My reflection on the treatment of a 40 year old, female dental caries patient
My reflection on the treatment of a 40 year old, female dental caries patient
One of my greatest achievements as dental hygienists is the ability to help my patients overcome their periodontal problems through an elaborate treatment and personal change process. The patient I selected for my case study was suffering from medium dental caries. I had a wonderful opportunity in engaging this patient in a four-month long treatment regime that opened up my eyes to the realities of managing patients with dental caries.
On initial presentation, the patient had a fair to poor oral hygiene despite her regular visits with her GDP. One of the most shocking things is that certain patients, like my case study patient do not seem to have any form of concern or worries about their poor dental health. Dental caries is a serious disease because as research indicates; there is a link between periodontal disease and cardiovascular diseases/conditions. One might end up having a myocardial infarction simply because of their careless attitude towards dental caries (Matilla, 1993). The fact that the patient was in her 40s coupled with her periodontal disease predisposed her to acute myocardial infarction. There is a great need for public sensitization on the dangers of common periodontal conditions.
Life and career lessons
My encounter with the patient taught me the importance of proper communication with patients. I realized that dental hygienists can use communication in effecting positive change in their patients. I also leant of the need of evidence-based practice in all clinical operations. Another thing that I realised while treating this patient, was that sometimes when you are looking at the carious teeth on the radiograph, you cannot accurately predict how deep the lesions are. Before carrying out treatment; I always told myself that the lesions are not that deep, only to find them deeper than what I actually anticipated. This stresses the need for an elaborate diagnosis tool and criteria in the diagnosis of primary caries.
How I would improve patient treatment if I had to do it differently
If given another chance with a patient suffering from dental caries or any other periodontal condition, I would ensure that my diagnosis is based on clinical visual diagnostic criteria coupled with technical or laboratory data. I would also ensure that I treat the concept of connecting with patients as a basic ingredient of patient care. I also failed to educate the patient of the risk factors to poor dental health. In the future, I would ensure that all my patients are better educated on how to maintain a health periodontal health and on ways of preventing future attacks. I would need to come up with better ways of conducting periodontal risk assessment. This would include salivary tests, digital radiography, use of fluorescence cameras and pH analysis. Enamel preservation is a critical element of caries treatment. My future treatments would include this important procedure. I would also advise my patients on the need for behavioral modification as part of the process of caries management.
Conclusion
One of the greatest lessons I learnt in the process of treating the patient is that the very first step in any given treatment decision is conducting a proper diagnosis. It is important for instance, to establish the caries risk level before embarking on any treatment exercise. Proper communication must also be fostered with patients in order to effect any behavioral changes. I’m glad that my patient left happier than she was initially. This experience will always help me in my life long career as dental hygienists.

My reaction on Insulabarataria
Introduction
Insulabarataria is with no suspicion one of the most-cited and best-known interludes of Miquel seminal work. Firstly, the episode can be mainly seen as the comedic realization of Sancho’s yearning for a better situation, with the bad ending where Sancho flees Barataria hungry and demoralized an aspect that makes the reader assume that his failure, made him flee. Yet, it is clearly evident that the event functions as an examination of the circumstances and the limits of good governance, and the aspects required for a ruler who hopes to establish lawful authority over a community. Sancho’s own understanding regarding his governance is split among his duty of being a representative of the law and the individual rewards he hopes to gain from his new gained position of power (THE BEDFORD ANTHOLOGY OF WORLD LITERATURE, 131). First and foremost, he performs in a way that many never expected, by giving insightful judgment, which earn him the genuine admiration of the citizens of the make believe island. Hunger and cowardice are the aspect they use in the second aspect as a way of unravelling the doomed fantasy they had made for Sancho. Don Quixote takes on the role of a counselor and reflects ironically upon the governance of Sancho (THE BEDFORD ANTHOLOGY OF WORLD LITERATURE, 134).
Don Quixote acts as a counselor and tries to urge the prince ways in which he could rule to gain the favor of the people. This is an aspect that he frames and says that should be emulated from Sancho. Sancho’s own understanding regarding his governance is split among his duty of being a representative of the law and the individual rewards he hopes to gain from his new gained position of power. Based on this aspect it’s quite clearly that Sancho wanted to gain more from ruling and also lead his people well. This is an aspect that could not be achieved as you have top clearly serve the people or money. This is ironical as Don Quixote tries to tell the prince to emulate Sancho. The fact that Sancho flees Barataria hungry and demoralized an aspect that makes the reader assumes that his failure, made him flee. This is an aspect that makes Don Quixote tell the prince that if he rules like and follows the leadership styles of Sancho, then he was also going to flee as a result of hunger and failure (THE BEDFORD ANTHOLOGY OF WORLD LITERATURE, 137).

Background
Harley Company has been in existence since first decade of twentieth century. At that valuable time in history, Hearly and company were able to come up with the first kind of motorcycles and as with any other new product in market, initial stages of their venture had many difficulties (Gingerelli, 2011). One such shortcoming was inability of their primary motorbikes to climb a hill without additional human effort. All the same, later developments have been important in addressing these challenges (Scott, 2008). This far their products meet the desired taste of population.
The first products from this company were simple engine driven bikes with no capacity to ascend small hills. This kind of engine was one designed to function alongside pedal if need be. It marked a good beginning with all its shortcomings giving a hint to what may benefit the society if improved (Scott, 2008). In every endeavor, there is always a starting point and for them; this was it. At the time, workstation of this company was a small wooden one with minimal machinery to assist in production (Stanfield, 2005). It was not sophisticated enough to meet desired quality production. With all that, the young Hearly and other group members took their first challenges as fruitful learning experiences and forged a head.
New generation design were smartly planned to deliver machines with larger capacity. A repeat of the first time failures was their biggest worry and both effort and strategies were put in place to address predictable troubles (Gingerelli, 2011). With assistance of other interested parties, this became a success and paved way for what is now the famous motorbike industry of Hearly and Davidson. Documentation of completely assembled and functional unit of their second-generation motorbikes was first made in 1904 (Scott, 2008). This is also recorded as the first public appearance of their motorbikes taking part in a race competition in which it emerged fourth.
Generally, Hearly-Davidson Company made remarkable developments and was ever on the rising state regarding quality of their products. Even so, there were numerous problems to overcome along its development path. One such setback was the cutthroat competition arising from other worldwide motor engine producers (Dess, 2011). Collectively, major issues to address were the Japanese competition, a period of poor quality control and the American great depression period. The great depression was a time of extreme economic difficulty for the entire world and America formed part of it. All the same, the company thrived.
Since early times of their production, this company has been significant in supplying motorbikes to both police and public. Indeed the police form a major market for their products even in present times. With ever advancing skills in the industry, knowledgeable producers and quality control persons have been able to keep pace and remain relevant in the dynamic market. It is worth noting that the founders too were hard working and taught personnel who acquired university degree in engineering (Dess, 2011). This was a necessary step in aiding success of the primary production years.
Among factors that keep this company strong are its mission and vision. Vision is designed to eliminate or to the list, minimize short time thinking and focus on the better future (Stanfield, 2005). This provides a sustainable growth. It has been the secret of success for this company. A service provider in this company has the mental orientation of satisfying the clients first and then other necessities follow (Dess, 2011; Scott, 2008) Quality is paramount and must never be compromised for any intention of additional monetary gain. The driving goal is to surpass expectation of customers and the company boasts of achieving this so far. The feedback mechanisms provide it with a means of self-assessment.
Actions Harley-Davidson’s managers could take to reduce expenses
In the modern day world, motorcycle producing companies have gone up a situation that has heightened competition amongst them. Motorcycle from China have many companies to go back to the drawing board and strategize on how the can counter such companies. Therefore, one way Harley-Davidson’s manager should do is to focus on outsourcing for the supplies of cheap but high quality parts. Gingerelli (2011) says that some of the parts used in the assemblage of the motorcycles are very expensive which makes the price of the finished product go up and hence uncompetitive in the market. Secondly the company needs to invest on modern technology because modern technology is cheap, convenient and efficient.
How Harley-Davidson can achieve economies of scope
Dess (2011) argues that achieving economies of scope by leveraging assets requires a company to reduce cycle time and develop expense via technology recycling. Secondly, Harley-Davidson needs to be more effective in monitoring development efforts by way of countering threats and opportunities. In addition, it is required to make a wise selection of products that are in line with the market needs.
