Dietary supplement industry

The use of supplements is a common practice among many Americans and it gives most Americans the courage and the belief that they are healthy however this is not always true and once a person realizes this then they get to begin worrying. The use of supplements especially is of very concern since it is not controlled and therefore this allows anyone to introduce their products to the market which they always claim to have health benefits. Most of these products are not well researched about and the people who produce them may not have a strong medical background. This acts as a risk factor and the need for more concern to be focused on this area of operation.

Even though I have never been interested so much in taking vitamins or using food supplements which are so common, I have a different view about vitamins and food supplements after watching this video. This is because the video talks of how important it is for a person to be careful and gives real examples affected by the issue of taking supplements and vitamins which they believed were completely safe only later to realize that the supplements were not safe and are affecting their health (Saul, 2003). Therefore this becomes a very great challenge since the people the customer bought the supplement from entrusted his/her health to do not care so much about the health of the individual but rather look at the profits they are making out of the lots of money charged for these supplements and vitamins. Therefore my view has changed negatively in that I hoped that all the vitamins and food supplements were of good quality, tested, and reduced side effects as well as clear instructions on how to use the food supplements but this is not true as of now (Shaw, 1997).

The video talks of the company by the name purity first which makes supplements and it talks of how this company has been making a lot of money and how at the same time it continues supplying their customers with what is wrong and not what is expected or good. Therefore this company is just an example of other companies which might already be existence or which want to establish themselves and begin this production and sale of vitamins and food supplements. This kind of freedom is not good and therefore the FDA should be in a position to bring out the ability and the possibility of regulating these firms, companies, and clinics which produce these kinds of vitamins and food supplements to make sure that the safety of the Americans is first taken care of (Ladipo, 2000).

When it comes to the question of who is responsible for all this we can state that it is not the government or the individuals who are to fully blame for whatever happens. This is because even though the government is willing to increase its protection measures it is still in the hands of the citizens to decide what they want to buy and also for what reasons they want to buy whatever they want to buy. Therefore the responsibility cuts across and therefore it is important for both the government to ensure that all the products in the market are healthy and able to be consumed. On the other side of the customer, it is their role to be good judges and decide what they want to buy and only buy what fulfills their wills and satisfies their needs. Through this way, the population will be better protected from the people whose main ideas and goals are to make cheap money from the naïve and ignorant Americans who are so easy to fools around.

American democracy

The American constitution is one of the most envied constitutions in the world. Other countries envy how Americans uphold all that is stipulated in their constitution and how it works for them. This paper closely looks at the process that America went through to get the coveted constitution. The process was not easy at all, many conventions took place and the process was time consuming among other resources. However after all this, the constitution was left to individual states to either ratify or reject it(Tilly 2007). The paper also discusses the ratification of the constitution and the compromise made by delegates in the constitutional convention of 1787.The paper will present the writers view regarding democracy in America, did the constitution bring democracy or did democracy bring the constitution? The American constitution provides for human rights and upholds democracy to the highest level. Democracy in this case is leadership for the people, where the citizens have a stake at the leadership and decision making process.

The role of democracy in the constitution making process was well defined and respected. Democracy was exhibited in the making of the constitution as peoples suggestions were respected and considered. At this early time, democracy was not known by many and not many countries had a constitution. The American constitution was designed by delegates who had been chosen from all states to represent the interests of their people(Tilly 2007). The representation of the greater population by few delegates in the constitutional conventions was a show of democracy. The opinions and interests of the greater majority were represented by people whom they had chosen. Delegates clearly understood the mandate they had been given by the people and upheld it. A historian may ask himself, did the constitution bring democracy or did democracy bring the constitution? Democracy brought the constitution however, the constitution upholds and supports for democracy. The people were able to seat in all the conventions, give each other a chance to contribute and come up with a constitution to guide the country democracy brought the constitution.

Democracy also involves freedom of speech. Members of a democratic republic have the freedom to express themselves and share any agenda that they may have regarding the country and development. In 1787 during the constitutional conventions, there was a deadlock on how states would get representation in the congress(Stewart 2007). Every state wanted and supported the policy/suggestion that favored them. Large states with high populations supported the motion to have more representatives for larger states with high population than small states which were less populous. At the same time, smaller states supported the motion to have one representative per state. Freedom of speech was first show cased in this conference where the delegate from Connecticut Mr. Sherman expressed himself with a viable suggestion. His policy was adopted by those who had attended the forum. If democracy was not in use, then it would be difficult for Mr. Sherman to get the attention he required to have the motion accepted.

The American constitution upholds democracy through the institutions it has put in place for every process to be democratic. Elections at are national level are always conducted after four years, this ensures that the people have the verdict of who gets to represent them. Democracy involve the people making choices on who should be their leaders and taking out of office those leaders who fail to perform as expected of them(Obama & Obama 2006). The ratification of the constitution was a process that proved that democracy was being upheld in America even before the constitution was put into use. The people had the chance to make a decision to either ratify or reject the constitution. Different states took different amounts of time to go through the constitution and understand it before they could make a decision. A major debate in the conventions was the representation of each state in congress.

In conclusion, the opinions of the people in the constitution making process were upheld and gave America a chance to have a constitution(Stewart 2007). The constitution upholds democracy since, the constitution has created institutions which give people the chance to be heard and participate in the decision making process. The decision making process involves elections where people have the chance to put into office the leaders of their choice. The ratification process was also a chance to exhibit democracy, every state had time to either accept or reject the constitution. It was a chance for independent decision making where everybody had an equal chance. Democracy is the participation of people to contribute in leadership by having their opinions heard and worked on(Obama & Obama 2006). This is giving the people a chance in choosing their leaders and getting rid of those who waste their chance while at positions of power and leadership. The constitution has put in place institutions which uphold democracy and give people the freedom of speech.

Critical Thinking, Global Warming

Critical Thinking, Global Warming

Global warming has been portrayed as a very complicated issue that continues to bites the heads of many leaders in the current times. The writer of the article has really tried to persuade the readers on how serious the issue of global warming has become, what causes it and how it has been dealt with by various countries and organizations worldwide. The writer uses various devices to try and convince any reader on the causes of global warming for instance the writer says “Warnings from the scientific community are becoming louder”, here the writer emphasizes that it is a great concern on the increase in gases that cause global warming. The writer further tries to show how there has been a sharp rise in global warming due to global emissions and there is no better way to express this rise but through the use of the statement where there is use of the words jumping of global emissions by three percent in 2011 and a further jump looms in 2012 of about 2.6percent.

The writer shows clearly that while developed countries are working towards the reduction of global emissions, developing countries are really struggling with this and there is a sharp disparity between developed and developing countries when it comes to this. This he has clearly portrayed by use of rhetorical device in the statement “But the decline of emissions in the developed countries is more than matched by continued growth in developing countries like China and India”. The writer also implies that there have been little or no efforts by many nations to try and combat this issue of global warming and he uses rhetorical device in the statement “Yet nations around the world, despite a formal treaty pledging to limit warming — and 20 years of negotiations aimed at putting it into effect — have shown little appetite for the kinds of controls required to accomplish that goal.” This statement Puts emphasis on the fact that most nations have not put seriousness in the issue of dealing with global warming that the issue deserves.

This article is a rhetoric one since the writer by all means tries to persuade the readers on the issue of global warming. This is through various ways such as the use of rhetoric devices and deductive and inductive reasoning in the statements that he writes. All this are coupled by facts on research that have been conducted and he clearly puts the figures down for readers to see and get convinced when they read the article and get persuaded on just how serious the issue of global warming is and the causes and the eventual effects if it is not looked into keenly. This article is not an argumentative one since there are no arguments raised on the issue rather only forms of persuasions by the writer so that readers can be convinced that global warming is a serious problem.

There is also a lot of validity in the article since the writer bases the article on facts and actual figures that have been researched on. The writer is very precise in what they are writing on since the figures are actual for instance when he writes that global emissions are expected to jump by 3 percent in 2011 and 2.6 percent in 2012 and also when he stated that If that there have been records of 34,008 new daily high records set at weather stations as compared to 6,664 new record lows that have been maintained by weather channel meteorologist .this are not figures that one can state without serious research being done and hence makes the article valid in terms of facts that the writer has put down.

The article ahs been written in a logical manner and all the ideas that the writer tries to put forward are logically developed. First the writer introduces global warming as a serious problem and goes ahead to state what causes global warming. He then further elaborates on the measures taken to try and deal with the issue by developed countries and tries to explain why it is a challenge to deal with global warming in developing countries as compared to their counterparts in developed countries. All this ideas are properly put forward and they are developed in a logical way such that any person reading the article will be convinced on the issue of global warming (Kemerling, 2011).

Further in the article the writer gives a background on global warming which is done in a logical manner starting from human influence, emissions, as well as factors that are not in regard of human activity. Thereafter there is a categorical explanation of the steps that have been taken to try and find a solution to the problem of global warming.

Humans are a powerful influence on climate, and hence it can be deduced that they can be associated with global warming. With the rise in emissions and green house gases a deduction can be made that they play a big role in the continued increase in global warming. There are other climate changes that are not due to human influence they include long ocean cycles that have also been attributed to global warming. From an inductive point of view the writer portrays all this factors to be the causes of global warming are clearly explained in the background (Crossman, 2011).

An example of a syllogism that the writer uses is when he gives the conclusion that there have been a decline in emissions in the united states among other developing countries from the facts that they have transferred some manufacturing companies to developing countries and also the conscious efforts in place to limit emissions such as the use of renewable power sources such as natural gas.

This article has been an eye opener on the causes of climate change and it has made me change my views on the causes of global warming and hence made me see that not only human activity can cause climate change. This article is very persuasive and convincing when it comes to the issue of climate change.
