Glasow Fellowship Concerts
Glasow Fellowship Concerts was one of the most memorable concerts that happened last year. Unlike other fellowship concerts, this classical music concert shares the purpose of celebrating the music of Dr. Glenn Glasow. Dr. Glenn Glasow was a longtime musical player who also became a music scholar. It usually features alumni students, the faculty and students. Besides, the concert usually raises funds for a scholarship to a single student who accords the best performance.
The concert entailed an array of instruments and composers who lined up to give their creations. The instruments included wind instruments, drums, string instruments and other percussion instruments. It was notable that core instruments such as the guitar were electric. The beginning performances had acapella and solo pieces that captured the attention of the audience into the concert.
The acapella pieces represent the era in which Glasow started his performances. Glasow started on trumpets as his instruments would capture the silence of lone halls. This effect reflected in the concert as single performances involved individuals with single wind instruments. In the trumpet performances, there were majorly slightly varied tones that thrived on harmonious beats.
The hall was smaller as compared to standard sizes of halls that classical music concerts normally occur. This was attributable to the theme of the event that strove to celebrate the life of a prominent composer. In addition, the music strove to fit within the theme of charity. In this perspective, there were two players of trombone and violin respectively. The violin stretched into a long howl and moved back and forth to another long howl as the hall echoed. This slow repertoire set a new pace that the trombone followed as the two instruments exchanged notes.
The later theme of the orchestra performances were defined by harmony. In the movement of the notes, there were alternating mild dissonance and harmony that the instruments strove towards. The first orchestra performance described this attitude in their pieces that reflected the age of 1950’s. The 1950’s described a vital age in the development of classical music since the composers had started breaking rules. The rules were mostly guidelines that strove to define performances and compositions within distinct lines.
In the performances, it was difficult to classify the genres. However, there were considerable solo recitals and performances in individuals who showcased unique talents. It was observable that wind instruments dominated the performances. A unique instrument that the composers gave attention to was the Picasso. The performers could manipulate the Picasso to produce different moods and tones. The players could operate their Picassos to switch the moods of the audience from melancholy to ecstasy. A single player employed the trumpet in producing a limited range of tones and harmonies.
Notably, the performances concluded clarinet and piano performances. The piano made long and winding tones that defined the classical age of Vienna performances. The piano thrived on the harmony of lower and shrill tones that rung across the room and echoed back in wavy tones. The clarinet had the Chinese tone of a market day as it wound within its shrill ranges and tones. This tone failed to conform with the previous harmonious tones.
It is discernible that the performance strove towards distinct themes. The main themes were celebration and charity. While celebration reflected in the harmonious solo performances, charity reflected in the orchestra performances. On the other hand, the African drums reflected the theme of cultural voices as they shared significant dissonance.

In the article titled, confidence in the efficacy and safety of dietary supplements among United States active duty army personnel, Lieberman and Carvey (2012) observe that dietary supplements are used by the U.S. army soldiers to enhance their muscle strength and energy. According to a study that was conducted by Monroe (2012), dietary supplements such as green tea, fibre, and calcium supplements are also used for weight-loss purposes. Although the use of dietary supplements is prevalent among the local population there is limited scientific evidence to show that dietary supplements are effective and safe. This paper argues that when confronted with questions about dietary supplements, physicians are supposed to give their honest opinions.
Physicians should give an honest opinion in regard to the use of dietary supplements. The responsibility is based on the idea of medical humility. Medical humility is central to good doctoring, unpretentious openness, honest self-disclosure, evidence of the arrogance and modulation of self-interest (Coulehan, 2011). The effects of honesty and self-disclosure in medical practice were examined in a study that was conducted by Paine, McCarthy, MacFarlane,Thomas, Ahrens and Leroy (2010). The study had 151 participants and these participants were required to indicate their perceptions on whether physicians should engage in self-disclosure or not (Paine et al., 2010). The participants rated disclosing physicians more highly that the disclosing physician (Paine et al., 2010). The participants also indicated that a relationship with a disclosing doctor was more satisfying than with a non-disclosing physician (Paine et al., 2010). Based on these findings, it is important for the physicians inform their patients the potential benefits and adverse effects that are associated with dietary supplements.
Giving honest opinions is also important in order to protect the patients. Remember, unlike the conventional medicine, dietary supplements do not undergo rigorous testing and screening. In addition, a number of dietary supplements such as ephedrine are associated with serious adverse side effects. Dietary supplements could also be harmful if they are taken in large doses. Consequently, it is only rational for a physician to provide patients with this information in order to protect them from any potential harm.
Lack of knowledge is associated with worse quality of life and worse quality of care. It is the responsibility of the physicians to impart this knowledge to patients. Giving honest opinions is not limited to the use of dietary supplements. Physicians should also provide detailed information and honest opinions to patients about their prognosis and the effects the treatment will have on their illness. A number of studies have been conducted to examine the feelings of patients about honest communication. In such one study, Thomas, Lindsay, Enid, James Robin and Laurel (2011) used a sample of 27 patients. 20 of the participants indicated that knowledge was important in order to allow them to make informed choices (Thomas et al., 2011). This knowledge would also help them to develop management strategies that best concur with their personal goals and preferences (Thomas et al., 2011). Surprisingly, the participants indicated that physicians should divulge all information, whether good or bad (Thomas et al., 2011).
The issue of honest communication is examined by Irvine (2011) in the article, everyone is entitled to a good doctor. In Irvine’s view patients value doctors they can trust (2011). The sense of trust can be sustained by delivering both bad and good news. Irvine (2011) further observed that providing honest opinions decrease anxiety that is associated with ignorance and uncertainty.
In sum, the use of dietary supplements is a controversial issue bearing in mind there is no scientific evidence that support its efficacy in medical practice. When confronted with questions on the use of dietary supplements, physicians should give honest opinions in order to eliminate ignorance and uncertainty. Such an action is likely to positive outcomes including enhanced quality of life and care.

Given case information, how would you modify Trader Joe’s strategy going forward?
After Trader Joe’s Company was ranked as the 11th most innovative firm in United States of America, I took this opportunity to carry out a case study on this Company. There are internal activities of a firm that a firm engages in before transforming its inputs into outputs. The main aim of this activity is to reduce costs to favor its consumers or customers. Trader Joe Company has used different strategies to ensure that it favors its consumers in supplying their goods. The essay gives a case study of the Company and how I would modify Joe’s strategy going forward. This is by the use of Value Chain Analysis.
Many people have questions running on their head as to why Trader Joe’s company has gained much of popularity in the recent past. There are different strategies that this Company has implemented to ensure that it is in the forefront, in the United States market. First, the company offers products which are not found in other supermarkets such as black rice, sprouted wheat bread, and whole bean coffees. Employee welfare is an important aspect in every organization. Trader Joe’s pays good wages to its salary hence obtaining quality services from them.
Additionally, the company uses the traditional ways of advertisement where instead of using the Newspapers and radio it uses fearless flyers. These flyers contain information on the new products that have been introduced by the company. Their mode of advertising is also different where instead of professional actors appearing on their advertisements employees appear on their commercials. To promote sales on the new products they give ten per cent discount. Secrecy is also maintained within the company especially between its external publics this is to maintain a good relationship between the Company and its publics.
With the information on the case study above we are now able to ensure that Trader Joe’s company incorporates a strategy to ensure that it goes forward with its activities. The company should look into the valuable activities so as to provide competitive advantage. Notably, many people request the company to open branches in their areas. This shows that this company provides quality services that are why there is a high demand. In order to gain cost advantage, this step analysis activities are important.
Trader Joe Company should identify the support and primary activities. These services include selling and marketing. This activity mainly entails on how work should be done to deliver customer value. The other strategy is identifying the total cost of each activity in regards to the product for instance costs for labor intensive activities will be driven by factors like working hours, wage rate, the speed. Thus, these factors have to be considered when looking at the cost which drivers every activity. The company should also identify opportunities to reduce the costs. This is because reduction of the costs of cost drivers such as wages will lead to the reduction in price of the product.
In conclusion, establishing the links between the activities in the company is a very important aspect for instead reduction of cost in some of the activities many result to reduction of costs in subsequent activities. This means that, identifying the links between different activities may lead to the enlightenment of how costs improve thus affecting the whole value chain positively.
