Poem analysis- Go Down, Moses by Louis Armstrong
Poem analysis- Go Down, Moses by Louis Armstrong
I am working on Go Down, Moses, American Folksong. I chose this poem because it is easy to understand. The poem is very educative in that it has religious facts. The poem is two in one. It uses the first part to symbolize the second part. The first part is the life of Israelites in the life of bondage in Egypt. On the other hand, the second part is the life of Christians in bondage of the Devil. The Canaan which is the destination for Israelites is used symbolically to represent eternal life in the second part of the poem. I would like my instructor to identify my strength and weaknesses. According to me, I have done the work to my best.
Sincerely,
Go Down, Moses
The setting of the story is the life of the people of Israel in bondage. God commissions Moses to tell pharaoh to let His people go. God as a master is caring about his subjects and is not impressed with the life Israelites live in Egypt. It is said that Israelites are oppressed and live a hard life in Egypt. In the poem, God confronts pharaoh through Moses which means that He is more powerful than him. We also deduce from the poem that Moses is a servant of God. God speaks to Pharaoh and Israelite through Moses. Moses is also loyal to God. This is seen when he does not object to perform Gods mission. The repetition of “Go down, Moses”, reveals a lot about the situation in Egypt. It implies that Pharaoh is a dictator and cannot easily allow the Israelites to get away from Egypt (Mathew, p. 234). Therefore, the repetition is meant to encourage Moses to face Pharaoh.
We also deduce that God punishes those who do not obey His orders. He threatens that He would kill the firstborns if Pharaoh does not allow Israelites to get away. God seems to be fed up with the bondage life of Israelites. The poem reveals that Israelites were not living a good life there and were being oppressed. The repetition of “Let my people go” shows that God is not ready to compromise his decision. In addition, He does not give a chance for negotiation. The poet terms Egypt to be “proud”. This means that they looked down upon Israelites as well as discriminated them. Israelites were not in their land but they had their home (Mathew, p. 43). The poem does not explain what led Israelites to be in Egypt. It can be deduced that one can be tortured in a foreign land. Israelites lack freedom while living in Egypt. It is shown that they are under the control of Pharaoh while they are in Egypt.
We realize from the poem that God trusts Moses. He commissions Moses and Aaron to lead Israelites. The poem portrays God as a supernatural being and cannot just speak to anybody but speaks to the selected people. As the leader, Moses uses instructions given to him by God. God tells him to take his rod and stretch it on the sea. This is done to enable Israelites to cross the Red sea. The God in the poem is a miraculous God. He orders for extraordinary events. For instance, Moses stretches the rod and water separates to give way for Israelites to pass (Wagner, p. 89). The use of extraordinary events in the poem is meant to show that God is a supernatural being and has special powers. Pharaoh is depressed about the departure of Israelites; he says that he wants to follow them. God assures Moses that they would not get lost. He promises to guide them using a cloud in the wilderness. Pharaoh could not succeed in going after Israelites. He and his people get lost because they do not receive guidance from the supernatural being. It revealed that the destined home for Israelites is the land of Canaan.
The poem then suddenly shifts to include Christians as characters. It relates the life of Israelites in bondage to that of Christians in the world. For Christians, there is a different leader. God uses Christ to deliver Christians from the life of bondage in the world. The statement “What a beautiful morning that will be……When life breaks up in eternity” shifts the destination (Mathew, p. 67). For Israelites, the destination was Canaan, while for Christians, the destination is eternity. The master of bondage for Israelites is Pharaoh while the master of bondage for Christians is the devil.
The poem relates two different groups of people, the Israelites and Christians. Otherwise, they share one master who cares for them. The poem also reveals that qualifying for the Promised Land in Christianity is not automatic (Wagner, p. 56). One has to make some decisions to enjoy eternal life. Removing of shoes is symbolic. It means dropping of worldly pleasures as well as sin. Canaan is used in two ways in the poem. The first use is that it is the real Promised Land for Israelites. The second use of Canaan is as a symbol for the Promised Land to Christians which is eternal life.

Applying Cybersecurity at the State and Local Government Level
Applying Cybersecurity at the State and Local Government Level
Response
Cybersecurity is one of the essential aspects of an institution due o the rising cases of cyberattacks (de Bruijn & Janssen, 2017). Your introduction about cybersecurity in state and local government is incredible as it is easy to relate, using the examples you provided. State and local governments hold highly important information; hence cybersecurity ensures protection of the system and the information in it hence protected users. The Mat-Su Borough and city of Valdez are some of the world’s known cyberattacks that have occurred in history hence mentioning them in the introduction highlights the contents of the essay. Mat-Su as declared the worst of its kind of cyber-attacks, with its recovery value exceeding $2 million (Hollander, 2018), which shows the losses that an institution can incur due to cyberattacks. Other than the two incidents, the state of Alaska also underwent a cyberattack caused by the gaps identified in the cybersecurity system. The gaps provided an opportunity for cyberattacks to find a way through to the system. The introduction shows the importance of cybersecurity to an institution and how it can help prevent losses; as a result of a loss of information.
The state and local government agencies hold essential information about the public and the governments, which they use to run the states. Therefore, losing such information may compromise their actions in providing services and normal government operations. I support your comment that the DHS and the federal government should work to ensure the cybersecurity of the state and local government agencies as well as the public-private relationships. The collaboration would quickly ensure that the technological system being used in the agencies are highly protected from attacks and that the risks are prevented or easily identified by the staff. The security of the people depending on the state and local government depends on the safety of the information stored in the systems used in running the specified government agencies.I also think that the development of technology has made it easier for the prevention and mitigation of cyber risks to occur. Technological methods, such as artificial intelligence has been proven to help in mitigating threats in the IoT system (“Artificial Intelligence is key cybersecurity weapon in the IoT era: Research – ET CIO”, 2018). Therefore, institutions that use the internet of things could integrate its system with artificial intelligence hence any threats that occur are identified early enough and prevented before causing ham to the institution.
Also, just as the Mat-Su incident led to the implementation of procedures and policies to reduce risks, the local government require such regulations and also a provision of cyber education training to employees. The state government has a role to play in protecting the cybersecurity of critical infrastructure in the state (State of the States: The Role of State Governments in Protecting the Cybersecurity of Critical Infrastructure, 2019). However, to accomplish the role, the state government itself needs to have protected its information and put measures to prevent cyberattacks. Exposure to risks by the state government would lead to exposure to the critical infrastructure hence increasing the exposure to threats. Cybersecurity in state and local government helps to protect sensitive information, hence reducing the exposure to cyberattacks that may lead to losses in the future.

ESSEX COUNTY COURTHOUSE.
The Essex County Courthouse are historic structures found located at 32 HYPERLINK “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Street_District” o “Federal Street District” Federal Street in Salem, Massachusetts. They serve as the largest and busiest trial courts in New Jersey with up to about 60 judges and 1100 other staff members. These courts serve the 798,301 citizens of Essex County who happen to live in the 22 municipalities in an area covered by 127.44 square miles. Some of the importance of the Essex County Courthouse are the formation of the court authorized nonprofit organization which works via specially trained and supervised personnel through volunteering to promote children welfare in Essex County. These children, pulled away from their homes as a result of child abuse, having being neglected or abandoned are taken care of by the Essex County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA).
Essex County has close to over 3000 children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned by their families. CASA, serving as the foster child’s “voice in court” works to ensure services needed and assistance are provided while helping to move the children to safe and permanent homes. The nonprofit organization goes ahead to provide information to Family Court judges through use of trained volunteers to investigate and unearth the background of foster care cases plus make recommendations to the judges that will help a great deal in moving children much faster to safer and permanent residences. CASA volunteers remain diligently focused on the needs of children for permanent placement until that need is actualized notwithstanding whether the plan is aimed at reunifying the child with its parents, placement with relatives/kin or adoption.
The Essex County Courthouse comprises of the Vicinage Probation Division which in most instances acts as an enforcement arm for the court and plays an important in accomplishment of various missions for the court. Fair and just dispute resolutions are obtained only when court orders are fully put in to enforcement but again fairly. Citizens rights to safety and property are fully protected by proper supervisory works of probationers in the communities we live in. probation thus promotes children, family and New Jersey community welfare through enforcement of court orders, offenders supervisions, monitoring of behaviors and interventions for positive results. The probation division of the Essex County Courthouse takes care of more than 15,000 court cases plus takes speciality in cases like Adult Intake, Pre-Trial Intervention, Supervisory Treatment, Sex offenders, domestic violence, drug court. Essex County probation officers collect more than $2.5 million annually as part of court-imposed fees.
The Essex County Courthouse is made up of colonial history architectural structures. It has helped the entire county to be designated as the Essex National Heritage Area by the National Park Service. Areas surrounding the County Courthouse have been preserved due to their significance nationally, acting as tourist attraction sites and by extension earning the county with lots of revenues collected. Examples include;

The Essex County Courthouse has been used by many scholars as a study and training centre for carrying out research work. That aside, practicing law students have been using Essex County Courthouse as a learning centre. Many have passed through the courtrooms during their internships in a bid to familiarize themselves with court rules and proceedings in order to boost their class knowledge. Essex County Courthouse has created a lot of employment opportunities to hundreds of thousands of residents. The neighboring community has benefitted a lot by virtue of the fact that the court is within reach. Being the largest in Essex County and most dependable in New Jersey state, Essex Courthouse serves so many people who do not have to travel long distances I their quest for justice. Similarly, people from all walks of life can be accommodated in to the court via the nonprofit making organization CASA as part of volunteering. Through the court, CASA helps to take care and more so provide better, future life to children abused, abandoned or being mistreated in one way or the other. This in turn helps boost community confidence in the judicial system and provides a lot of care for children with the aim of seeing them prosper and have a better future. With the large number of judges, there are no court delays or rather cases are not delay when it comes to delivery of justice to the citizens. In most instances, punishments rendered to offenders are for corrective measures to help them understand what offence they committed was against the law and that the court is only out to correct their behavior to fit the society in order to allow for co-existence with other citizens and people in the community. Through its corporate social responsibility (CSR), Essex County Courthouse helps the community in so many ways. It has come up with CASA and helped provide employment to the people in the community, it has built public amenities such as schools, hospitals, public toilets to help the many people around the county. Roads have been put on check and so have been behaviors of many people who would have gone ahead to break the law to a larger extent. From time to time, Essex County Courthouse has had public sessions in which people have been briefly taught about the constitution, their rights especially that to safety and protection in order to help them from falling short to many problems.
In conclusion, the Essex County Courthouse has played a major and vital role for the inhabitants of Essex County and New Jersey at large. Should each county get to this level, many of the problems and issues experienced by communities will be a thing of the past as developments and sharing, together shall prevail among anything else and help to promote the justice system, our culture and our future and that of the many children to come.
