Defining HQCs

Highquality connections (HQCs) are positive, short-term, and dyadic interactions at workplaces. Though interactive experiences are subjective, individuals involved experience a sense of positivity when they encounter each other. As HQCs affect cognitive, emotional, and behavioral wellbeing, positive interactions tend to inspire clear thought, competent actions and individual and collective flourishing in the workplace. Additionally, as people are dynamic and social by nature, they need to feel a sense of belonging either through thought or behavior (Gable, 2019). HQCs are integral to the functioning and health of individuals in the workplace hence quality connections not only influence the functioning of the individual but also ensures that work duties are understood and accomplished successfully.

HQCs are influenced by indicators such as positivity of subjective experience and a connection’s structural features. Subjective experiences include factors such as feelings of vitality in connections, a sense of positive regard, and a degree of felt mutuality (Stephens et al., 2011). These factors not only heighten positive energy, but they also increase engagement in connections and the sense of being cared for (Miller & Stiver, 1997). Some of the structural features that characterize HQCs include the emotional capacity of connections formed, the resilience of connections formed, and the level of openness to influence and ideas. These features not only reveal the impact high-quality connections have on performance, but also reveal how HQCs influence positive impacts.

HQCs affect behavioral and cognitive processes hence they not only influence individual functioning, but also affect the overall functioning of all employees in an organization. Moreover, HQCs are crucial in promoting individual growth and development hence they help enrich individual identities

Exploring Long-Term Loving Relationships

Dr. Gottman’s research uses observational data to determine interaction and behavioral patterns that indicate high risk couples and low risk couples. Based on the sequential analysis, Dr. Gottman and his colleagues were able to successfully differentiate happily married couples from unhappily married ones. Through his observational coding tools, Dr. Gottman was able to determine positive and negative couple interactions.

Based on Dr. Gottman’s research findings the development of long-term loving relationships is possible in instances in which couples have a more positive emotional index than the negative emotional index. Therefore, unhappy and unstable couples experience either more negative emotions than positive emotions or have a balance of positive and negative emotions. In contrast, happy and stable couples have more positive emotions than negative emotions. Based on these observations therefore, Dr. Gottman identifies physiological calm, commitment and trust as integral to increasing positive emotions over negative emotions. These factors not only promote effective communication, but also promote loyalty and greater understanding of partners, traits that help reduce conflict (Gottman, 2018).

Overall, Dr. Gottman identifies the five to one positive to negative ratio as the index for long-term loving relations. As such couples should not only focus more on positive emotions, but they should also practice calm, trust, and commitment, the three main ingredients for increasing positive emotions. As Dr. Gottman states, love relations are important and they result in greater health, wealth, resilience, longevity, and successful offspring. As such, a couple should focus on maintaining positive emotions that guarantee loving long-term relationships.

Understanding Meaning

Based on psychology, meaning is an individualized pursuit of purpose that is based on one’s perspective. Meaning is based on an individualized perspective hence every individual has the primary purpose of understanding what life means to them and subsequently developing their sense of purpose (Steger, 2018). Some of the sources of meaning include motivational drive, mental processes, and emotions. The motivational drive involves people’s inclination to set and attain goals. As such, this desire pushes people to set targets they find important and thus attain a sense of meaning when they accomplish said targets (Klinger, 1977). Unlike motivational drive, mental processes involve stimuli, thus people process the information they gather through sight or sound and consequently determine their goals and sense of meaning. Lastly, the use of emotions to determine meaning involves the reliance on emotions to develop a sense of meaning. Consequently, individuals need to constantly feel positive about their lives to develop a sense of meaning.

Some of the benefits of understanding one’s meaning in life include improved well-being. Individuals that have a sense of meaning often experience a greater sense of well-being thus they enjoy important aspects of life such as positive relationships. Moreover, people with a great sense of meaning tend to gravitate towards people with an equal sense of meaning further building positive relationships that are based on support. Other benefits of meaning include longer healthier lives. Just like well-being, individuals with a sense of meaning often avoid negative behavior such as drinking, substance use, and exposure to unnecessary risks (Steger et al., 2015). Moreover, people with a greater sense of meaning experience significantly lower levels of stress hence they enjoy better health and live longer lives.

One of the greatest sources of purpose and meaning in my life is taking care of other individuals. The ability to help the people around me either through resources or time not only makes me feel good about myself but also creates a sense of pride and empowerment. I believe that helping others equates to making the world a better place.

Video game is a general term that is used to describe computer games, arcade games and also console games such as play station. With the rapid rate in which technology is changing, the gaming industry is also not left behind. This technological revolution has seen video games move into the homes, with increasingly advanced games on offer. In the 1980s, there was a push for computers to be introduced to classrooms and this was closely followed by the discovery of the effect of video games and educational software on the academic performance of the children.

Over time however, the negative effects started to surpass the positive effects considering the fact that the video games moved into homes and can be easily accessed by children. Initially the games did not take a lot of time and were acceptable by the society. Conversely, in considering the present state of affairs, the games are consuming more time and have become increasingly violent. Children have in effect started exhibiting aggressive behaviour and they are constantly becoming desensitized to violence. Other negative effects of video games include physical disorders such as video induced seizures, obesity and postural, muscular and also skeletal disorders such as nerve compression and tendonitis. The overall time spent on video games has a negative correlation with the academics of children and also their behaviours in the society.

What’s the Psychological Effect of Violent Video Games on Children? (this second part is from the second word document and its titled just like the document. Its by HYPERLINK “http://search.proquest.com.ezproxy2.apus.edu/pubidlinkhandler/sng/pubtitle/Targeted+News+Service/$N/29620/DocView/875658932/fulltext/13E97AC9B417DD6B81B/3?accountid=8289” o “Click to search for more items from this journal” Targeted News Service [Washington, D.C] 28 June 2011.

The United States Supreme Court recently overturned a ruling that had banned the sale of violent video games to minors. This elicited a debate that looked into the effects of violent video games in the field of psychology. Psychologists strongly believe that the behaviour of children can be directly influenced by long hours of playing violent video games. Brad Bushman a psychology professor in Ohio State University provided evidence that video games can lead to an increase in aggressive thoughts, psychological arousal, aggressive behaviour, increased heart rates and angry feelings. He also proved that the violent video games led to a decrease in feelings of empathy for others and the desire to help others.

Other psychologists such have Christopher Ferguson argue that video games have a positive effect to the behaviour of children such as better stress management. This argument however does not hold water in that the negative effects outweigh the positive effects. Parents should therefore not be complacent but exercise more caution as to the amount of time spent by the children on the video games and the content of the games. They should minimize the children’s exposure on the violent video games and limit the time spent on the less violent video games.

A Review of the Effects of Violent Video Games on Children and Adolescents (this third part is from the 3rd Word document titled after the document. Violent video games are usually action oriented and more often than not include changes ion scenes and the audio levels vary considerably. The amount of movement in some games is also extreme in that the activity levels in the games may increase the children’s attention. However, the violence in the games may portray the wrong image to the children by seeming to justify violence. In some instances the violence is glamorised to the degree that the children identify with the violent characters in the games. Moreover, the children appear to ape the actions of their icons in the games especially in cases where the games are perceived to be realistic.

Psychologists have identified that the age of the children may affect their response to the violent games. Adolescents who are nearing adulthood may not be as seriously affected as young children who have just graduated from preschool. The younger the child that is exposed to the violent games the greater the effects. Long term psychological effects may result since the child will incorporate the violence in their neurological development and their personality growth.

Another major effect that is pointed out is desensitization that is a result of repeated exposure of the player to the violence of the games. Such extreme actions such as theft and murder become increasingly normal to a player of these games after repeated exposure. The child may eventually cease to have any negative feelings when witnessing such violent acts. This may exceed to the degree of comfortably planning or performing the violent behaviours.

Media Violence and Children: A Complete Guide for Parents and Professionals. (this is from the works cited by Gentile , douglas)

Anderson and bushman devise a model known as the GAM which works to depict the effects of violent video games to children. According to GAM, situational and personological variables work together to influence the internal state of an individual. Personological variables include, attitude towards violence and trait hostility whereas situational variables are exposure to the real world violence or media violence. The individual’s internal state is then interplay of cognitions and feelings and arousals. For example, hostile thoughts can influence hostile feelings. Therefore, a child who has been playing video games for a long period of time will affects their cognitions, affects and arousals which influence an individual’s interacts of those aggressive acts. Once the interpretation is made, the children or adolescents begin the decision making process (Gentile 75). The decision whether to react peacefully to situations or to react aggressively is then based on the interpretation of the situation based on the violence witnessed by the individuals playing the games.

Violent Video Game Effects on Children and Adolescents: Theory, Research, and Public Policy is from the works cited below by Anderson Douglas and Kathrine)

The correlates of aggressive behaviour amongst the adolescents are psychosocial and biological correlates. The psychosocial correlates mainly show the effect of the violent video games on the socialization of individuals. Most adolescents who play video games for long hours end up adapting anti social traits due to the short amount of time spent with people. The antisocial behaviours may also be due to the individual’s inability to respond to the real world after spending time in the virtual gaming world. Biological correlates are mainly based on the effects of the games on the neurological responses of the individual and the health of the individual (Anderson, Douglas 98).

Corporations and how they impact the society

Corporations and how they impact the society

A corporation is a legal business entity whose members have limited liabilities. This means that incase of liquidation, the owners only lose the business assets and the employees their jobs but not any private property. They are mainly created by a body of persons or entities that come together and form one business operating unit (Zerk, 109). Corporations are considered as real persons and can be convicted and are also allowed to exercise human rights just like individual human beings.

Picketing is the act of people gathering up in a designated area like in front of a company entrance to make their grievances known to the management or owners of that company. This includes members of the public gathering up in peaceful demonstrations against a common grievance in an effort to have the relevant authorities take some actions. Picketers can significantly paralyze business operations if allowed to gather up momentum and proceed for an extended duration of time.

Of late demonstrators have been picketing homes of billionaires in Wall Street. These demonstrators claim that the owners of big corporations in Wall Street, a term which has come to be associated with the wealthy individuals in America are taking undue advantage in the American market to ensure that they continue enriching themselves at the expense of the American majority population. Among the owners of corporations whose homes were picketed include Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan Chase, David Koch, the vice president of Koch industries, Howard Milstein, the New York private Bank and Trust Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O) president and Robert Murdoch, News Corporation C.E.O among others. The organizers of these gatherings who include United New York, Working families’ party and the New York Community for change claim that the owners of big corporations exercise undue advantage over the American working class and the civil society creating a huge gap between the rich and the poor.

Corporations all over the world have social responsibility to the larger society or community. Corporations should act in designated way which should be for the interest of the larger community and not their own selfish interests. There should be accountability as well as transparency on the part of all corporations (Zerk, 144). It’s important that the interests of all stakeholders including the customers be considered rather than concentrating solely on the interests of shareholders.

Corporate moral responsibility in the American economy has ceased to be in existence. The wealth corporate owners, who include bank owners, insurance firms’ owners and credit card company owners, are continually neglecting the plight of the local American citizen, putting the prices of some essential commodities and services beyond their reach. Banks have raised interest rates while the credit card companies have very high charges in providing their services (McGeehan, 7). The corporations are going to the extent of even employing under age individuals just to try and maximize their profits by cutting down costs. These among other illegal corporate activities have had a negative impact on the society. Income disparity has increased significantly creating a huge gap between the rich few and the majority many.

The New York Times reported that the wealthy community of New York who represent only about 1% of New York population and who live on the upper east side are set to pocket $5 billion in unfair tax breaks. This disparity in income distribution is forcing the majority citizens to more poverty. A teacher was reported to have lost his house and now spends in as park while teaching special needs children during the day. More people are being forced out of their houses and homes and making the life of the common citizen even more unbearable. It is for this reasons and others that the common citizens have been forced to the streets to demonstrate against this disparity and have the federal government take some actions. All in all, the corporations should exercise some moral responsibility to all the stakeholders involved in their growth.
