Practitioner scholar

Practitioner scholar

The attainment of the level of scholar practitioner is something that many people normally aspire for but it’s only a few that can match the level of the qualities and attributes that a real scholar can demonstrate. This course mainly focused on the meaning of scholar practitioner and how they use the skills qualities and other attributes to create value in other people’s lives. According to the definition of a scholar practitioner, one can only attain that level through excellent professional achievement after undergoing a rigorous program of theory, research and experimental knowledge. These are normally supported by strong personal values and ethical conduct as prescribed by that particular area of profession. A scholar practitioner is someone who is committed to the development of knowledge in a particular area of study and hence will require a substantial level of commitment to be able to contribute to creation and management of knowledge and new ways of doing things in a particular way.

Scholar practitioners also value collaborative learning environment where people are able to interact and share knowledge and skills. From the above background I have been able to develop a strong understanding that scholar practitioner can be defined as a well organized and skilled individual with strong principles and ideals that are gradually developed through academic engagements, professional development and social systems which are combined and passed from one person to another. Scholar practitioners are prominently found in disciplines such education, medicine, psychology, sociology, managegement and law among others.

The personnel in these disciplines normally exhibit a strong understanding of the subject matter within their areas of specialization. They also have several years of professional experience gained through practice in the same fields and hence they have been able to demonstrate effectiveness and efficiency in solving problems in the specific areas. This according to my understanding is the true definition and meaning of scholar practitioner. Most scholar practitioners normally end up in education sector as lecturers but it’s quite clear that scholar practitioners are capable of handling a whole range of activities in practice but generally most of them will end up being agents of change within organizations but others will specialize in business leadership.

This course has therefore expanded my knowledge and understanding about the true meaning of scholar practitioners. Before this course I only had a narrow meaning of practitioner which was basically restricted to educational sector as a lecturer who assists in the development of knowledge in a particular field but after carefully studying the meaning of scholar practitioner I have therefore developed a firm understanding of scholar practitioner as people who can be found in almost all spheres of life.

This course will therefore guide me through my academic and professional goals and will provide a good background for consolidation of my skills and knowledge towards the attainments of scholar practitioner level. It will also impart the necessary values and ethical components that will be necessary for my success in all areas of profession. Scholar practitioners are mainly interested in the development and dissemination of knowledge and this will be one of the greatest virtues social change as the world becomes more and more informed. This will also go along way in helping solve some of the challenges that the people experience. This course has therefore motivated me and has created a new drive that will propel me towards higher professional and academic achievement and hence attainment of scholar practitioner status.

Op Art

The first most influential artistic movement of the twentieth century is op art. The movement begun in1964 and involved creating paintings through a style that included the use of optical or visual illusions. Majority of the early paintings created using this style were mostly in black and white and included interactions between a picture plane and illusions. They also included interactions between seeing and understanding. Unlike paintings painted in earlier styles, op art produced paintings that were abstract such that the viewer gets an impression of patterns, movement, flashing, vibration and swelling among others (Henry Sayers,2011).

When future generations look back at the artistic movements of the twentieth century, thyme will value Op art because its use of line, color, shape and pattern to create paintings that have illusionistic effects on the viewer. Over the years, it has been held that the main aim of Op artists was to play around with the perception of the viewer through the use of changing tones, ambiguous shapes and lively color relationships to subvert the picture plane. Despite being static, Op art images bring out a feeling of movement through perceptual stylistic tricks that result in an unstable picture plane. The resultant image is difficult for the eyes of the viewer to focus on and viewers are forced to turn away from the fear of hurting their eyes. During the early sixties, the fairground excitement side of Op art was so popular that it became commercialized by fashion and design industries.

Abstract expressionism

This artistic movement begun in the united states after the second world war and was the first American artistic movement to acquire international status. Previously, Paris was the hub of western art but this changed after the rise of abstract expressionism. The name abstract expressionism was first used in Germany and was first used in reference to American art in 1946 by Robert Coates (Henry Sayers,2011). Abstract expressionism combines features of German expressionists like self denial and emotional intensity with those of Europe like futurism, cubism and Bauhaus. Some people also see the movement as advocating for rebellion, anarchy, nihilistic and idiosyncratic. Abstract expressionism gained in the 1950s after the end of the Second World War. Many ideas of abstract expressionism were greatly influenced by the great depression as well as by muralists of Mexico. After the end of Second World War during the McCarthy era, artistic expressions were banned in the United States unless the artistic work was proved to be abstract. Unlike other artistic styles, this style is unique in that it put emphasis on the painting work as well as the message that the viewer will derive from viewing the work. It’s also unique in that it was used to communicate hidden messages.

Pop art

The Pop art movement started in Britain before spreading to the United States and other parts of the world. Unlike earlier artistic movements, Pop art came up with new ideas that included incorporating images from popular culture like news and advertising in artistic works. This artistic style includes taking materials out of their context and bringing them together with others to create and artistic work. Unlike other older artistic movements, pop art uses certain aspects of mass culture like comic books, cultural objects and advertising and this explains why many view it as a reaction to the domination of abstract expressionism. This movement will also be valued by future generations because of its use of images from popular culture compared to the use of elitist culture in earlier movements. The main aim of this movement is to collect materials of popular culture to emphasize the banal culture of that society mostly through the use of irony. Many works of pop art are considered incongruent mainly because of some of the conceptual techniques used are difficult for some people to understand. Lastly, this movement will also be valued by future generations because it marked the rise of youth culture, globalization and pop music.

Minimalism

There are other artistic movements of the 20th century that future generations will scorn and ignore. The first of these is minimalism. This style did away with all the unique achievements that had been made by abstract expressionism. Whereas earlier styles like abstract expressionism used several elements to bring out the hidden message in a piece of work, minimalism advocated for the reduction of these elements by going back to the basics of art like surface, materials and shape (Henry Sayers,2011). Minimalism artists avoided details and instead used sharp forms, and geometric grid shapes in creating their work. Unlike in other styles where color was used to bring out many hidden meanings, minimalists simply used it to define surface and space.

Surrealism

The second artistic movement that will be scorned by future generation is surrealism. This style mainly opened the minds of artists to greater ideas through tapping into the unconscious mind. Many artistic works of surrealism were based on dreams and psychic automatism. This means that artists were doing their work in an unconscious state of mind. This means that they were not in control of their mind and this made their work not relevant to the existing social, political or economic situations. Whereas other styles like abstract expressionism were used to address existing problems, this style just dealt with imaginations of a subconscious mind.

Dada

This style will be scorned because of its efforts to destroy all artistic achievements of the past. More to this, it will be scorned because it was founded on disgust for social, political and economic setup of the time. In achieving its goals, the movement used rather unpopular styles like provocations and confrontations. Another reason why this movement or style will be scorned is that it attacked other artistic movements and made them unable to express their ideas in their own way.

REFLECTION 1

The first idea of art came to my mind right from the time I was five years old. I never knew what decorations existed in my room until I came to understand that some of the pictures hanging on the walls were paintings or drawings. Much of the content was brought in as an idea of my parents who could hardly live within an art free environment. I started thinking and figuring out if what represented beautiful scenery like beaches, beautiful mountains, and colorful sunset sky images were real pictures or just paintings. The idea to point out that it was the work of art was that whenever observed closely, the images were a bit blurred unlike real picture images. Real picture images have clear outlines even when looked closely. Today I could clearly point out that the hangings in my childhood room were replications of the true works of art found in the museums.

REFLECTION 2

Original piece of artwork can hardly compare to the originals especially when given a close look. At some point, it may be difficult to point out the differences between an original piece of work and its reproductions. When I first saw art and developed idea that it is the work of art, I hardly thought that duplicates could exist. The originals as they may look have an immediate recon at a glimpse. One can feel the texture given that it is a painting, a drawing, or even a sculpture. The reproduction found online or in books can hardly have a sense of texture given that they only represent images of the work initially done the an artist as I later found in the museums. This clue came to my mind after looking harder into their differences, comparing what I had seen and touched in the museum with what I had seen in my room, advertisement books, and magazines. What I saw in the museum was worth the cost.

REFLECTION 3

There is a handful of communication by the use of shorthand symbols with a few under the same category us8ing language. A lot is changing the current society with visual communication becoming more popular and preferred to formal or writing communication. Symbols are today popular in communicating issues as evident in many aspects of life like transportation and communication symbols that constitute road signs and clipart in text communication using mobile phones. This is a breakage from the formal ways of communication that proof to be a little more tedious than the visual mode of communication growing in popularity today. Many people today prefer watching movies based on corresponding novels to reading the novels. Kinds also play games and watch more TV than they would do it in reading stories or novels. This means that this kind of learning is gaining the same strength like the earlier teachings of reading or writing.

REFLECTION 4

Every person is sensitive concerning his or her environs. A sense of location happens to be the ultimate cause of why people get concerned about beauty and all that constitutes it. To increase the awareness of people’s locations, visual tools are used and these include maps, viewings of artist’s renditions of a specified location. People could add strength to this by having to read about other people’s experiences within the same location. In this case, given that, I place myself in a certain geographical part that is unclear to me; I would try to point a landmark to the location so that next time I would be more familiar with the location. Taking picture of the place would be easier and accurate than having to remember all details. Taking picture may only create a memory about the experience but looking around more closely would be fun and would enhance my awareness of the landscape the next time I could leisure in the same place.
