Americans Political Beliefs

Political beliefs are among the fundamental elements in the society that expresses the general civilians’ ideologies in a nation. American political beliefs in the year 2018 can be categorized as a mix of both liberal and conservative. It evident from the different opinions seen regarding the act of either supporting or opposing the small government in consideration of changes and other political behaviors. Liberals can be referred as people who support the small government, and they are willing to accept changes that are innovational based bringing new ideas that will positively impact the nation. On the other side, conservatives can be defined as those people who oppose the smaller government, and they are not flexible to adopt new changes that are risk-based and tend to take time in determining whether the opinions leads to deprivation of nation’s ethical values. In this paper, the act of Americans showing a mix of conservative and liberal political beliefs are discussed into a profound extent in consideration of proofs as well as public opinion polls as the measure of evidence.

First, are the proofs that Americans are liberal in their political beliefs in consideration of legalizing marijuana and gender equality. The public opinion polls showed that many people are for authorizing the illegal drug as a fifty-eight percent of the American citizens supports the opinion of making the use of marijuana legal in the nation. The civilians have showed greater interest regarding lawfully accepting marijuana regarding the research by Quinnipiac University Poll. It makes it clear that the Americans have liberty and goes by the opinions that they are for regardless of the government laws (Ganzach, 2017). For instance, considering the case of legalizing marijuana is interesting as the public are for it regarding the various contradicting reasons behind it.

The issue of equality regarding gender whether in the family, employment, as well as any other official events, have been recently passed with a high percentage of ninety-four percent of the America citizens saying it is right. Here liberty is shown as the civilians enormously support the government’s idea of gender sensitiveness. According to the investigation, it is right to say that both men and women have equal rights and role in the society. Regarding the mentioned above definition the act of citizen supporting postulates liberty as the people are on the side by which they think the change to be made is pioneering and brings sound change to the society (Honeycutt & Freberg 2017). Gender sensitivity is an essential thing in the community that requires proper address as it can lead to diversion not only at the family level but also in the society. Both women and men have the responsibility of ensuring society development and ignoring one side affect the social-economic society of the nation. It significantly proofs that Americans are liberals and are there to support changes that are sound to the nation.

Also, the civilians support the activities of United States landing a robotic explorer in the planet Mars which sends back data as well as pictures where seventy-two percent of them stated that this is a great achievement. The action involves scientific exploration and technology advancement in the nation. Therefore, the act of the public is positively responding to the fact shows that they are eager to adopt new ideas and innovations (Honeycutt & Freberg 2017). Inventions lead to opportunities which are the primary interest of Americans proving that they are liberals.

On the other hand, are the proofs that American civilians are conservative regarding political beliefs. The first proof regards the action of Americans going against the government law of authorizing gun carrying by the students in the school where sixty-three percent was against. The research basing students’ armament is by Suffolk University Poll. It signifies that Americans are resistant to changes that are morally degrading and negatively affecting the community. The issues regarding students gun carrying have raised lots of question that are contradictory and alarming. Many may say that the law tends to establish sufficient security among the students but on the other side, one can argue that it is a threat not only to the fellow students and teachers but also the surrounding community. It is a proof that people remain on the custom beliefs of not accepting changes that are unethical and susceptible to inconveniences as well as economy threatening (Mendelberg, et.al 2017).

The other proof that the people of America are conservative regards the building of wall at the border of Mexico. A significant percentage of fifty-nine percent opposes the act in consideration of the Quinnipiac University Poll. The closure of the border seems against the will of many which are not the case with government’s understanding. The government may be intending to boost security among other reasons, but the citizens feel that the deed will significantly affect the economy. Conservativeness is seen among the public members as they want to retain the past where there is no erected wall along the border of the United States and Mexico. The civilians, in general, are on the border between the two countries remain open as they are susceptive of the results of wall erection.

According to the discussion above, it is clear that Americans have mixed political beliefs both liberal and conservative. It has been stated that liberals are people who support changes that are innovational based on bringing new ideas that will positively impact the nation. It has been supported right through the act of Americans supporting gender equality, legalization of marijuana and landing of a robotic explorer in mars. Also, communist has been illustrated to be people who oppose the smaller government, and they are not flexible to adopt changes that are risk-based and tend to take time in determining whether the opinions leads to deprivation of nation’s ethical values. The examples regarding the Americans being against the construction of the wall at the border of the United States and Mexico as well as the act of rejecting the authorization of students carrying guns to school reflects that Americans are conservative. Therefore, as the Americans believe in things that are liberty and conservative, it is recommendable to conclude that their political beliefs basis is both conservative and liberal.

Rhetorical Composing Strategies

Since the emergence of social media, its impact has been felt by people of all ages. Social media has several advantages, such as making the world a global village and improving business clientele through marketing. However, it has come to be known to have more disadvantages. Rhetorical techniques will support how I convey my arguments and convince my audience about the effects of social media on users. These tactics, often referred to as rhetorical strategies, assist me in organizing the evidence, connecting the findings into a logical order, and providing the informational groupings required to express a goal or an opinion. Research shows that people must be held accountable for their actions to improve their social media habits. This paper discusses rhetorical composing strategies that I will use to reach my audience and explain my purpose.

Defining and Describing Purpose

Most people do not understand the effects of social media on them. They think social media should entirely consume their life since it is the current norm. I will start by defining what good social media habits are and which are not. I will also define terms based on the topic, which may not be known by the different audiences, which include adults and teenagers (Corrigan & Slomp, 2021). Describing situations and places will make the audience understand better. For example, in social media, the audience needs to understand that there are both advantages and disadvantages to it.

Audience and Context

The audience may not understand the various effects of social media and its causes. It is, therefore, my job to analyze them based on my prior research (Javadi- Safa, 2018). One effect of social media is a lack of social interaction with people. This is primarily due to staying indoors and hiding behind screens. The exact cause can lead to a lack of exercise since people spend more time on social media than doing physical exercises such as running or walking. Lack of physical exercise may lead to heart problems, diabetes, cancer, and other lifestyle diseases (Allcot et al., 2020). Another effect is an increase in low self-esteem and depression in teenagers. Teenagers want to meet specific standards showcased on the different social media platforms. They feel they are not good enough if they cannot meet such standards.

Another effect is an increase in sexual interactions among teenagers. Social media platforms have made teenagers more aware of this topic that most adults do not openly discuss. They also want to experiment with most of the things they see on these platforms without adult supervision. Another effect is a lack of quality sleep (Allcot et al., 2020). Most people use social media in bed until they fall asleep. Some do not sleep since they spend the whole night glued to their screens. These may lead to being tired the following day and not being actively productive at work.

Strategies

Comparing and Contrasting

The audience must also understand the differences and similarities based on the advantages and disadvantages of social media (Javadi- Safa, 2018). Another factor to compare and contrast was life before and after social media. They should be informed that social media was created for its advantages. These advantages include communicating with people all over the world and also as a way to pass information to large numbers of people all at once. One may say that the platforms were also made for entertainment (Allcot et al., 2020). Look at businesses, for example. Online businesses are currently more profitable compared to physical stores. They are more accessible, faster, effective, and convenient. This was made evident during the Covid-19 pandemic. People can also shop from all over the world. Again, during the pandemic, there were no social gatherings, so people had to hold online meetings. This was another time social media proved to be advantageous.

However, social media has way more disadvantages. First, it is addictive, so people can spend hours on their devices and forget about their lives. The first thing people do after waking up and before sleeping is check their social media. They lack social interactions with people around them, such as neighbors and friends, but they communicate with people worldwide (Allcot et al., 2020). In social media, people also fake certain lifestyles making teenagers feel not good enough. Some teenagers even face mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety through cyberbullying. It is, however, not possible to take gadgets away from teenagers because they use them for other activities, such as learning.

Before the arrival of social media, people were not exposed to things that were happening all over the world. They only knew about what was in their countries—people communicated through letters, postcards, and emails. People mostly interacted in person and were closer to people around them (Allcot et al., 2020). Businesses were all physical stores, and one had to show up in person to purchase a product. However, depression, anxiety, and self-esteem issues were not that high. Life before and after social media is incomparable. It feels like decades apart, yet it was less than twenty years ago.

Classifying and Dividing

An excellent strategy to deliver a message to an audience is dividing them into groups (Corrigan & Slomp, 2021). Since all people are affected by social media, I would have them in two groups, adults and teenagers. The adults would be educated on managing social media habits in their homes. These would include imposing rules on social media time usage and discipline. They should monitor what their children are doing on these platforms. They should also be educated to lead by example by spending more time with their kids than on their gadgets. Teenagers, on the other hand, since there are more affected by social media, will need more time (Allcot et al., 2020). They should be educated on the advantages and disadvantages of social media. They should also know the benefits of being accountable for their actions on social media. Most will need counseling due to depression, anxiety, and self-esteem issues caused by social media.

Medium and Arrangement

The best medium would be through social media since the target audience is the users. The audience needs to understand all the processes associated with social media (Javadi- Safa, 2018). One process is that of addiction. They need to be aware that it takes doing an action for three weeks for it to become a habit. After that, it becomes a lifestyle. Staring at the screens and browsing social media may be fun until one feels like one can not live without it. People fail to eat, exercise, work or do normal life activities (Allcot et al., 2020). It causes more significant harm to teenagers than adults, which is why they need to understand such processes. They need to learn how mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem may arise from social media. By learning the processes, they are more aware and more willing to be accountable regarding social media.

Conclusion

Rhetorical techniques will support how I convey my arguments and convince my audience. These tactics, often referred to as rhetorical strategies, assist me in organizing the evidence, connecting the findings into a logical order, and providing the informational groupings required to express a goal or an opinion. I have discussed the strategies of defining and describing, analyzing causes and effects, comparing and contrasting, explaining processes, and finally, classifying and dividing. By using these strategies, my audience will likely understand more about social media’s effects on users and find ways to eliminate the issue and move in the right direction.

Health Care

Health care is the topic chosen for this discussion because it is an issue affecting the real world. Therefore, healthcare today focuses on the accessibility and the quality of the services offered to the patients. The four primary areas of interest in a healthcare facility are service integration, where most people do not get access to the services provided in hospitals. Also, there is service quality since most of the institutions do not have enough resources that can be used to address the issue affecting the patients. Currently, there is the emergence of the global pandemic that has hit many countries differently. As such, it is a precise measure of the poor state of the various healthcare centres. Most countries need to learn from the pandemic and rectify their area of weaknesses. Also, the patients are not in a position of purchasing drugs because the cost is high, thus making the higher social class group in the community have an advantage over the others since they can afford the medication.

Insight of the Concepts

The concepts that help elaborate health care as the real issue is the report provided by the WHO as the challenges affecting the health sector and these factors are likely to affect the world even in the next decade if proper measures are not taken into considerations. The primary concepts include health care equity amongst the people where there is an uneven distribution of access to health care services (Ose et al., 2017). There is also access to treatments in that most people globally are not able to access healthcare services. Another concept is the health care delivery in areas that are considered to have crisis and conflicts. Another problem is the climate crisis that has caused a significant implication on the healthcare sector.

According to Franklin and Schneeweiss (2017), there is also the issue of preventing the infectious disease and every time it emerges, affecting the population negatively. Many health care facilities are not able to offer treatment o their patients, especially for these infectious diseases. From the world’s experience now, one clear thing is that the health care industry is unprepared for a pandemic outbreak such as the current COVID-19 (Berger et al., 2017). There is the issue of underinvestment in the health workers, and therefore, most of them cannot take care of the patients. These concepts give insight into health care issue globally. It is because the pictures show what problems are faced in the health care sector.

Explanation of the Concepts

A report from WHO in 2019 shows that the countries that were experiencing crisis and conflicts had many cases of disease outbreak compared to their counterparts. When conflicts arise, the healthcare practitioners are killed in the process. The number of left managing the healthcare sector reduces thus, being overwhelmed by the care the people needs, and it negatively affects the results. Also, conflicts divert the government’s attention from providing resources for health care to shifting their minds into fighting and calming the situation.

Another issue is health care equity. Across the various socio-economic groups, there are considerable disparities in the quality of care that people receive when they are in healthcare facilities, making it an issue globally because people would not get equal attention (Webster, 2020). Report from WHO shows that the age difference between those who are having high income and those who have low income is about 18 years, an indication of how the healthcare sector needs to have considered as a significant problem that needs to be addressed to ensure that people have equal access to health care services.

Another concept is access to treatment in a health care facility. Only a third of the people globally do not get access to essential health products such as vaccines, diagnosis, and other forms of medications (Berger et al., 2017). It is no doubt that limitations to access to such medication cause a threat to the healthcare facility. Therefore, there is a need to ensure that as many people as possible need to get access to these services to help improve people’s health.

Another issue is seen in infectious disease prevention. Therefore, it is an issue that has encroached on the health care sector as they cannot entirely prevent diseases like HIV and STDs that has killed a significant amount of people (Franklin & Schneeweiss, 2017). There is a need to develop vaccines that can be used to prevent the disease and ensure that the people are living well as they take their medications to avoid the viruses from attacking their bodies. Lack of preparedness is another issue that needs to be addressed because pandemic disease like COVID-19 has killed many people.

Conclusion

It is evident that the key issue affecting society globally is the health care issue since it affects all the countries, and there is a need to join hands in addressing the issue. Also, the more significant problem is equitability. Therefore, there is a need for government in different states to come up with programs that will help address this issue in-depth and ensure that people receive equal services and of similar quality when they attend health care facility. Prevention programs can also be put in place to ensure that epidemic preparedness is in place every time the government deals with emerging ailments like the current COVID-19.
