The Muralist Movement: Leonardo da Vinci’s Murals

About Leonardo da Vinci’s Mural

Undoubtedly, mural art is one of the most loved artworks of human history. Leonardo da Vinci is one of the Renaissance’s greatest painters. Da Vinci is known for continually testing artistic techniques and traditions. Leonardo da Vinci developed innovative compositions and investigated anatomy that accurately represented the human body. He incorporated the human psyche to bring out character. He experimented with various techniques, including space dimensional and three-dimension surfaces and a result of his curiosity was many unfinished projects. However, the same experiments influenced numerous art successors. His works were used as standards of representation in the centuries that followed. Leonardo left behind numerous books filled with sketches and jottings of some of his finished works at the time of his passing. Some of da Vinci’s paintings were completely destroyed, over painted, or lost. Described in this text are three of his mural arts, namely Mona Lisa (c. 1503-19), Last Supper (c. 1495-98), and Self Portrait (c. 1490/1515-16).

Mural Descriptions

Mona Lisa (c. 1503-19) remains one of the most renowned artworks of all time. Every year, the Mona Lisa drawing draws thousands of visitors from across the world to the Louvre Museum. They marvel at the sitter’s enigmatic smile and mysterious gaze. It is a seemingly ordinary portrait of a young woman dressed in somber colors, a thin veil, and without jewelry (West, 392). It makes viewers want to know what the fuss is all about. It showcases da Vinci’s skill and talent for realism. Last Supper (c. 1495-98) is also globally renowned. It depicts closely connected moments highlighted in the Bible in the Gospel of Matthew 26: 21-28. Da Vinci recreated the moment that Jesus declared to his disciples that one of them would betray him. It was during the last supper He instituted the Eucharist. The disciples’ postures seem to rise, extend, intertwine and fall as they appear to grieve, yell, and debate around Jesus as he sits serenely in the middle. The Self Portrait (c. 1490/1515-16) is a self-portrait. The drawing made out of red chalk is of an old man with a long bread and long wavy hair. The beard is positioned so that it looks like an extension of what most people think is Da Vinci’s face.

Critical Commentary

I selected the three portraits, including Mona Lisa, Last Supper, and the Self-portrait, as they appealed to me the most. In my viewpoint, out of all the known creations of Leonardo da Vinci, these three stood out the most. For instance, the self-portrait that is thought to be the face of da Vinci’ is rather captivating. The fact that he did not use a normal pencil, but red chalk makes the photo more intriguing. How can a person create such a beautiful painting of a face out of mere chalk? As for the last supper painting, I was drawn by the fact that da Vinci was able to bring out the body language and the emotions of the disciples as they discussed amongst each other who would betray their master. The technique that da Vinci employed to create this photo is also interesting. I selected the Mona Lisa painting because, before today, I did not have an idea that the painting was called the Mona Lisa painting. I found this interesting because this painting is familiar to me; I could tell that I had seen it before. Because of this, I wanted to know more about the history of the painting.

Comparing Leonardo da Vinci’s art to Michelangelo’s art

It is no doubt that both Leonardo and Michelangelo’s art were both exemplary artists. They, however had different approaches to art hence the notable differences in their art and mural work. The main notable difference is that da Vinci seemed to be interested in art because he loved art. He loved art for art’s sake. On the other hand, Michelangelo made art for his love for wealth. Secondly, Michelangelo turned specifically to sculpture and the skill of drawing. Michelangelo chose to get back to art to worship the human body. He was accurate about the human form, which made him come up with his own gods of beauty. On the other hand, da Vinci concentrated on the science behind his art. He was also quite essential in the Renaissance, as highlighted by his multi-faceted traits. Although da Vinci had a secular attitude toward science and art, he also tried to understand science’s role in the secular world (Verdiani, Angela, and Carmen, 26). Unique social and political influence made da Vinci combine both art and science.

Abstract

Student success and the effectiveness of teachers have been the center of most education forums today. The best teaching strategies are those that empower students to become active learners, while providing a guideline for teachers to enhance faculty development. Additionally, there is a need for assessing teaching in terms of technical, practical, institutional and interpersonal strategies. This article is a newsletter for The New England Faculty Development Consortium with reference to designing and documenting for student success.

Key Words: Designing Pedagogy, Documenting, Student Success, Faculty Development and Effectiveness

Introduction

In the present-day setting, increasing student diversity and accountability for learning outcomes poses a formidable challenge to the learning process. Current innovations in learning institutions indicate the application of effective approaches to encourage student commitment and accomplishment. The demand for an increase in providing learning opportunities for students has challenged educators to develop instructional delivery options that foster instructional integrity and student success.

This paper examines the concept of designing and documenting for student success. The paper explains how instructors and educators can effectively and efficiently design for successful learning outcomes and teaching effectiveness. Additionally, instructors need to understand that education approaches do not necessarily affect the content of the curriculum but rather the design that the instructor intends to use during the course of study.

Designing Pedagogy and Documenting Approaches to Successful Learning Outcomes

The first step towards student success in the learning process centers on designing and documenting paramount approaches towards teaching and successful learning outcomes. Designing and documenting pedagogy centers on developing curriculums with the goal of ensuring student success. Designing, such a curriculum, provides opportunities for instructors to leverage the strength of their educational documents with the efficacy of the instructional goals for student success. The concept of designing and documenting for successful learning integrates the teaching curriculum with apposite instructional strategies to improve the learning process for students. Equally, instructors can opt for collaborative or adaptive approaches in the design and documentation of education in institutions. Collaborative designs facilitate the transfer of learning for students, hence educational success, and achievement. Adaptive designs, on the other hand, promote increased interaction by students, hence, access to dynamic educational materials and content.

Enhancing Faculty Development and Teaching Effectiveness

Effectiveness in teaching is, routinely, evaluated through supervision, where supervisors, peers, and student assess the effectiveness and efficiency of teachers in the classroom. Enhancing faculty development with the aim of improving teaching effectiveness is, expansively, perceived to be the vital ingredient for efforts in the amendment of the educational milieu. Analyses of the outcomes of efforts to improve curriculums identify the accessibility and effectiveness of faculty development as a predictor of the educators’ success or failure. Despite procedural precincts, faculty development promotes the achievement of instructional goals and objectives. Enhanced faculty development increases understanding of educational doctrines, as well as, develops teaching effectiveness. Some of the features of enhanced faculty development contributing to teaching effectiveness include provision of well-designed intercessions concerning instructive principles and the use of diverse educational approaches.

Conclusion

Successful learning outcomes and teaching effectiveness can only be realized through accurate design and documentation of edification approaches in institutions. Subsequently, for a student to succeed in his or her learning process, instructors need to implement extensive curriculums that are diverse and dynamic. Conclusively, boosting faculty development will, essentially, improve teaching effectiveness for educators and instructors.

IntroductionThe movie is about dancing, and the lives of different people. It starts with (Shohei Sugiyama) a married man, and with a teenage daughter decides to enroll for dancing lessons, after seeing and getting attracted to a young woman (Mai), who stands on a studio window every evening, while he rides in a train. He later finds out that he loves dancing more than his work.

The movie shall we dance by Suo is a movie that is extremely entertaining, and fascinating, from the start; it is a comedy movie, as there are some scenes that are so funny that makes one to laugh. The movie may not be having extra ordinary features but still it is a marvelous movie. The movie is simple as there no dreadful desolation or bitter rivalry or ugly confrontations. In the movie, no person is portrayed as the hero or a character that is not liked by everyone, but the character in the movie has their weakness and strength. In its place, Suo has brought out a society that is natural, with unfaithfulness, retaliation, and complaining victims.

The lead role has been displayed as an unusually quiet man, unexceptional man, who is not satisfied of the straightforward life he lives, and looking for something more interesting. This is what makes Suo to get attracted to Mai, and later dancing something that he had never thought of trying. Suo does no fault the lead role for falling in love with Mai, or for sneaking from his place of work to go and attend dancing lessons. Shohei’s daughter and Shohei are both brought out as lively individuals. Suo does not also focus on the lead role his family, or personal affairs, but also talks of other people in the movie, such as John, who does not know to dance but love it. The simple way that the movie unfolds impacts on each and every person watching the movie as each and every person can find a scene to connect to ones life. Shohei is not entirely, satisfied by his life which are most people, in the real life feel, but he handles it in his own way.

There are some humorous scenes all through the movie, such as the unsuccessful hard work of Shohei to be the best dancer, the miserable attempt to dance at the party. His increased interest to dancing even though he is not good at dancing, so the best way he can do it is by moving his feet under his desk. The funny part is where he goes to practice dancing under the bridge, or at the railway station. He even joins a dancing competition even though he is not an expert dancer.

Conclusion

The personal life of the supporting actors in the movie gives life to the story, such as the obese man who joins dancing to cut down on his weight but ends’ finding it the best place for him as it gives him joy that he has never had. The director also introduces a woman, who serves as Shohei’s inspiration as an excellent dancer. Shohei’s workmates are the other supporting actors; some are not supportive of Shohei, but the agility of the woman motivates him to continue with his ambition to be become a pleasant dancer. All the characters in the movie connect with the audience as each is unique.
