1. Executive SummaryPrecast Concrete Company is a privately owned proprietorship that designs and manufactures three major precast concrete products: blocks, culverts, and kerbstones of various sizes and shapes. The company is located in the Nigerian capital of Abuja and it will operate as a small and medium enterprise (SME). The idea behind the business was advised by a dream that started some ten years back when the proprietor still worked as a top manager in one of the leading construction countries in the country. Banking on the experience he has gathered in the span of ten years he has been working with various construction companies, the proprietor chose the three precast concrete products due to the low costs involved in manufacturing them and most importantly, their relatively high returns.

The company will engage experienced and talented management team that will work closely with the proprietor in smoothly running key company operations. Other low level employees will also be required for the company to achieve its goals of becoming a prime precast concrete products manufacturer in Nigeria.

The largest chunk of the start-up capital will be contributed by the proprietor, with loans from a friend and a bank topping up the remaining chunk. For a start, the company will serve the small scale construction companies, residential estates developers, states agencies, as well as individual home developers within the city of Abuja. Again, there are very few precast concrete industries operating in the country, a thing that has occasioned some of the big construction companies to consider manufacturing the critical precast products on their own hence spending a lot of their time and money than it would have been if they outsourced the whole process.

The company envisions a smooth growth within the first two years of operation. As such, it will take time for it to win the confidence of bigger construction companies. 7.2. Sources of Capital

The proprietor will contribute 40 percent of the projected costs (N10, 686,000). Another 20 percent (N5, 343, 000) from a friend in form of a loan that will be paid back at the interest rate of 12 percent per year, with the remaining expenditure (N10,686, 000) being cushioned by a bank loan sourced from OCIENIC BANK PLC to be paid back at an interest rate of 18 percent per annum.

7.3. Financial Analysis and Projections

A market survey conducted by the proprietor among precast concrete industries in Nigeria shows that blocks of 15kn/mm2 strength cost at N250, while culverts of the same strength costs at N7, 000, and kerbstones with 25kn/mm2 strength cost at N200 per unit. However, these are prices offered by large multinational companies operating in the country meaning that those offered by SMEs are relatively lower.

Precast Concrete products will be priced at a relatively low price during the launch period: blocks will be sold at N230, culverts at N6, 800, and kerbstones at N180 so as to attract potential customers. However, after the end of the launch period the prices will be fixed at a level allowing a 25% profit margin. Ideally, this means that the post-launch returns will surpass the launch returns by 25 % and hence the company will be able to carter for all the operational costs and still realize profits.

In her article, Celia Lowe asks what it could mean to write about life beyond humans. She narrates her extensive research into the world of viruses, most notably the deadly influenza virus and the Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus. She documents that although virus plays a role in the existence of human beings, some can kill or comprise human and animal life (Lowe, 2017). Therefore, caring about dangerous viruses should mean acknowledging human activities that encourage viral thriving and those that destroy viruses causing diseases. This summary focuses on explaining the author’s discussion on the importance of studying and directly understanding viruses to capture the author’s formal tone and expository writing style. Lowe thoroughly and directly informs and explains to the readers the importance of viral ethnography. What if we experience another pandemic tomorrow? Will it have the same impact as Covid 19? Reading the article felt like reliving the experiences of 2020 when the global pandemic hit the world. On 31st December 2019, the first case of Corona Virus was reported in Wuhan, China, my home country; the following days were challenging, stressful, and full of anxiety and anticipations. The outbreak came when I was preparing to go back to school for the Spring term; this meant traveling out of the country that seemed impossible at the time. A few weeks later, my government and my destination country banned international traveling as one of the measures for containing the Corona Virus spread. Initially, it felt like a one-month postponement, but as the number of positive cases and the death toll increased, reality set in; maybe we are never going back to schools. It was emotional reading the article as the world still feels the impact of the global pandemic, and the memories of friends and relatives we lost during the pandemic are still fresh. Lowe writes, “Viruses receive extra attention and motivate social action when they exhibit the capacity to kill or compromise human and animal life.” I like this quote; it serves as a reminder and a warning to individuals globally to respond swiftly in case of an outbreak and not wait until they face the epidemic’s impact to act. In the beginning, countries downplayed the seriousness of the Corona Virus, which is among the reasons the pandemic hit the world severely.

Task 2: Analysis of “We don’t harvest animals; we kill them” Agricultural Metaphors and the Politics of Wildlife Management in the Yukon by Paul Nadasdy

Paul documents that individuals’ language when referring to wildlife determines their relationship with them in his article. He refers to the most debatable question in most wildlife discussions “do we harvest or kill wildlife?” In his submission, he suggests that the language people use to refer to wildlife is structured by metaphors. These metaphors lead to a different understanding of wildlife management, its goals, and appropriate wildlife management methods (Nadasdy, 2011). He extensively discusses the First Nation people metaphor that views wildlife management as the maintenance of social relations and the wildlife biologist’s metaphor that views wildlife management as agriculture and the overlap between these metaphors through a case study of Aishihik wolf kill. This summary explains Paul’s discussion on the impact of language on individuals’ relationship with wildlife and their understanding of wildlife management in a direct manner to capture Paul’s assertive tone and expository writing style. In the article, Paul conveys his message directly and honestly, successfully explaining to readers the structured metaphors wildlife biologists and First Nation People use to refer to wildlife. Hunting seasons are a period people look up to; for hunters, it is a time to hit the woods and relive their hunting experience, and for non-hunters, it is a time to remind the world of the importance of conserving wildlife. The article mirrors an incident I witnessed between my brother and father years ago. My father loves hunting, and every hunting season, he narrates to us the events of the past seasons. I clearly remember when he and my brother fought over what my brother termed insensitive conversation. My father was describing his first day killing an antelope and how he felt victorious, and my brother accused him of being cruel and normalising killing. In his defense, he told my brother being honest and factual is not being insensitive or disrespectful. To him saying “killing an antelope” was presenting facts. The article was insightful, and reading it made me question animal hunting sport. Should animal hunting sport be banned? Is animal hunting sport necessary? Environmentalists continue to warn people on the rise of animal species extinction and the need for individuals to contribute to wildlife conversation. Paul writes, “We don’t harvest animals; we kill them.” I like this quote as it reminds people that if you can engage in the act, then be bold enough to acknowledge it. The word harvest softens the act of killing wildlife and makes it sound more acceptable in society.

The abuse and fraud that may be possible due to the use of social media is to be avoided with media liability reform that requires enactment of national standards for electronic medical care.

The basic reason for the establishment to the HIPAA act was to create confidentiality procedures within and beyond healthcare facilities and keeping medical information safe to individual level. The HIPAA act cover all workers in private or public medical units, medical students, electronic medical record keeping companies and all non-patient personnel working in the health facilities. The HIPAA act protects information such as name, street address, telephone numbers, and email address among others that has an identifier kink to a specific patient. The act furthermore has exceptions regarding injuries from a crime, abuse, infectious or communicable diseases among others. Written or spoken or electronic data and its transmission within or outside the facility are protected. The act protects several types of data including software and hardware among others. The penalty of violating the HIPAA act for the offense done with the intent to sell or transfer a patient’s identifiable medical information for monetary gain or malicious damage the penalty is up to 250,000 us dollars. For the disclosure of individual identifiable information of a patient the cost is up to us dollars 50,000 while non corrected violation attracts up to us dollars 50000 per violation (Edmekong, 2020).

Other than the HIPAA act is illegal to post, tag photos of fans or other people without their permission. The permission should be written before tagging or posting photos of you with other people or other people’s photos on Facebook pages. This clearly goes against the privacy rules of nearly all social media platforms.

From the scenario in the case study, the night shift nurse due to boredom and absent mindedness took pictures of her with Jerrod the singer and accidentally forgot her phone in the clinic as she was leaving the next morning. The day shift nurse took the phone and sold the photos to the gossip gazette thinking that her identity would be untraced. The two cases are similar in a way but also different in another. The night shift nurse chose to bypass the rules of the healthcare facility by taking pictures of her with an unconscious patient thus breaking the very rules for privacy. The night shift nurse was overtaken by the thought of fulfilling her absentia at the party by giving prove of being with Jerrod. That was totally unprofessional.

The day shift nurse takes the photos and with her greed and lack of concern for her fellow employee and the facility decides to sell them to the gazette. In this case its clear to point out that the rules and regulations for privacy of the patients were either not known to these two nurses at all or they didn’t make any impact on them of what would happen if the photos they took with the singer would cost them their jobs and render the clinic unfit for any other patient.

The night shift made a gross mistake by taking those photos which she would say it was out of desperation. However, the day shift nurse worsened the crime by being selfish and inconsiderate about the fate of her fellow worker and her employer. The HIPAA act states the rules regarding patient privacy; the focus of the statute is to create confidentiality systems within and beyond healthcare facilities (Kassebaum–Kennedy Act). This should be clearly stated and frequently reminded to the employee through posters and during meetings. Customer confidentiality should be instilled into every worker be it health care employee or non-healthcare employee working in the facility.

This study case apart from it being important to our research does not limit us not to consider other merit and demerits for the use of technology. The positive impact of technology and in particular the social media platforms are a good count. Improved or enhanced networking professional education being the first. Interaction and information sharing on Facebook pages can be helpful to health care professionals when need to consultations arise. Patient education is also another positive impact of these social sites. Patients get numerous information regarding clinics, medical practitioners and medication from these sites which is quite helpful. Online doctors treat their patients remotely through online communications. Live Health Online, Connect Med, Doctors on Call among others are online treating and consulting health care platforms. Furthermore, some online doctors provide online patient care through the net and also perform public health programs through their websites or blog pages. These are just but positive impacts that the social media interactions sites have provided for the health care sector.

There are risks however that come in with the social media interactions of the medical personnel and members of the public. Damaging of professional image may happen when information about a facility or personnel is released on an ill motive (Bryan, 2020). The information may be true or not regardless this will tarnish the image of that facility like in our case. Some information posted on these sites may breach patient privacy. This may be intentional or otherwise but if the information is private it would be professional for it to remain so.

The above discussion takes us back to adhering to the rules and regulations regarding the medical practicing personnel. Personal issues should not take control of our professions regardless of the excuse one would have. It is also an obligation that the healthcare management has to consider reminding their workers of the standards required of them in the profession. Technology is a very vital tool and will have a great impact on health care service delivery worldwide but this will only happen when the people in the health sector take it positively without any selfish interests included. Otherwise cases like this in case study will recur now and then.
