Treating Dementia Cases: Ms N Case

Abstract

Determining a medication strategy for a client is important since this will provide sufficient approaches on the possible treatment choices. In this case, integrating an investigative approach is essential especially when dealing with chronic long-term illnesses like senile dementia. Additionally, the investigative approach will seek to establish data on two core principles, subjective or objective data approaches. This study will investigate a seventy-four year old dementia case Ms. N. The study will examine Ms. N case and establish lucid a medication strategy based on the results of the study.

Preliminary problem list for Ms. N

According to the ascending order, the preliminary problems for Ms. N are listed as, poor ability to respond mentally to her medical condition. Ms. N not only suffers poor communication, but also suffers dementia of the Alzheimer type. As a result, Ms. N suffers benign forgetfulness and temporary confusion. In most cases, Ms. N forgets urinalysis and thyroid function. In other cases, Ms. N is paranoid, hateful and resentful against people surrounding her.

Important piece information

As identified, the most serious problem in this scenario is the dementia. Dementia, which is caused by Alzheimer, is primarily responsible for developing resentment and missed medication. A patient cognitive decline often has limited insight on what is right and what is wrong. Consequently, cognitive decline is risky to Ms. N if she is operating alone or with a group of strangers. The scenario further ascertains that Ms. N was not in a position to understand the problem. As a result, she is not capable of expressing her frustration on her private means.

Geriatric syndromes

Geriatric syndromes are being recognized as serious but preventable iatrogenic complication. The direct result of medication on Alzheimer can cause serious adverse outcomes in older patients, for example, Ms. N. Geriatric syndrome is defined as highly atypical, prevalent and single-symptoms. In Ms. N case, cognitive impairment has been identified. Geriatric syndromes and functional dependence are primarily responsible for the loss of compensatory ability through the accumulated effect of multiple impairments (Greig, 2014). In fact, falls of incontinence can also be associated with Ms. N physiologic and structural abnormality as postulated.

Subjective data

In responding to Ms. N case, I would need to gather sufficient information on the nature of the situation. Subjective data consists of a critical enquiry of client’s opinions and feelings (Awad and Voruganti 2002, pp. 185). This information relates to Ms. N past relationship and pre-dementia symptoms that Ms. N was accrued with. Additionally, I would need to gather information regarding her past medical record. Secondly, it is important to gather information on how Ms. N performed before and soon after hospitalization. Subjective data relates to symptoms, which directly affected Ms. N. Subjective impairment, for example, relates to the remembrance of personality details and people surrounding Ms. N life. These could be next of kin or friends. I would get this data from spoken and body language about Ms. N performance. This can be achieved by performing listening and conducting interviews with Ms. N.

Objective data

Awad and Voruganti (2002, pp. 185) argues that, objective data include the observable and measurable pieces of information that the client could state. For this reason, it is necessary to concur with clinical practitioners who have been diagnosing Ms. N. These could be the psychiatrist, a doctor and nurses who have been recording Ms. N condition. For instance, the nurse could have measured Ms. N vital signs, weight, and changes of in urine volumme. Additionally, objective data was vital in measurement of body structures and function that involve, rate, rhythm, amount and size of usually made instruments.

Interventions based on Subjective and Objective data

After getting subjective and objective data, it is advisable to support this data with theoretical and case studies from patients with similar case studies. This information would guide the development of a coherent data analysis of the possible outcomes of given medication choices. In relation to Ms. N case, I would proposal the proper investigation of dementia pattern. Since Alzheimer is a serious problem, I would advocate the development rapid intervention, more investigation before initiation of a medication strategy (Leuven, 2013). Investigations would schedule proper and comparable outcomes between Ms. N case and patients documented in case studies that I would construct.

Discuss the similarities and differences between travel today and travel during Roman times.

Travel today has many similarities and differences with the travel during the Roman times. Starting with the similarities, Romans tourists visit famous temples, the Egypt monuments, game activities, and coast baths. Today tourism composes of similar activities only that the modern settings have made communication and travelling more superior with the availability of guidebooks, efficient transport, and technology. In addition, the ancient Roman had tour planners and travel guides the same way today tourists have. Secondly, during the Roman times people travelled for leisure in addition to looking for more innovations in the world. Today, most people also travel with an aim of discovering something new in order to become famous (Goeldner and Ritchie, 2012; 20-33).

Travelling today and during the Roman times has differences also. During the Roman times, the ancient Roman holiday lasted for two years where they travelled with a purpose of seeing where traditional Socrates lived. In addition, the Romans only toured specific places where Muslim religion dominated. Today’s travel lasts for not more than six months and tourists have the freedom of travelling to any destination of their choice. Moreover, travelling today is more secure because the current technology makes travelers aware of dangers associated with weather and insecurities while during the Roman times people had no prior information of the places they wanted to tour (Goeldner and Ritchie, 2012; 36-40).

Read Chapter 2. Specifically, select a job in the industry that would appeal to you and discuss its merits and challenges (business management).

Tourism today forms the world’s largest industry offering over million jobs every year. The most appealing job in the tourism industry is Tourism Technology job. Information technology is an important factor in the tourism industry today therefore; the industry requires more experts in the technology field. The provision of advanced tourist information through navigation systems and mobile phones is growing requiring more technical manpower in order for the managers to achieve their goals. Tourism technology job has both merits and demerits. To start with, this is one of the highly paying jobs in the industry due to little number of technological experts. In addition, the job is not very competitive in the job market as most people prefer being tourist guides and drivers in order to travel many places. Moreover, the Tourism Technology job enables a person gain more knowledge in the virtual world of technology by understanding various navigation systems, landmarks, and be able to communicate with prominent people from all across the world (Goeldner and Ritchie, 2012; 53-54).

On the other hand, Tourism Technology job has challenges as discussed below. Firstly, the experts are faced with hard tasks of getting navigations to various destinations especially during harsh weather conditions. In addition, technologists are responsible for the safety of tourists and are questionable in case the navigation systems fail while people are in the field. Moreover, tourism today involves online booking and technologists must ensure such services are available all the time to avoid inconveniencing travelers (Goeldner and Ritchie, 2012; 56-57).

Conduct a research for entry level management travel and tourism jobs and discuss your opinions of the positive and negative aspects of the job you find in the appropriate discussion board for assignment #3. Each person must post one job.

Management travel and tourism job requires an individual with a bachelor’s degree and at least three years experience in the tourism industry. In addition, the individual should have personal characters such as quality, commitment, work ethics, and flexible. The following position impacts an individual positively because it does not require a lot of mind work and a person can operate at any environment. On the other hand, this job requires only graduates and people with experience. This means fresh graduates must undergo internship for 3 years before being absorbed to the system (Goeldner and Ritchie, 2012; 63-67).

Travel and Exploration

Exploration is a search whose main objective is to discover information or the resources that would provide information. Some of the major explorers include Francisco Pizarro who explored the lands below Panama and Christopher Columbus who discovered South and North America though he believed that he was exploring Asia. Travel involves the movement of people or animals across two geographically distant locations. It is the travels that caused the movements and settlement of people both in the old and new times. For example Africans travelled to America as slaves and later on settled there.

My artwork is a replica of a primary source that most explorers found as they were conducting their exploration activities. A primary source is a source containing original materials. These materials have not been altered or distorted in any way and are still the same as they were found by the explorers. The artwork contains two major aspects. First of all, there are feathers in the diagram. Explorers are keen on such details when they are scouting around. Presence of feathers in the ground could portray a lot of ideas. The ideas range from existence of life forms that had feathers covering their bodies most likely birds to the existence of a community that has stayed in that piece of land that used the feathers in maybe carrying out cultural practices of making of clothes to cover their bodies. Some communities also used feathers to administer medication and some even used it as part of the ingredients so the feathers may portray the advancement in medicine from such barbarism to the modern kind of medicine as we know it.

The explorer, with the help of a zoologist and an archeologist, will then use the feathers to find out which bird they belong to. The patterns and structure of the feathers will enable the zoologist identify which bird they belong to. The feathers are blue in color so this would help in narrowing down the search to birds with blue feathers only. Archeological experience will then be used to carbon date the feathers and find out for how long have the feathers existed. This information can then be used in understanding history as various missing pieces of the puzzle would then have been patched together. Various theories have been echoed by explorers for instance Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. These theories are developed from primary materials such as the one included in the artwork and they go a long way towards helping the human race grasp their history better and use it to shape up their futures.

The theme of travel is also developed in this piece of artwork. At the margins of the feathers exists sand. Quick question, what is the first thing regarding travel that pops up on your mind when you see sand? Sandy beaches? The sand thus helps develop travel as a thematic concern as it fills the mind of the art viewer with ideas about travel and the pictures keep streaming in to their minds.

In summary, the artwork I have presented conveys the theme of travel and exploration. The piece of art is a replica of a primary document that was used by the explorers in coming up with ideas about our past. The material also sparks out ideas about travel and puts the viewer in a travelling mood.
