My main aspiration in life is to become a radiation therapist. I have previously worked in the community on health matters though those were not the actual fields that I feel I ought to be. For instance, I worked as a sexual health advocate for a period of three years where I spoke to people about the need for safer sex. I have also done a course in counseling and I have been using such skills to help people with stress manage themselves.

Apart from the above, I am also a certified suicide prevention candidate and have been working in a hotline known as Scarlet Listener where people call seeking help in certain stressful issues of life. In case we can not help them, we offer referral services. I also worked as a Medical Assistant and computer consultant for a pediatrics office for a period of five years. In that sector, I prepared the patients and also did keep the records. I also shadowed an Ear Nose Throat doctor for 2 yrs in which I talked to patient and recorded their symptoms and background information

With the current change of climatic conditions, there has been an increase in cancerous ailments posing threat to the lives of people. It is one of the most dreaded disease in our time not forgetting that still majority of people do not have the knowledge. Most people have died without having known that they were suffering from cancer. This is one of the main reasons why I want to pursue the radiation therapy. It has been defined as the medical use of ionizing radiation as one of the procedures of treating malignant cells.

I have always wanted to be of help to the community and I am confident that by pursuing this profession, I will have achieved my goal. The research indicates that many people especially in Africa lack information about cancer. Some of them are the notion that once you acquire such an ailment, you automatically die as there is no cure. This kind of biased information has been in the public domain for decades due to the fact that even the physicians treating the cancer patients do little as far as dissemination of information is concerned.

One of the main reasons I feel fit for this kind of profession is the fact that I have been a counselor for a period of time now. I have also been working with clients in assisting them to cope with various stresses in life. Therefore, with such prior experience, I have the confident that I can render better services to the patients that I will encounter.

Though rated one of the best method of cancer treatment, radiation therapy has also some of its limitations. Though no pain at all felt in the process of treatment, experts say that some of the major side effects of that kind of therapy are fatigue and skin irritation. The fatigue is said to be as a result of the treatment process that the patient has to go through and may last for several days. The skin on the other hand may end up losing its elasticity due to the damage of the epithelial lining. However, this depends on the part of the body that is exposed to the radiation as some are hard as compared to the rest. One of the other major side effects is epilation or the hair loss which occurs within the fields of radiation.

One of my major steps will therefore be to let the society know what cancer is all about, and to offer them hope that there is still survival to the victims. Another reason for pursuing Radiation Oncology is the fact that unlike the other means of treatment, it offers both palliative and curative options. Palliative occurs in the event where cure becomes impossible. Those exposed to this kind of therapy are able to have longer life. It could therefore be used as the expert try to find the cure for cancer. On the other hand, radiation therapy can be used to cure patients who begin treatment earlier before the malignant cells spread in the affected areas.

The other major reason I want to pursue this kind of profession is the fact that it is flexible when it comes to job market. Being still new in the world of medicine, it means that the market is not flooded. Cancer is also a universal disease meaning that there are no geographical boundaries when it comes to working. Majority of the countries still lack the necessary skills and man-power as far as the radiation therapy is concerned. Due to lack of capital too, many countries especially in the third world have not embraced this new treatment technology. This therefore means that there is high demand for the professions in this kind of treatment.

The other reason is because a radiation therapist works closely with radiation oncologist whose main work is to administer medicine to the cancer patient. The therapist is required to monitor the progress of the patient such as keeping the images of the affected area so as to know if there is any progress in the life of the patient. Apart from that, the therapist is supposed to make sure that the patient is taking the drugs as prescribed. In case of any side effects, the radiation therapist has the prerogative of advising the radiation oncologist to consider using other alternative means. Though it could be monotonous and tiring to monitor the patient for long hours, the fact that we work in team makes me like this kind of work. The responsibility of the care of the patient therefore lies in the hands of the therapist and the oncologist.

The other main reason why I want to pursue this kind of profession is because it is well paying compared to other fields in medicine. Though it requires competent, experienced and skilled man-power, it is rewarding. This is because of the fact that it is not flooded as we saw earlier and therefore, there are great opportunities of getting a job. The world today has experienced an increase in the number of people suffering from cancer calling for proper measures to be taken in order to save the lives. Most of the researchers attribute such increase in cancerous infections to the lifestyles that people have acquired in the recent times and the destruction of the environment. The later for instance, has led to the increase of skin cancers due to the deterioration of the ozone which is protective layer against harmful radiations from the sun. This is the main reason the world leaders have been calling for the need to conserve the environment to curb further damages and increase in cancer patients.

With the knowledge I have acquired in several fields of medicine, I have the confidence that I can perform well in this profession. Any kind of assistant that is accorded to me to achieve this goal will be highly appreciated.

Politics, society and justice

Society consists of members of the public from various communities. For the society to maintain peace amongst themselves, a justice system needs to be in place. Justice is an essential aspect of the organization of the society. There are several factors that influence the effectiveness of justice. One of the significant factors in this case is politics. Political issues involve managing the society so as to promote growth and susatainability. All the three factors are interrelated in that one function affects the other (Young and Danielle p. 260). The focus of this paper is to provide an opinion on the issues that are related to politics, society and justice. The paper will answer questions related to these topics elaborating my stance on the issues at hand.

Why do Latin governments spend much time on arms?

Arms and ammunition are a requirement for the security of any government. Security is an essential factor of any country in that it protects the growth and sustainability of the economy. Latin governments have a reputation of trading in arms due to the high returns each weapon gives to the country. It is significant to note that ammunition influences a country’s position as a world power. No government can perform without the existence of an army. The possession of ammunition is thus not forbidden. Some countries however, exaggerate the need to invest in arms for various reasons. An example is that of the Latin American countries who are known to place a high amount of emphasis on the acquisition of arms. Latin governments spend so much on arms because of the economic impact it has. The trade in arms is a profitable trade recording sales in 45-60 billion annually. Although Latin governments are predominantly responsible for the sale of arms, countries such as America, China and Russia are the key players in the purchase of arms. The Latin governments thus take advantage of their resources so as to profit from the market that has a large customer base (Sipri Yearbook, 132).

What is the school of the Americas?

Commonly known as the schools of assassins, the schools of Americas is a Latin organization that focuses on the training of assassins. The school of Americas was founded in 1946 in the Georgia. The association is located in Fort Benning, Georgia as a result of their ban from Panama. The associations’ primary goal is aimed at retaliating against the operations of the United States government. The United States has a reputation of being the protectors of democracy across the globe. The reputation of the country continues to diminish due to its unlawful intrusion of the affairs of other countries. The Latin countries have vested interest in the control of various forms of trade in and outside the country. America uses its position as a world power to curb the activities of the Latin states. In order to protect their territory, the school of Americas recruits members of Latin countries so as to protect their borders from outside interference (Gill, p. 351).

Why do we train Latin Dictators?

Training of Latin America dictators is one of the primary functions of the school of Assassins. As stated earlier, the school of the assassins is an initiative of the Latin governments whose main aim is to protect their territory from outsiders. Such outsides in this case belong to the United States government. In 1997, it was revealed that United States was in fact a key player in the organization of the association. The government admittedly confirmed the fact that is responsible for the training of dictators. Some of the ways that the United States took part is seen in the immense amount of funding allocated to the association. It is difficult to understand why the country is interested in the leadership of other countries. America is a relatively new country compared to the rest of the world powers. The countries fast paced growth has seen the government increase its global position through intentional investment. In order for the country to successfully enforce their interest in a potential country they need to have strong support from insiders in the particular country. The United States thus passes policies that act in the best interest for the development of the country. The United States is therefore responsible for training dictators who can act as puppets and pass policies in favor of the American government (Ezrow and Frantz, p. 245).

Why do we torture

The United States has on several occasions advocated for the enforcement of human rights across the globe. This places them in the position of the protectors of the international community. Over the years, the reputation of the country displays records that contradict their stance on human rights. One of the cases that the country is associated with is the torture of both American and non American citizens. America has several locations and situations that prove their involvement in the torture of different persons. Torture is described as the infliction of any sort of pain that creates an uncomfortable environment. This environment is normally strenuous so making a victim reveals essential information at the point of their break.

There are many theories as to why the country involves itself in such repugnant crimes. One of the reasons for the country’s participation in torture is to extract information or evidence from spies or enemies of the state. This situation is brought about by the difference in ideologies, policies or agreements that causes a rift between the state and opposing countries. Persons who are caught on the opposite site of the country are seen as potential terrorists thus are treated as such. The country thus enforces negative reinforcements that consist of torture of suspects (Young and Danielle p. 253).

Is a person guilty until he is proven innocent?

The law is a tool given to society so as to protect their rights and privileges. The society is full of ill intentioned citizens who do not have regard for human life. It is thus essential for all states to ensure that its citizens are well protected. When a crime is committed, the law enforcement body derives a list of suspects who are liable to the system. These suspects become involved through the association they have with a victim or an illegal act in the event of the occurrence. When an individual falls under the category of being a suspect, they are served by the court to defend them self. The arrest of an accused should be done as they receive the options of their legal rights as a citizen. The assumption at this point is that the accused is innocent until they are proven guilty. This notion has over the years been disputed by different parties stating that a person is guilty until they prove their innocence. This statement is thus contrary to the principles of the law that state the opposite. It is not uncommon for inmates to claim their innocence even after spending half of their lives under incarceration. This proves that the legal system is not perfect. The passing of the privacy act in 1974 called for the cleanup of the database by ensuring the reduction of legal errors. This policy saw the release of a number of inmates who had served a considerable amount of time for crimes they did not commit. It also reveals that there is indeed a large portion of inmates who are serving sentences for crimes committed by other offenders. The notion that a person is guilty until proven innocent is not ideal due to these statistics (Howatson, p. 314).

In conclusion, the government accounts for a large part of the livelihood of the society. The government has the responsibility of protecting their citizens from any form of harm. The government also has a responsibility towards members of other countries. It should thus treat other states the way they would require their citizens to be treated. The country’s involvement in the activities is met with both positive and negative repercussions. The United States involvement in the political affairs of other sovereign states displays the hypocrisy that country caries as a whole. It is thus up to the state to take matters into their own hands by distancing themselves from the issues of other countries. This will enable the government to focus its attention on the matters its citizens face as opposed to their neighboring countries.

Introduction

Writing has always been a fundamental part of the human society. Indeed, a large number of fond memories pertaining to human society has been recorded in some form of writing, some discernible to the contemporary individuals, while some are yet to be cracked (Goatly, 2000). While writing has the capacity to pique an individual’s interests at an early age, I must admit that my experience with it is not so pleasant. Indeed, if I had the capacity to avoid writing, I would, undoubtedly, have shut it out of my life. Nevertheless, I could not always hide from my fears, in which case I have learnt to not only embrace writing but also cherish it as it prepared me for some real world experiences. Indeed, my capacity to express myself in writing underlines the fact that I would have the capacity to verbally voice my opinion rather than blindly following someone else’s opinion.

In my opinion, writing provides a gateway to a significantly more imaginative world where personal and societal issues would be relegated to the periphery. The images that the eloquently linked sentences and phrases portray give readers an opportunity to not only participate in the story but also be the character (Goatly, 2000). This, however, does not undermine the fascination and complication with which writing comes. It allows individuals to express their thoughts on any creative subject about which they think without any restrictions. However, the hardest part revolves around the incorporation of proper punctuation and grammar, as well as ensuring the flow of ideas. This would explain why I find it more preferable to read than dwell in the uncertainties that come with writing.

My earliest memories pertaining to reading revolves around the little cardboard books that allow little kids to master the alphabet. These books always incorporated graphics and pictures that made learning more fun and interest unlike learning the alphabet from a plain blackboard. With increased comprehension of these readings, I was introduced into the world of fairytales, which my parents read to me as bedtime stories. This would explain my soft spot and inclination towards fictions. Indeed, I, on countless occasions played the role of a princess and even believed that my prince charming would eventually take me to a magic castle built in the sky. While I no longer dream in that line, reading takes me to the fantasy world where I can be someone else living a different life. In some cases, I get immersed into particular stories and crave to change some scenarios in the stories or even think of varied solutions to the dilemmas that he character is facing. Of course, I get angry in instances where my favorite character uses a different technique and fails, while I clearly think that mine would have worked.

On entering elementary and middle school, there was an increase in the volumes of books that I was required to read. As stated, reading came as more preferable than writing as it did not require any intellectual input, unless, of course, it involved carrying out an analysis of a passage. In instances where I write, I would, undoubtedly, be required to engage in a rigorous process of determining the content, introduction and even conclusion of the passage, while also incorporating some flow in the passages. While I, generally, hated writing, there were some creative writing assignments that I particularly liked. Most memorable is a poetry project given to me in 9th grade that accounted for 50% of the 4th quarter grade. I was required to compose poems describing my family, myself and even newspaper articles, not to mention haikus, which was my all-time favorite. The fun pertaining to haikus revolved around the fact that it could be written from anywhere.

However, a writing assignment in my 8th grade underlined the fact that writing was simply not my field. While I cannot recall what the topic of the paper was, I remember the horrible grade that accompanied the numerous red-marked corrections in the paper. Indeed, this made the teacher to hold a chat with me in which he questioned my citizenship statues as she did not believe that a native English speaker could make such moribund mistakes.

On the same note, movies and television programs have influenced my choice of material, especially concerning reading and writing. I particularly dislike superhero movies, a hatred that has been transferred to literature that involves the same. However, my preference for reading rather than writing is influenced by the simplicity that comes with watching movies, as it does not require any creativity, unlike writing. On the same note, it influenced my preference for detective stories and thrillers.

In conclusion, literary works come as a form of expression that allows individuals to indicate the type of people they are. Indeed, the literary works that individuals enjoy are an indicator of their inner selves and even truer selves. As much as I do not enjoy writing as much as reading, writing comes as a one of the best therapies for stress as it allows me to release any bottled-up unhappiness in me. One the same note, I have come to the realization that literature is an extremely fluid concept that gets an extremely subjective definition. Irrespective of the different capabilities, likes and preferences, all individuals engage in some literary works, with some variations in the level of perfection.
