Recent orders
during the negotiations with the Mexicans on the land to the north of Mexico
the chief negotiator was failing to carry out his duty accordingly. Polk had him recalled from duty. However
Taylor was the one who replaced Scott as the head of the military. Over time
Polk soon realized that Taylor was a potential threat to his leadership. He devised a way of removing him from the helm of power. He claimed that Taylor lacked the strength and grasp of mind of successfully heading the army command unit. Since he was unable to replace him with a Democrat
he furthered his agenda of asking the Senate to institute a state of war with Mexico. After two years
the army seized the Mexico city and negotiations took root on the way forward for the largely uninhabited northern tracts of land in Mexico. Large tracts of land were thus ceded into the United States territory.
