History and culture

Historical significance can be termed as an evaluation process used to determine what was significant about designated events in the past for example; people, developments and war. Therefore it can be said that historical significance is a way of gauging the importance of an event that happened in the past.

The civil war in America in the year 1861 to 1865 is of historic significance. This critical time in history is recalled as the war fetched unity for all the states of the United States of America. This particular period brought some people to the limelight including the late presidents, Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Jackson. It is during this period that the liberation war against slavery in the southern states was initiated (Rorabaugh, 2007). Consequently this war can be termed as of historic significance to the United States of America. Some aspects of American reconstruction can also be incorporated here as it entails the efforts done to rebuild and reunite USA after the civil war.

The Mesoamerican civilization is also a historic significance. This is a civilization that happened centuries ago. These civilizations are believed to have given rise to the current Americas (Rorabaugh, 2007). Some of today’s developments can be attributed to this age. Although little recorded information about this age, it is of great significance in the origin perspective. Some artifacts of these civilizations including that of the Olmec and Mayans are still traceable. Some of the agricultural practices invented during this age are in use up to date.

The American Revolution is another historical significance. This is the period that occurred in the better half of the 18th century in the North America continent. Most of the continents countries were still under the British colonial rule. This period is reminisced as it brought political freedom to the North American countries. The period is also highly recalled as the birth of the United States of America can be attributed to it.

2-Cultural evolution over the decades

The USA culture has evolved by a great deal over the decades especially between the20th and the 21st century. On the family perspective, between 1900 and 1940s the extended family was embraced by most families. In the 21st century extended families have been dumped by most people. During the 1900s to 1940s most marriages were cultural or religious. A few numbers of divorces were experienced. In the 21st century most marriages are civil and divorces have become so frequent. Gay marriage has also been on the rise in the 21st century (Rorabaugh, 2007).

Transportation has developed over the period. In the period between 1900 and 1909, railroads were the main mode of transport. Water transport was also used widely in this decade both for people and cargo transport. In the 1930 the vehicle industry developed. This resulted in many people using road transport. The air industry also grew by great deal in this period. The elite adopted air transport as a means of transport. During the 2000-2009 transport has experienced a burst with all forms of inventions. Use of speed boats, electric trains, jets has made access to all points globally possible (Rorabaugh, 2007).

The entertainment sector has also experienced a burst. In the 1900s there were relatively few entertainment companies. The media industry was not well developed. Most media houses were owned by the state governments. From 1930s media houses have sprout all over with most being privately owned. The film industry has grown to become the largest in the world.

Generally, all aspects of the USA culture have evolved over time especially with the onset of modern technology.

Physician assistants (PAs) play a crucial role in the healthcare industry.

Physician assistants (PAs) play a crucial role in the healthcare industry. They help patients access quality medical care and provide direct care to all patients. Healthcare facilities across the country rely on PAs to provide primary health care to patients. Primary care involves patient education, health promotion, health maintenance, disease prevention and diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses. Patient education is one of my motivations for becoming a physician assistant. One of my family members was diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus growing up. At the time, none of us fully understood this illness, and as a result, our ability to manage this condition was hampered. As an intern and volunteer in various health facilities, I repeatedly noticed that most patients and their families did not understand the diagnosis they were given. For instance, while working at Empire City Laboratory, I met a patient with kidney failure due to diabetes complications. As I interacted with the patient, I quickly realized that he lacked information about his condition and was therefore not aware of the complications that could arise if he did not follow his doctor’s advice. I provided him with information about his condition and educated him on ways he could better manage his health.

Another motivation for becoming a physician assistant is health promotion. Health promotion involves the introduction of interventions that enable people to take control of their health. One way physician assistants promote health is by creating an environment that promotes health and healing. As PAs constantly interact with patients, they must create environments that prioritize the patient’s well-being and health. Addressing the patient’s concerns creates a healing environment and promotes health. While working at the New York-Presbyterian Methodist hospital, I often shadowed various specialties as they checked on their patients’ progress. During one of these rounds, a patient that had just emerged from surgery expressed concerns that the pain he felt was an indicator that the surgery had not completely gotten rid of his problem. In response, the physician assistant I was shadowing that day listened to all the patient’s concerns, and in a calm voice, explained to the patient that the pain he was experiencing was due to the surgery itself. The way the PA handled this tense situation proves that PAs impact patients’ experiences.

Personal experience has also motivated me to become a PA. I grew up in a low-income family and we could not afford proper medical care. One of my family members was diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus. Due to the high medical fees needed, we could not provide him with the care he needed, and his condition got worse. Over time, PAs have gained experience working with underprivileged communities without medical insurance. PAs can educate their patients on alternative medical coverage options that ensure all people access quality healthcare. Given my low-income background, I hope to use the position of a PA to equip my patients with information on alternative medical coverage that can help meet their financial needs.

Lastly, I believe that my skills align with the skills needed in a PA. I have strong communication and interpersonal skills, traits necessary to become a successful PA. As physician assistants constantly interact with their patients, it is important that they effectively communicate and listen to their patients’ concerns. The time I have spent working and volunteering in various health facilities has provided me with first-hand experience on how I can navigate challenging and stressful situations. Patients deal with complex health problems that affect their emotional, mental, and physical well-being. As they are prone to outbursts, PAs must remain calm in these stressful situations and offer the patients compassion and understanding. I am detail-oriented, a quality necessary in PAs as they need to accurately note down patients’ conditions and prescribe the correct dosage. I am also a team player and can work with minimal supervision. PAs and doctors cannot be side by side all the time. Therefore, PAs need to carry out their duties with minimal supervision.

Good health is key to the well-being and prosperity of individuals and communities. As a PA, I hope to contribute to the healthcare and well-being of my patients and society at large. I am committed to promoting affordable healthcare, as I will ensure all my patients can access quality medical care regardless of their economic background. I believe that I possess the qualities and skills needed to become a great PA. Granted this opportunity, I will ensure that I can help as many people as possible receive quality healthcare.

Apple Inc. Brand Development

Creating a personal brand is one of the best things that a company can do to help identify their businesses from competitors. For this assignment, I chose Apple Inc. as a business that has established its brand. Apple Inc. is an American multinational technology company that has its headquarters in Cupertino, California. The company design, develops and sells consumer electronics, computer software as well as online services. Apple Inc., as a brand, stood for change; it was a technological revolution. In 1997, most of the business world referred to Apple computers as toys that were incapable of real computing. However, this was not the case. Apple Inc. has been the most successful brand in the United States and across the world. Its innovative techniques have continued to overdo competitive firms, which makes Apple a leading company.

Apple’s brand is based on its logo, which has been used for marketing the company. Semiotics refers to the study of how meaning can be derived from symbols and signs, and this is one of the strategies that provide a more in-depth insight into the understanding of brand management and brand loyalty. The symbolic representation that the brand depicts tends to affect how a consumer recalls, internalizes, and relates to the company’s performance based on their experiences with the company’s products. Apple Inc. has developed two logos since its formation and which have been drastically different from one another. Despite the differences, the two brands share the sign of an apple. The original design was designed by Ronald Wayne, which involved a portrait of Sir Isaac Newton sitting under a tree waiting for a tree to fall from above, and this was how he discovered gravity. In this case, the Apple Inc. logo was designed to signify discovery, innovation, and the notion of thought. Apple Inc. is based on the foundation of discovery. Therefore, the logo was a perfect representation of what the company stood for in terms of service and product delivery to its customers.

The initial logo was deemed complicated, and this meant that there was a need to make it more comprehensible. Apple Inc.’s mission is rooted on the basis of simplification of technology for everyday life, and this made the company to come up with a new design. Based on this, the company came up with a fun and creative logo that would appeal to the customers providing them with a clue of what the company is all about. In 1977, Rob Janoff developed the rainbow apple symbol, which up to date, is still recognized. The apple in the bible is a depiction of the forbidden fruit from the garden of Eden. A bite from the apple represents a bite from the tree of knowledge. Therefore, it symbolizes Apple Inc. as a young company that is ready for change and to challenge the world and the promise of knowledge that all Apple users may gain from purchasing and using the product. Therefore, Apple Inc.’s brand is rooted in the Apple fruit, and this has been used in selling the company’s products.

Other than the company’s logo, another right thing about Apple Inc. is that it deals with technology that directly relates to everyone in society. Apple deals with some of the products that include smartphones, TVs, computers, tablets, and laptops. All of these products are used daily by many clients, which means that consumers relate to the company’s products from different walks of life. At this era of technological advancement, most people have become computer literate, and this means that they are capable of not only using a smartphone, but computers are also a basic need for all, including students. Despite the large markets across the globe, Apple Inc. still has continued to keep its promise of providing the best user experience on quality products, and this explains why it has been a top priority for a large number of customers.

Although Apple Inc. has many positive attributes, the company also has some negatives that keep pushing the customers away. One of the negative attributes associated with Apple Inc. is that its products are extremely expensive. The company has been raising its prices unbelievably and release a carbon copy of their previous model. Based on this, a slight modification of the previous model implies that the level of innovation has been low, and there is absolutely no innovation or the drive in Apple Inc. anymore. Based on similar products from rival companies, the prices have been hiking up, but not as ridiculous as Apple’s. Most of the company’s products cost more than 1000 dollars; this price, especially for smartphones.

It is ridiculous that the company has to sell basic products such as smartphones at such a higher price. Through this, most customers have pushed away from purchasing the company’s products, providing a chance for rival companies to attract more customers while leaving a lesser proportion of customers at Apple’s disposal. Despite the high cost of the products, there is also a problem with their longevity. The sustainability and longevity of Apple’s products, especially smartphones, have been terrible. Many customers have complained of device failures, making it hard for them to complete an entire year the same device. Customers of other products such as Samsung Galaxy S5 have been happy clients enjoying affordable pricing and the longevity of the product, which gives more credit to rival companies.

Another negative attribute about Apple’s brand regards the updates, especially on the iPhones. According to most consumers, the updates on iPhones tend to do more harm than good. Many people are complaining of how bad the updates have been and how they result in so many bugs to smartphones. People do buy products with higher expectations that the products will be of service and value to their lives, but when such issues of failed updates result, the opposite does happen. Regarding this issue, most people have complained that Apple Inc. has been slow to respond to consumer claims regarding the updates that have ruined many smartphones.

Apple Inc. is a terrible company that is only focused on social status but is extremely expensive, and its products do not last long. Besides, the updates ruin the highly valued devices, which should be a major concern to HR. There should be measures to reduce the negativity that is associated with the products. One of the solutions is that Apple Inc. should lower the prices of its devices as the high the prices, the lower the demand. An affordable price accompanied by a high quality of the devices provides value for money, making it possible to retain more customers while attracting new ones. Another solution that the HR should focus on is to work on the longevity of the devices. Customers can be very happy when the devices bought can offer quality services for an extended duration, making it easy to recommend new customers. Also, HR should work on the updates; they should improve on ensuring they do not ruin the devices. It is unfortunate for a person to buy a product only to be ruined with an update termed as legit from the company.
