Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
Synopsis
In the script, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, August Wilson has numerous characters with a lot of diverse traits, which results in several conflicts among the personalities. The drama is majorly about supremacy tussles between personalities in the script. The fights that the thespians are aggressive about are associated with the hegemony fights between the producers in charge of the recording studio and the associates of the band. There are several diverse power fights that go on all through the play, and they have an enormous consequence on what eventually happens at last to every character in the play. Each of the conflicts in the script arises as a result of each character’s different point of view of how something should be done.
Analysis
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom play takes place in the year 1927 and dramatizes the real-life songster Ma Rainey, well-known as the Mother of the Blues, whose music career spanned from 1899 to 1933. The performance takes place over the course of an afternoon recording session in a Chicago recording studio, whereby Ma Rainey and her band associates are putting tracks for a new album. Tension and temperature arise in the studio as the band members await a trailblazing performer. Ma Rainey, who is at the same time renowned but incapable of boarding a cab since she is black, orders respect from her white owner of the studio and her white agent (Mattson, 2016). She comes late, and her four band associates, Toledo, Slow Drag, Cutler, and Levee, wait for her to reach.
Meanwhile, they keep discussing religion, racial power dynamics, social activism, religion, and art. Levee, who happens to have already written his music, tries to assert his own style and creativity on the band established on a supposed assurance he develops from the studio proprietor that they would record his music. At the time when Ma Rainey fires him, and the exact studio owner draws desire in his music, Levee finishes his fury on his band companions, stabbing and murdering Toledo when he takes over his position.
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom has a lot of the subjects that go all the way through Wilson’s successive work: the demoralizing impacts of racial discernment, the heartless indifference that the white civilization has conventionally considered black Americans, and the notion that the fundamental to black salvation and self-reliance lies in emerging a sense of history and heritage (O’Callaghan, 2018). The script main and central message is fixed in a statement alleged by Toledo: “Provided that the tinted man looks to white societies to put the crown on what he say” He meant that provided that he focused on the white folks approval, then he would never have found out who he was and what he was about. He’s only going to be near what white people anticipate him to be about. The script finds out the attitudes and values toward music and the life of the definitive blues singer, Ma Rainey. Their financial mistreatment as African American singers in a white managed recording production, in addition to their poorer societal position in the mainstream white beliefs, becomes obvious in the play’s action and dialogue.

I believe family dynamics and culture shapes our growth and development as children, transitions to adulthood and who we choose to become or our identity as adults. It shapes our perceptions, decisions and actions. I grew up in a small single-parent family made of me, my father, my elder brother Jeremy also known as Jem, and our black cook, Calpurnia. We lived in a small city known as Maycomb, Alabama particularly the seat of Maycomb County. Calpurnia is practically part of the family because she has lived with us for as long as I can remember. She has been there for us, supported and helped my father with household responsibilities and raising us right following the death of my mother. My friends, family and community members perceive my qualities, identity and social space quite unusual because I don’t engage in activities or affairs my age mates are partly because I grew up with my father. Therefore, he influenced most aspects of my life, including, my dressing, activities I like, dreams and aspirations. My father nurtured my mind, conscience, and individuality with neutrality and a lot of love, to ensure I’m not swept away by the notions of propriety and social hypocrisy. Thanks to spending most times with my brother and father, I became unusually confident, smart and kind to the people around me. I always have the interest of the people at heart and would do anything to put a smile on somebody’s face. In the Southern world of Maycomb, I’m known for being a tomboy because of my dressing code. Instead of wearing dresses like the rest of the girls in Maycomb, I preferred rocking overalls because it allowed me to climb trees with my brother and our friend Drill. Drill visits his aunt who lives in our neighborhood every summer. Therefore, every summer we get to spend time together, climb trees and play wild games. My father taught me how to stand up for myself and against any evil done on any other person. One time, my father was attacked and criticized for taking up a case and defending Tom Robinson, a black man who has been accused of raping a young white woman named Mayella Ewell. Society members even nicknamed him “nigger-lover.” These events led to a very memorable day I’m proud of because I saved my father. He faced and countered a group of people who wanted to lynch his client, Tom. Luck enough, I was able to save the day by standing up and breaking the mob mentality geared by the group of attackers. I immediately recognized my classmate’s father in the group, approached him and talked him out of the idea. This action, eventuality cause the mob to disperse, saving both my dad and his client. Despite not listening to my father’s orders to stand down, I was proud that I had done something nice to my father and made a positive impact by stopping the lynch. However, I apologized to my father for not following his instructions.

Product and/or Service Description
Blending fresh juice creates an environment where customers can quench their thirst through a naturally fresh drink. As such, my business idea and plans get based on the extensive production of freshly blended fruit juice and online delivery of the product to the market.
What is your initial focus (how many SKUs? What initial features?)
My initial focus will target making fruit juice from different fruits which include oranges, mango, passion, pineapple, apple and cocktail. The fruit juice will be packaged in 250ml, 500ml, 1 litre and 2 litres. The 250ml and the 500ml will be packaged in tumbler cups or bottles for immediate or later consumption depending on the customer’s preference. The 1 litre and 2 litres will be packaged in 1 litre and 2 litre jerry cans consecutively.
In what ways will you scale up? And in what time frame?
In order to scale up, I intend to find out the business procedures that are working and those that are not. I will therefore do away with those that are not working or find ways to improve them. I will set a new goal depending on the business experience I have acquired since I started. The goal will be accompanied by small goals which will keep me in track as I work towards the main goal. I will inform my work team on the new goal and brainstorm with them on how we can achieve it. I will assess the business and look for opportunities to automate. I will also try out new procedures and get feedback from the team and the customers. I intend to scale after 3 months of starting the business.
In what ways will you grow? And in what time frame?
In order to grow the business I will need more funds. I will need to employ more workers so as to delegate duties. Division and specialization of labour makes the employees more productive and own their work. I will also need to have a social media manager who will help with online advertisement of the business. I will also need more machines which are efficient to increase fruit juice production. I will also open another branch in a nearby city to the original business. A new branch will help reach target customers that are far but do not order online. I will grow my business six months after starting.
