, the quality of the education is proportional to the fee paid in studying Architecture at UCL.

Sustaining living for seven years while studying Architecture at UCL is guaranteed given the conduciveness of the environment, the availability of the personal tools, and the learning strategies in the university. For instance, resident students are given the opportunity to enroll in the tutorial classes with minimum hurdles. Non residents are provided with the transportation, making learning efficient and affordable. Besides, the institution endorses exchange programs, benchmarking, project work and seminars to enable their students to remain updated with architectural requirements and developments (Blundell Jones, 1987).

The institution is equipped with qualified staffs who play an important role in ensuring productivity in the architectural field. Teaching body constitutes full professors, associate professors and P.H.D holders. Lecturers are responsible in ensuring that their students generate successful projects, introducing new working concepts, and assisting them in their research work (Editorial, 2001). Markedly, the members of staff from different Architectural departments ensures that the institution remain at the par in producing qualified graduates by emphasizing innovation and creativity. Going with this trend, UCL is ranked among top five Architectural trainers in the world. Not one student would decline an opportunity of studying in such a prestigious institution.

An architect is similar to an inventor. Just like the inventor, architectures are concerned with designing new devices and gadgets. UCL endorses design work through a program known as the Pedagogy. This programme creates opportunities that consolidates designers and other intellectuals in the world to contribute in urbanization and design work. Students are encouraged to volunteer their projects for the purpose of analysis. Different projects are evaluated and the successful ones are acknowledged in the ‘Best Big Thing’. UCL provides accolades and other merits to their students in order to boost their aggressiveness in the studies (Hillier, 1996). Students are introduced to additional programs such as architectural philosophy, archaeology, governance, and planning, therefore adding value to their studies. Still, the institution encourages architectural students to synthesis information across different spheres of their studies in order to promote literacy and maturity in their profession (Philips, 1989).

University College London is distinguished from other learning institutions through its educational mission that is founded on educating students to work smartly. (Venturi, 1992). Architecture is multidisciplinary course that covers architectural designs and creativity in the space. Students are introduced to key architectural ideas and design strategies in the core courses such as Architectural ARB, RIBA and AIS. These programmes combine media, objects and models, and field trips to provide students with crucial intellectual and practical skills in their profession. In addition, UCL enables students to consider cultural values, environmental and economic concern in shaping human surrounding (Amery, 1991). Among the programs that motives students to study in UCL is Barlett’s Annual Student Show, which involves students’ exhibition and lectures, Barlett March UD, an experimental design that aims at transforming paradigms into urban design.
