Major in Psychology

Psychology Major

The University of Trine offers a variety of degree programs in which students can major in. During my time at the University of Trine, I will major in psychology. Trine’s psychology major is popular for the solid education that it offers through a variety of courses that are related to behaviour science.

For an individual to be able to satisfactorily complete a psychology major at Trine University he is required to have studied, understood and taken examinations in forensic psychology, marriage and family, personality, psychology of addiction, abnormal psychology, human sexuality and counselling. Furthermore, the university has a career department that is rich in staffs that are knowledgeable in different fields. Their interest is to ensure that they provide the necessary guidance to students to enable them make informed carer and major decisions. A psychology major from Trine University prepares an individual not only for a graduate degree but also for jobs that are in an eclectic diversity of community settings.

A psychology major equips an individual with the skills necessary in understanding different behavioural traits in different people and the provision of necessary help to the said individual. Some of the career opportunities available in this major include mental and behaviour health counselling, civic organizations administration and substance abuse counselling and treatment among other opportunities. My career choice is substance abuse counselling and treatment programs. This will serve my interests as a counsellor and I will be able to provide guidance to a large number of youth who have an addiction in the use of drugs.

A psychology major is the best for me since it will play an essential role in not only putting my skills into practice, it will also enhance my personal skills to ensure that I become a better counsellor in the future. I am a team player. This skill is important in the major because, psychology as a science that seeks to understand human behaviour will require team effort, among learners and professionals, to ensure that proper research is conducted on various factors that influence human behaviour. My good communication and interpersonal skills will also be essential in my major since they enhance better relationships not only among students but also between a counsellor and a patient (Bate & Stevenson 3-4). The major challenge will encompass a proper understanding of human behaviour and the reasons why an individual chooses to acquire certain behavioural traits. Man is a dynamic being with numerous aspects influencing his behaviour. The ability to have a correct diagnosis of any given behaviour will prove to be a challenge. However, through different subject and research initiatives offered by the university I will develop important knowledge on human behaviour.

My goal is to become a knowledgeable and reliable counselling psychologist in the area of drug and substance abuse by the end of my four years taking my major in psychology at Trine University. This goal is only achievable by determination in my studies to ensure that I excel and qualify as a counselling psychologist. In addition constant research on the dynamics of human behaviour will also be essential. Research and dedication in any field of study is the best way through which a professional will not only enhance his or her expertise but also be relevant to the current problems in the society (Vescio, et al 13).

Topic 1: How Mexican Costumbrismo painters Showcased Social Class for Wealthy Collectors

There is no doubt that Mexican Costumbrismo painters showcased Mexico’s outstanding popular culture in festivals, customs, and rituals. One of the traits that cut across Mexican art is that it emphasized displaying the everyday customs and manners of the society’s customs and everyday life. These paintings had a way of harmoniously showcasing members of the societies as being content with their position in society. Each person had a role to play. From the market fruit vendors to the landowners, each person had a specific social class they identified with and everybody seemed to stick to their lanes. From my standpoint, I think that although the paintings the developed for wealthy painting collectors they reflected the social class that existed in Mexican society in that they painted a clear picture between the haves and the have nots in the society. The paintings highlighted various life aspects, including domestic wealth, poverty, and exploitation. The rich people purchased the paintings because they could clearly relate to their content. As landowners, the rich controlled factors of production and provided employment to the poor members of society.

Worth noting, the content of the paintings reflected a real picture of aspects of social hierarchy and progress. The paintings indicated a clear divide amongst the Mexican population. The paintings did a good job of showcasing the economic and social conditions of Mexico City. Although the paintings did not include portraits of rich people in most cases, they showcased various aspects, such as the sections of the city where the rich and educated people would reside. The wealthy collectors looked forward to seeing Mexican life and culture reflected in the paintings. At the same time, the content of the paintings showcased popular customs and festivities that the wealthy people could identify with, making it easy for them to purchase the paintings.

Part 1

Image one

The first image in part one was created by World History Archives and posted by professor Valero on December 6, 1994. He made the image to appreciate the achievement of the revolutionary army led by Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata. The seated people in the picture are the army leaders, while those standing at their back are other army members. People in the photo are; from the left, Pancho Villa, Eulalio Gutierrez, Emiliano Zapata and Felicitas Villareal. They had just arrived in the capital, and they were to have a banquet. The photo was taken when the Mexican revolution was taking place. During this year, the two leaders joined hands to overthrow Victoriano. Zapata and his army prevented Victoriano from sending his troop to attach opponents’ fighters. Zapata and Felicitas were photographed sitting in the presidential chare in the national palace (Pasztor, 1994). Their faces showed victory, which was a sign of a new phase of the revolution.

Image two

The second image was created by World History Archives and posted by professor Valero in 1914. Image two shows guerrilla fighters in their uniform having breakfast in a restaurant. Their faces appear worried. Their presence in the city caused fear to the attendants in the restaurants since they were never used to seeing such characters in the town. The fighters do not seem happy even after winning a war against the overthrown government (Rampersad, 2001). They are afraid of cameras because they think that the photos may be used to punish them in case of reversal of the overthrown government. Some of them feared to face the camera directly and tried to hide their faces. The fighters have their weapons at the restaurant, implying that it was not yet peaceful and they had a duty to guard their nation. The image shows that the guerrilla fighters’ group comprised whites and black Mexicans.

Section 2

Representation of Mexican History or Historical Figures

Mexican history extends to more than three eras. At one point, Mexico was uncivilized, and its civilization level could fluctuate from low to high. Later Mexico developed a unique multicultural society that led to the development of civilization. Large and complex developments of civilizations in the central and southern region. The civilization of Mexicans enabled them to be more creative and make more unique things, representing Mexico’s history (Hershfield, 1996). Some of the figures that represent the history of Mexico were influenced by significant urban settlement, epic architecture like the ball court, the division of the society into religious, political leaders, the extension of culture’, transfer of tribute, and rending of labor from commoners and trade and markets. Figures which represent the history of Mexica are discussed below.

Market ingredients at the market in Mexico City, which comprised of quinolines, Huauzontle, huitlacoche, and squash flowers. The first settlers of Mexico came across a mild climate that favored the growth of the above food crops. The area had deer, a factor that led to the pursuit of hunter-gatherer existence. Variegated maize was grown by people from western Mexico who wanted to be investigative and selectively breeder maize. Mexicans had a different form of religion from the Abrahamic concept. They had a god who they had made on stone carving. It was placed at the temple entrance, and despite the chronology of geography, the central aspect of this religious Patheon was shared among all members of the society. During the significant civilization, power was consolidated and the exercise in matters of trade. Maya was created preceding the classical period. Maya kingdom had sprung up. Teotihuacan is an enormous archaeological site in the Basin of Mexico that contains the most extensive pyramidal structures. The structures had been built during the pre-Columbian Americas. Other features created during the historical period were; Toltec and Aztec Empires.

Representation of Mexican or Universal Symbols.

National symbols are the flag, the coat, and the national anthem. The county’s national symbol is an eagle holding a snake in its neck. The symbol reflects the days of Aztecs coming to the valley of Mexico. It was legally found based on Aztec Capital. The Mexican flag has a rectangle that is divided into three equal bands. The bands are painted green, white, and red. The national symbol is placed at the center, where the painting is white. The green color stands for independence, white for religion, and red stands for the union. The green part means hope and prosperity, the white amount signifies purity, while the red color represents the bloodshed during the fight for independence.

Francisco Gonzalez Bocanegra wrote the national anthem. Jaime composed the music in the national anthem. The national anthem lyrics mention the historical Mexican military victories in the brutal battle (Trillo, 1996). The anthem also includes cries of defending the homeland. The anthem invites Mexicans to fight for their own country and always stay strong and prepared for a battle. The culture of Mexico is rich, colorful, and vibrant. It is influenced by the old-time civilization such as Aztec and Maya. Europeans’ colonizers also affected the society of the country. Today, Mexican culture is one of the most unique and fascinating cultures globally. However, people vary in diversity in Mexico because of different lifestyles.
