The Country and the City
“The Country and the City” is a famous New York documentary film by Ric Burns which covers the discovery and rise of the New York as a state. It takes the development of New York at a commercial scope that was boosted by the completion of the Erie Canal in the year 1825. It significantly examines the vital role played by the Dutch it determining and developing the character of the city as well as the establishment of the Stock Exchange trade. Also, the documentary profoundly talks about the impacts postulated by the British empires and practitioners of slavery as well as the memorable role played by the New York in enhancing the revolution in America and its precise tenure as the capital city of the nation (Burns, et al. 1999). In this paper, “The Country and the City” is discussed into an in-depth extent in consideration of how the film expresses the sense of belonging, its argument position as well as how the real New York city came into being and the things that were put in place that still exist up to date.
The film adapts a unique structure that gives the audience clear picture of how the New York City was established in 1609. It significantly gives a sense of belonging with regards to the City’s position today and the revolution of United States. New York is among the superpower cities in the nation in consideration of its social-economic position and technology advancement. It is in the film that the city is showed as the fundamental base of the commercial trade commonly practiced at the New York Stock Exchange. It indicates that since the early days the city has been essentially contributing to the gross domestic product of the country. It is important in enhancing economic stability in the nation which is also contributed by its geographical position.
The film contains the part of Erie Canal as an important site to the growth of the New York as well as stimulation of the nation’s revolution. The completion of the Erie Canal is postulated as a basic thing in enhancing the development of the New York City and also the country (Reitano, 2018). During that error, the Erie Canal crossed the New York state from the city of Buffalo on the Lake Erie to Troy and Albany on the Hudson River. It is at the New York City that the Hudson River get its channels into the Atlantic Ocean. Therefore, the canal joined great lakes within the Atlantic Ocean as well as opening transport and communication network which are vital in enhancing the nation’s growth and development. It significantly enhanced expansion of the New York City and the United State nation strong during the early decades.
Furthermore, Ric Burns appropriately applies styles in the movie giving it a higher rank and fame worldwide. They play an essential role in laying the base argument of Ric Burns as the author of “The Country and the City” documentary. For instance, the themes, setting, plot, fiction and figurative language among many other literary devices are well applied giving the film validity in explaining the New York history up to today. Among the key themes include capitalism and commerce, creativity and transformation as well as democracy and diversity. Commerce being conducted by the Dutch was the fundamental foundation of the city’s development where the British colony carried out slavery trade and the New Amsterdam was not restrictive of the trade and business opportunities.
The development of the Erie Canal signifies the transformation of the city from national networking to international diversification that is vital in enhancing its development. The themes greatly develop the plot of the episode and properly take the audience through the evolution and development of the film. The setting of the movie significantly builds a clear picture of the New York City during that era and how it developed after several decades. For instance, the structures and facilities of the city advance with time and development of amenities such as the Erie Canal and commercialization. The film is set in the geographical locale of the city which enables the audience to view and compare the odd New York to the modern city with regards to its advancement (Sanchez, 2014). In the film’s argument, the author put across that the City came into the New York through modernization and diversification of the market globally which significantly developed its economic status. It further postulates that abandonment of the unethical commerce such as slave trade and adoption of viable opportunities plays a significant role in its growth and stability position today.
Since the period of the initial New York, viable seeds were established whose products blossoms up to date. The investors and innovators had a mind of the future generations thus put in plays sound plans and ventures that had positive short and long-term impacts on the nation. For instance, consider projects such as the development of the Erie Canal and the New York Stock Exchange (Burns, et al. 1999). They are examples of the investments meant for the New York and will at all the time remain the top revenue generators to the nation not only today but also to the future generation.
As discussed above, “The Country and the City” episode is an important historical documentary to the New York both as a city and a state. Ric Burns gives us an elaborate illustration of how New York has advanced into a modern place with adequate technology and economic development. However, it is the role of the government and citizens at the individual level to keep its position and even make efforts to make New York a better place.

The Counseling Profession-Discussion
As an individual with a profession in counseling, my long-term career is to have skills and knowledge that will help me make better decisions in life both in my profession and in my personal life. One of my main long-term objectives is to set up my clinic for counseling patients. I have always wanted to venture into private practice in the future. I feel that it will grant me an opportunity to make a real difference in society. I have always been passionate about mental health, and starting my private practice will give me a purpose in my career. Another long-term goal is earning a new degree or degree. I am an advocate of continuous self-improvement, and I love keeping myself busy at all times. I would like to earn a post-graduate diploma in either Clinical Psychology or Community Mental Health. I want to broaden my scope in psychology studies as it will help me to understand my students better. Additionally, it is my hope that in the future, after I set my clinic, I will provide free consultation sessions for people in dire need of counseling. It is my way of giving back to society as it is an opportunity for me to make real change.
Counseling as a program of study takes about four years to complete. It is intense training that incorporates strong humanistic values and awareness in its training. The coursework of counseling programs includes psychology, statistics, sociology, research techniques, and counseling techniques. Additionally, in the course of the training, students are taught about human development, counseling theories, and behavior and learning disorders. Moreover, counseling students are taught about counseling ethics. They are trained about the dos and don’ts of the professional. Here, they learn that dual relationships are prohibited in the profession because they can hinder the patient’s recovery process.
Earning a degree in counseling will benefit my current position at Catholic Charities as it will help me develop interpersonal skills. Interpersonal skills are helpful because they keep me informed about who I am and what makes me tick. Interpersonal skills are helpful because they will help me take a step back to reflect and analyze my behaviors and feelings. This will help me in my day-to-day duties because as I handle our clients, I will be able to give them the best advice they need to improve their lives. Going through this program is also beneficial because it is helping me hone my communication skills that are critical in client engagement and interaction. I will be better placed to listen to the client, observe their emotions and give a correct diagnosis.
Yes, without a doubt, a field placement internship is a prerequisite for completing my degree in counseling. Going for practicum prepares students for the real world profession. It exposes students to the actual life of a counselor, and it reinforces their decision to have a career in that field. After graduation, students can work with real patients and use all the skills and knowledge gained. I have already started making plans for my internship placement. I have a few institutions in mind that I would like to work with. I am yet to make a decision as regards the exact institution where I will do my internship. I have also started networking with counseling professions to broaden my chances of getting an internship. I am targeting renowned institutions because I stand to learn a lot from the people there. I also intend on networking with professionals during my internship placement in the hopes of identifying a mentor to hold my hand in my journey as a counselor.
Political Risks In 2012

Introduction
As the year 2012, begins it should be noted that political risks reign global headlines in an unprecedented manner. In every segment of the global economic scene concerns rise over gridlocked, insular, or fractured politics that affect the market. A continuance of the politically driven upheaval in the euro zone appears guaranteed.
Political Risks In 2012
Ironically, political risk in contemporary times has grown to be so trendy that its consequences are now normally overstated. Therefore, the great challenge, for political analysts as well as corporate investors and decision-makers, is in cautiously considering the risks in a globe of ever-increasing data, information, and commentary. In this regard, the Middle East and G-zero should be accorded top priority risk for the year 2012 (Eurasia Group 4).
The Middle East and G-zero. The Middle East and G-zero should be accorded top priority risk for the year 2012. The G-Zero in this case refers to the unwillingness or inability of the leading world powers to assume new burdens and risks. The United Nations notes that, in this region, there are numerous unresolved sectarian, religious, as well as ethnic tensions. It is also imperative to consider the continuing nonexistence of a feasible regional security structure, at the heart of ongoing protests, long-standing autocracies at risk and colossal challenges facing the recent democratic regimes (4).
Note that, the U.S may not depart from the region soon. However, moribund US leverage generates a gap in peripheral political engagement, security provision, and economic support. This is at a time of outstanding geopolitical volatility in the region. It is worthwhile to note that Turkey assumes the role of the contemporary Islamic model for democracy, economic dynamism, and modernism. On the contrary, Saudi Arabia, desires to develop the power of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to counteract America’s pressure for speedy reform, particularly in the Middle East monarchies (4).
There is a mounting danger for Israel, too. The Arab Spring has created a gush of populism across the Middle East, roiling Israel’s associations with Jordan, Turkey, and Egypt. In the meantime, Israel has little assurance in support from its global allies including the U.S. Ally fatigue, an increasing feeling of seclusion, and Iran’s proposal to shift its nuclear program to bomb-resistant underground locations make an Israeli hit on Iran increasingly thinkable, although currently unlikely, particularly in the face of Iran’s provocations. In addition, it undermines negotiation efforts with Palestine, opening up likelihood for more bloodshed, within Lebanon and Israel.
In Syria, there are little prospects of constructive negotiations between the opposition and Assad. In regard to this leadership struggle, the Arab League may extend Assad’s regime without creating a credible solution to the calamity. In Iraq, bigger sectarian conflict is currently filling the vacuity left by the departure of American troops. Earlier trends in the direction of mutual accommodation have overturned, and Shia-Sunni tensions are yet again on the rise. As the events unfold, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Iran, each seek more influence in the region (4).
CONCLUSION
No key player external to the region will move in to fill this void. This scenario would leave three major regional players namely Turkey, Iran, and Saudi Arabia in the current Middle East predicament. This is because external actors have little enthusiasm for intervention, and there is practically no prospect of regional collaboration to resolve these problems. Paradoxically, that is the real dilemma. That is why the United Nations requires considering an intervention in the Middle East and G-zero predicaments as a matter of urgency.
