Non-verbal communication is the presentation of ideas and messages in ways that are not verbal and that includes gestures, eye contact, posture, body language facial expressions, and other forms of communicative methods which are not verbal. Nonverbal communication is very important when trying to build relationships and trying to express the feelings of a person. I have used this type of communication in many instances whereby I was needed to express what I was feeling to my friends and it was very difficult to express the same through the word of mouth. This method can also be used to complement verbal communication in making a message more appealing and more powerful in the manner it is expressed and I have also employed this especially when I have tried to convince my friends or family members to do something for me.

Culture is defined as the terms which refer to the human social behavior and norms within human societies. These include knowledge, arts, laws, capabilities, customs among other aspects of culture. Culture affects in so many different ways how people express themselves non-verbally. For example, a certain culture can state that dressing in a certain manner is prohibited. Therefore if a person dresses in the manner that is prohibited most of the time they are understood as being deviant. From my childhood, I have been taught that it is always very important to treat everyone equally and with the ultimate respect. Therefore this part of my culture has enabled me when in public transport and there is an old person who does not have a seat or maybe they are sitting in an uncomfortable place to always give them my seat. I have also learned how to be happy always and show a face of being joyous because I have been told that happiness comes to those who are happy.

Verbal communication is the communication with the world of the mouth. This involves pronouncing words and stating what a person needs than the other side responding to that specific type of communication. Verbal communication is different from nonverbal communication in that nonverbal communication involves the use of other types of communication apart from word of mouth while verbal communication is specifically fixed to the use of the world of the mouth to communicate. The other difference is that verbal communication does not express emotions, as well as non-verbal communication, does express emotions.

In my relationships, there are basic things that I consider very crucial. The first thing is honesty. This means that if a person is close to me they always have to be honest with me because if they are not honest and I realize it I will get very angry at them. The other thing is respect. Even though I have friends we can joke all-around some issues always have to be addressed with the highest respect. For example, when my friend talks to me about my family there has to be total respect in regards to them and I cannot have my friends talking about uncomfortable stuff about my family.

Communication climate refers to a situation whereby the tone and the manner of communication in a certain relationship are unique and the same does not apply when a person communicates with another person. The communication climate with my parents is most of the time positive and we talk about many different things and issues which affect me as well as family issues and therefore the communication climate is always positive geared towards them supporting me and helping me become the person I want to be. From the manner of communication with my parents, I really would like to extend the same kind of climate to my other communications especially with my instructors at college.

Communication

Communication is one of the most basic features and characteristics of human beings that make them understand each other and be in a coordinated manner of life. The most basic definition of communication is the exchange or passing of messages, thoughts, or information either by writing, speech, signals, or behavior. This means that communication does not just happen through verbal means but also happens through non-verbal means. Communication is important for easy understanding of what people within the same geographical environment need, it addresses major issues within the society and binds people together. This paper, therefore, discusses the major ways communication is of importance to human beings and how this importance is brought out through the interactions of human beings.

The three main types of communication include verbal, non-verbal, and visual. Verbal communication has to do with word of the mouth. In this specific kind of communication, individuals express their ideas feelings, and thoughts using words of language learning. Sometimes written communication is usually referred to as a type of verbal communication. Therefore it means that verbal communication has one basic characteristic and that it the use of the only language to express what is being expressed. Therefore oral communication and written communication define this type of communication. This is the most obvious method of communication.

The other type of communication is non-verbal communication. This is whereby there is the use of non-verbal cues and non-verbal methods of communication. This type of communication can be combined with words or written forms of communication, however most of the time it is used on its own. It is the most used form of communication in the world. This is because unlike words written or orally pronounced feelings and emotions can be expressed through non-verbal communication. Therefore for example when speaking with a person they do not necessarily listen to the words but they focus on the non-verbal because non-verbal communication can tell them what exactly you are feeling about a certain issue or point. The common types are facial expressions, eye contact, silence, proximity, gestures, touch, and personal appearance among others.

The other type of communication is referred to as visual communication. This type of communication most of the time does not involve human beings directly communicating to the other but involves the use of things like posters and signboards and others which are for the organization of life and society through the understanding of the message they pass. Some of the common types of visual communication include flags, traffic lights among others. Of the three types of communication, I prefer non-verbal communication the most. This is because by understanding nonverbal communication it is not easy for a person to lie about what they feel about something and therefore having the correct knowledge helps in making the right decisions and choices.

Self-concept is the idea of self from the beliefs one has about themselves. For example, if I believe I am kind I will try to display this virtue through the way I speak and act towards other people. Therefore having a positive self-concept helps a person express themselves more positively to the outside world using the various forms of communication. I believe I am kind, therefore this self-concept has been moulding how I speak and communicate with the people around me positively. Therefore through the way, I communicate my self-concept has been amplified and it is forming part of me.

I believe that kindness is a universal quality and therefore through my different means of communication most of which are non-verbal I have been able to realize how the quality of being kind affects the people around me positively. However, every person exists within a culture and on my side, I have been able to interact with different people from different cultures; this has given me a clearer understanding of my self-concept in face of other cultures other than my own and the result comes out the same- that it is a universally positive quality.

Language is a system of communication with words structured in a specific manner and principles of language use conventionally agreed upon. My main language is English and in addition to non-verbal communication, language has been of importance in expressing my values. One of the benefits of using the English language specifically is that the English language has many speakers and reaching a large number of individuals is easy. Even though the language is good it can also affect our lives, careers, and other aspects of our lives negatively. For example, the troublesome language used by some individuals can affect relationships and other aspects of human life. Troublesome language is the language used negatively maybe to bring division or strife. Some individuals expressed how I was pretending to be a good person and therefore this made my desire for kindness to proceed wither.

In conclusion communication and language are very essential in our daily lives. Therefore using competent communication can enhance one’s life to a great extent. For example, preaching about kindness while showing examples through non-verbal communication like assisting the needy can be of great help to me and the campaign.

Communication during an EHR System Implementation

Communication during an EHR System Implementation

Change is inevitable truth. Change is a necessary occurrence not only in life, but as well in business. Business must adapt to the changes that occur in society, the economy, and even new laws and regulations. If an organization resists or ignores change, then they will as an organization. Change can have a significant impact on employee’s motivation and productivity. Organizations need to prepare their employees so that when the change occurs there is a smooth transition. The smooth transition and preparedness comes from organizations communicating with their employees. An employee’s willingness to accept and adapt to change is heavily dependent upon them knowing the reasons and benefits of the change. A smooth transition during an EHR implementation is imperative because the organization needs to continue seeing patients.

Change is an automatic switch for fear to be turned on. People in general fear the unknown and this is what change brings; the unknown. Fear is associated with change because the change is more than likely out of the employee’s comfort zone. Some employees flourish and thrive on this fear while fear affects others motivation. Extinguishing these fears takes communicating with employees CITATION Gil09 l 1033 (Gilley, Gilley, & McMillan, 2009). Let the employee express their fears and use the information to give them reassurance.

Change can also bring out employee’s insecurities. These insecurities can stifle productivity and motivation with an EHR system being a technological change, employees may begin to question their skills to be able to work with an EHR system. Change can affect employee motivation due to employees being concerned about their job security. Certain employees may feel that EHR may take over what they do leaving no need for their employment.

Communication goes a long way in the implementation of an EHR system. Communication before and during an EHR system implementation can help answer employees questions, calm employees fears, and keep them focused and motivated. Let them know that some aspects of their jobs will change, but not for the bad. Notify the employees that the EHR system can enhance their current skills as well as enable them to become even more efficient than they already are CITATION Wes12 l 1033 (Westgate, 2012). Allow employees to offer their input about the EHR implementation. Give employees the opportunity to get involved by asking them their suggestions and ideas, that way they will feel more secure in their position as well as involved in the process. Show the employee that part of the success of the organization is due to their contributions and they are important for future success. Address questions as openly and honestly as possible. Keep the employees fully informed and involved during the EHR implementation CITATION Pol08 l 1033 (Polack, 2008). Communicate the logic and benefits of an EHR system. Detail the benefits that employees will get from the EHR system, as well as improved quality of care given to the patients.

One of the biggest challenges the organization will face in the implementation of an EHR system is training employees on the new system CITATION Fir13 l 1033 (First Insight, 2013). There most likely will be employees that have computer skills that are more advanced than others are. The important goal is to complete an assessment on your employees’ basic computer skills CITATION Fir13 l 1033 (First Insight, 2013). Getting a complete understanding of where your employees technological skills are will enable you to develop a thorough training plan. It will take time for the employees to learn and be comfortable using the new technology. Allow employees to adjust by introducing new sections in increments. Overwhelming employees with constant new material instead of allowing them to digest what was just taught could ultimately hinder the EHR implementation CITATION Wes12 l 1033 (Westgate, 2012). Part of the budget for the new EHR system should include hiring onsite training. By having onsite training available, employees’ questions will be answered as they arise. In addition, onsite training will know how to handle and teach employees at all technological ability levels.

The key during this implementation is to be patient and supportive. Your employees are trying to deal with this change while fulfilling their job responsibilities. Let them know that you are going to be there to provide support, encouragement, and even gratitude during this stressful time.
