Disaster and Emergency Preparedness

Question 1

Due to the unpredictability of emergencies, it is important for individual and the state to prepare for disasters and emergencies. Though it is the duty of the state to ensure proper health and urgent attention incase of disasters, this responsibility cannot be entirely left for the government. Different non governmental organizations, communities and national efforts should also contribute towards ensuring preparedness. This has proved to be very important in many ways. For instance, involving the community will reduce the helplessness incase of an emergency and over reliance on the state for rescuing. According to Lundy, and Janes, (2009), “… become aware with local disaster plans and emergency evacuation procedures” (Pg 597). This is important because the community members are more involved and aware of the necessary steps to take to ensure minimal loss incase of a disaster. Similarly, the community will show support for the leaders willing to give long term solutions that will not only cater for unexpected events but also prevent their occurrence.

Organizations and other national efforts are also very important and should be integrated in formulating strategies for disaster and emergency preparedness. This is because the non governmental bodies fund the government and communities in formulating these strategies. They can also provide civil education on the measures that can be taken. Lundy, and Janes (2009) argue that “… visit schools to help prepare children for assuming the lifetime responsibility of being prepared for disasters in the community” (Pg 597). This shows the influence the private sector may have in assisting the state to take care of disaster. Besides this, they provide the necessary finances and immediate care for the victims. Research has shown that disasters end up more tragic where the damage is not taken care of in due time. Therefore, the contribution of immediate attention and preventive measures has assisted correct the situation.

Question 2

The health care system in the United States of America is supportive to the attempts to provide proper healthcare. It supports efforts brought forth to manage disasters and limit their damages due to inefficient machinery. Greenwald, (2010) argues/states that “The diversity of healthcare organizations described here reflects the complexity of the healthcare system itself…” (Pg 135). It is clear that the American health system is assorted and incorporates many aspects in its description. This is beneficial since effective machinery can be acquired to ensure proper care and attention is given to areas likely to face disasters. It is also capable of handling emergency cases conveniently. This is important because the effectiveness of an organization is a determinant of the benefits a people is likely to receive (Greenwald, 2010). The more detailed the health delivery system is, the more the chances of proper disaster and emergency management strategies.

Conversely, the healthcare system enhances proper communication among the medics and people in the medical industry in enhancing efficient delivery. According to Ray, (2006) proper communication reduces panic among the public incase of a disaster. This applies also in cases of terrorism which reduces the capability of the attackers to influence the public. The system equally offers sufficient training for its workforce to equip them with relevant skills of handling emergency cases. For instance, diverse qualifications such as counseling should be demanded of nurses in order to diversify their qualifications when there is an urgent need of its application. This applies mostly in disasters where the necessary workforce is not readily available. Therefore, the American healthcare system really promotes the effectiveness of healthcare and incorporation of many contributions to prepare for disasters. It effectively reduces damages caused by unpreparedness.

Question 3

Health administrators play a significant and influential role in implementing strategies to ensure disaster preparedness. Any decisions made are practical with the assistance of the necessary workforce. They are therefore required to support the long term efforts formulated for the subject matter. Some of these long term decisions include reduction of ignorance and creating awareness among the people. According to Sudmeier-Rieux, (2006), “Because poverty, vulnerability and environmental conditions are intertwined, efforts to reduce disaster risk will only be effective in the long term if they are integrated and institutionalized” (Pg 24). It is worth noting that identification of the problems is key in finding the solution. As an administrator of health, it is necessary to be aware of the problems at hand.

Besides the knowledge of the problem, description of the solutions should be looked into. These should be in relation to the foreseen disasters following the happening in the state. As an administrator of health, assistance in discovery of the problem is necessary. Similarly, willingness to help in investment of the necessary test tools for taking precautionary measures (Sudmeier-Rieux, 2006) should be exhibited as a sign of support of the future focused efforts. As discussed earlier, factors such as the environment, poverty and susceptibility determine the readiness of a society in terms of disasters. For instance, an environmentally polluted area has higher chances of suffering effects of natural disasters such as earthquakes. Therefore, need to caution people in this subject is important. The work of the administrator will be to educate the people on how to preserve their environment to reduce disasters. Support of the measures is a sign of the commitment of the health workforce to ensure safety to the country and efficiency in knowledge of disasters.

must be at minimum 10-12 pages long.  (Given your presentations, it could probably be longer)

should demonstrate that concepts and their applications (from cultural psychology) are understood

should have at minimum 15 scholarly references

at least 7 of those references should not come from those used in the course.  (You can use references that were used in class but there must be additional ones)

You may use the same sub-headings that were in the voice thread in your paper to organize it.

You will have to do research beyond the textbook and the readings to complete the project.

The paper must be in APA format.

Things that should be included:

An introduction—describe the topic that will be addressed, the major themes etc.

Movie selected

Overview of the movie; what is the plot?

Who are the main characters? What are their demographics? (e.g., gender, race, ethnicity, religion)

What concepts (no less than three) or theories from cultural psychology will be used as the basis of your analysis?

Select the examples for the movie or TV → show the incident

Discuss the psychological concept/theory from cultural psychology that you find best explains the example.

As in the presentation, include the background research on the creator of the piece.

For example if it is a television series who is the creator? What is their background? Do the same for a movie.  If it is based on a book, find out about the author.

Find other critiques of the media that you selected

There should be a discussion of other cultural analyses/criticisms that you have found on your media.

For example, the person whose life Fresh Off the Boat is based on (Eddie Huang) is highly critical of the show and has cut ties with the producers.

Include a complete reference list of sources used. In addition, include a list of relevant website links.

You will use at least 3 theoretical perspectives/concepts from class, the text or the readings. These must clearly link to the movie or television show.

Evaluating And Hiring Various Pay Plan

Evaluating And Hiring Various Pay Plan

Question 1

If I was an applicant the HPV program which would be most attractive to me would be the high risk plan. This entails getting a starting salary that is about 10%-30% below the average in the market and being allowed to participate in the annual bonus plan that ranges from 0%-60% of the current salary. This plan is very attractive since one is entitled to participation in the bonus plan. When taking into consideration of the bonus one will realize that they can actually earn a lot of money from these bonuses. This is because the bonuses are calculated as a percentage of the current salary by a percentage as high as high as 60%.despite the fact that I would be attracted to this plan the fact that the starting salary would be 10%-30% below that in the market would be a turn off since one might think they can get a better salary somewhere else in the market. I would definitely choose the high risk plan simply because of the high percentage on salary that is got annually in form of bonuses.

Question 2

The HVP program will lead to an increase in in the job offer acceptance. This is because of the three plans they have in place. Individual job applicants have three plans to choose from which will be appropriate to them. The job applicants will thus go for the most suitable plan for them. Another reason is the fact that they are also free to change from one plan to another after two years. Most job seekers will feel very comfortable if they have freedom to move to another plan in the case where they are not satisfied with their initial choice .therefore, most applicants will accept job offers since the HVP program is flexible and one can has an option of choosing a plan they would feel most comfortable with the conditions.

Question 3

The program will lead to a decrease in the turnover. This is due to the fact that the HVP program provides an opportunity for the employees to make a choice of a plan that they are satisfied with. This means that since the employees have this freedom then they are the only ones to blame incase they are not satisfied with their pay. They will not blame the leaders since they are the ones who made this decision .they are solely responsible for their working conditions and salary since they make this decision from the word go. Therefore; there are very limited chances of employee dissatisfaction. Thus employees will not have any reason to quit from the organization. Incase they are not satisfied with the plan they chose they can easily switch to another plan therefore they will not quit from the organization because of this freedom. This program will definitely lead to a reduction in the employee turnover if it is implemented.

Question 4

The current associates will be very delighted about the HVP program.as a matter of fact they will welcome this idea and fully embrace it. This is due to the fact that the program will bring with it the freedom to choose the pan they will fall under. This means that these associates will now have the power to choose their salary group as well as their eligibility to bonuses. They will also have a choice of the working hours since they are all stipulated by the particular program they will choose. The associates will accept this new program since it is not rigid as the previous system they were under. The program is created based n the needs of each employee therefore they will accept it as their needs will be taken care of. There will be absolutely no problem with the managers selling this idea to the current associates as they will easily accept it.

Question 5

The HVP is a new program to be implemented and just as any new program there are some challenges that the HR will face as they try to enforce it. First of all the HR will have a problem when it comes to trying to relay the information to current associates. Most people resist change.it will not be easy to convince the current associates of the new program since most of the are used to the old system that exist.it might also cost a lot of money for the HR to fully implement these new program as the organization will have to go out of its way when it comes to the funding of this new program. On the part of the hiring manger it might be difficult to negotiate the starting salary of job seekers. They might fail to agree in some instances and this might lead to turning down of the jobs. Therefore, the hiring manger has a very difficult task of ensuring that they come to an agreement on the salary otherwise no one will end up l accepting the job offers.

Question 6

As much as the program might appear attractive there are some changes that I would personally recommend to be made on the program. First of all I would make better offers on salaries under each there plans. Job seekers might decline the offers simply because the salaries are way below those in the market. I would therefore increase these salaries such that they will be at least all at par with other salaries in the market. Secondly I would also include participation of bonus for the low risk plan. This is even if it is as low as 5%.this is because most people are attracted by bonuses no matter how little it is. Lastly, I would revise the number of times one can switch from one plan to another. I would make it possible for the associates to be able to move from a plan to another once every year. This is because two years is a very long period and the associates might get tired of the wait and decide to move to another organization.
