Chats about the Educator in the Making

Perhaps the realization that not all books are useful to the human understanding is much more important than cramming the contents in those books. For example, voluminous books are produced each year with text referring to more or less the same topics that were referred to years ago; however, not much has changed in terms of the contents. The fact that publications are commercialised make things to be much worse as publishers produce works of other people and reprints are spewed each year, making it difficult to determine the authenticity of the books. Most of the books in the markets are produced by people who are not authorities in the subjects and are likely to do anything to make money. Most of the materials are plagiarised without proper referencing. The worst case is the professional malpractices which involves changing the years of publication and the copyright details to make the books hot cakes. However, it is necessary to evaluate the value of books before starting to read the contents. For example, it is essential to look at the critical features in books such as the year of publication, the author to know if it was done by an authority. The index page to help in locating the topics required, only serous authors provide indexes for their books. Other features are also pertinent to read to know if the material is worth your time, for example, the authors preface and the foreword, which are deemed to give an introduction on the contents of the books

Q#2.

While reading books is extremely valuable as it edifies the mind and soul, it is imperative to read only relevant materials. In academics, relevancy is measured by the external features of books, such as contents, reliability of the author, age of the materials and the publishing house because of the current prevalence in the number of unscrupulous publishing houses. However, there are also cases of piracy which is crippling the writing industry. It is important to analyse the contents on the outer part of the book to evaluate the materials if it’s what you want and if it will meet your reader need and not waste time. By doing this one also learns to distinguish between the different publishers, and determine the best publishing houses. Good publishers do not just publish books without verifying the contents. It is also necessary to look at the references, the names of the author should be reliable and not fictitious and his title and qualification, this helps differentiate between the quacks and authorities.

On the other hand, education is not as dull as many people perceive it to be. The article argues that for one to realise the importance of education he has to assume the unknown, he has to start from ignorance and realise the importance of unknown. Good education must not be measured by the issuance of a sheep skin scroll for the certificate, but the sheer acquisition of knowledge. The basics of knowledge include the age old disciplines such as grammar, Rhetoric, Logic, and Mathematics. However, faint heart never won a fair lady. This makes it indispensable to learn how to accept these disciplines. However, scary they may be because they form the foundation of the art of reading writing and reckoning, just the values that makes a man

This book looks at the history determines the future of the United States. To him, the United States is a nation in progress and may not be finished in the near future. He tries to analyse all the forces responsible for creating the United States. These forces are constantly at war and their jostling leads to the current unfinished state of the US. The main cause of this state is the diversity of the country and the sheer complexity of its history. These two factors have been evolving in relations to the present events and the past setting in motion a number of events. It particularly looks at the pre-Columbian America and the current America. It also covers the current events in the country that are continuously shaping the history of America.

In the history of America, there have been a number of issues that went unresolved, however, a number of mysteries were resolved with ease, thanks to the use of technology, pictures, it also looks at the past and the present, and puts alot of memphasis on the revolution that have taken place in the past couple of years. However, the use of oral evidence, photographs, ecological data, films and television programs, church and town records, census data, and novels is given alot of prominence in the detective work

Q#3

A self instructed leaner is the kind of learner who know what he wants from the sources he is look for. Some of the key characteristics include the ability to be critical of the environment. The self instructed learner is inquisitive and always seek to look for reliable evidences on pertinent issues in has immediate environment. On the other hand, a self instructed learner is always keen to analyse the evidences for authenticity. From the articles by Lingard, (1939), a self instructed leaner need to determine if the article or the resources he is referring to have the vital information about the author, the publisher, year of publication, reprints and copyright. Most of the references materials are pirated making them lose their authenticity. On the other hand, it is imperative for the self instructed learner to use logic at all times. Being logical means the ability to think beyond the face values and subtle facts. One has to analyse and comprehend the inner meanings.

Self taught learners use their self taught skills to realise the importance of the materials in the course materials. These learners make use of oral evidence, photographs, ecological data, films and television programs, church and town records, census data, and novels to achieve their learning aims. These materials serve as evidence in their learning to back up their arguments and facts.

Nevertheless, it is also imperative for the self taught learners to understand facts and translate them into systems that they understand. This group of people to not grasp ideas easily in a group or group discussion but would rather study alone at their own pace.

The self instructed learners must be able to relate academic facts to the daily happenings of life; this relationship also helps in the coordination of the principles stresses in class rooms. Committing the phraseology taught by the lecture is essential, but only to an examination situation; this is unlike the self instructed learners who take their time to study for their benefit not just to pass exams.

Self instructed learners can study even in a situation in which there are no examinations to be done but rejoices in the sheer acquisition of knowledge and enlightenment. Some of the main ideas that are emphasised in the articles included critical thinking. The use of critical thinking is also instrumental in the analysis of arguments and peculiar difficulties. At times, it is imperative to note that, some arguments are easy to elucidate on the first reading. However, if the first reading does not offer much, second the third reading is required; this is where the self instructed learner gets to grasp the relation. Nonetheless, it is understandable if the learners have difficulties in grasping the relations due to the differences in mental capacities and some psychological reasons.

Conclusion

The articles also argues that whole learning is much better as compared to part learning because in whole learning, the student gets develops a deeper understanding of the scenario. Some of the best approaches to learning involve trial and error. In this case, trial and error supplements insight and in turn insight is co-operated with trials and error. The paper also posits an argument that if any sentence is not clear, then the learner needs to study the whole paragraph and if a paragraph is not clear, then there is the need to study the e whole articles, this offers an insight into the whole information. On the other hand, understanding the way an idea is articulated is also crucial.

Character Analysis of the Narrator of “Lust”

The story “Lust” by Susan Minot takes place in the Casey Academy which is a coeducational institution, where students at the age of 15 years and above study. The academy is religious-based institution following the narrator’s assertion that at the beginning of each day every student has to go to the on-campus chapel to pray and have intercession.

It is in the same religious set up where a promiscuous high school lady’s sexual desires act, whose real name is not mentioned, but “Lust” does all things that are not religious. “Lust” as the name refers to the desire to have instant sexual relationships with members of the opposite sex. The narrator, Lust, portrays various character traits throughout the play which blends well with the title of the story. These characters are well portrayed and are significantly non-religious in comparison to the expectations of the religion-based high school, Casey Academy.

The narrator is a self-victimizer. She constantly makes a victim of herself for her own sake. In the narrative, it is clear that she is responsible for instigating men and thereafter feels to be somehow cheated. However, she does not make any attempt to change her behavior. She asserts that men cheat, especially after giving everything to them what they need. “Then comes after. After when they don’t look at you. They scratch their balls, stare at the ceiling…You’re gone. Their blank look tells you that the girl they were fucking is not there anymore. You seem to have disappeared” (Minot).

The narrator has low self-esteem. This is evitable as she talks of her past life with boys and how she used to find problems with them. For her, this situation is intolerable and she can no longer do and enjoy what she liked. She has a feeling that her parents, by taking her to a boarding high school in New England, affected her love life since she cannot find someone to show her love to. In connection to that, she also feels the influence of the absence of her family and sees the parents’ decision to take her to a boarding school as neglect.

She is also sexually active. She loves sex though she does not really enjoy having it and with time it becomes a part of her. She does it with different men but does not gain satisfaction. She builds trust in having sex and asserts that the only way to get satisfied is to do it not pleasing at times. “After sex, you curl up like a shrimp, something deep inside you ruined” (Minot).

The narrator is immoral. The act of having sex with different men itself illustrates immorality of the highest order. This immorality becomes part of her despite the fact that deep inside, she feels remorseful aftermath. However, this assertion is true to the effect that when she was taken to the boarding high school, she felt like she was missing something within herself, which was sex. Furthermore, as the story begins, the narrator is portrayed as a character possessing self-indulgent sexual desire. “There’d be times when you overdid it. You’d get carried away. All the next day, you’d be in a total fog, delirious, absent minded, crossing the street and nearly getting run over” (Minot).

Lust is also emotional. It is evident from the story how emotional the narrator is. She builds emotions after realizing that she has been taken to a boarding school, a place which is far from her feelings and family life. This makes her feel insecure and creates her dislike for the school. Moreover, sometimes after having sex she feels emotionally removed from the experience. “….when Tim returns to her after closing the door, he finds merely a body waiting on the rug” (Minot).

She is selfless and determined. One can clearly figure it out how she struggles in order to accomplish her desires. She partakes in any chance to ensure that she fulfills what she deserves. Her determination contributes much to her personality, especially when she gets introduced to the new environment far from home.

The narrator is persistent. Even though she always has a sick feeling after having sexual intercourse, she remains persistent and the feeling does not affect her sexual desire. For her, it is a feeling that comes and fades giving room for the next trial. This persistence plays a crucial role in building her personality as well as her character. With the help of this she becomes what she is therefore giving the continuity of flow of the story.

She also reveals herself as unreliable character in the story. For instance, the narrator is not identified by any name. She is unspecified and anonymous in this context but rather identified through her relationship with other characters. This becomes a very important feature in the development of her character in the story.

She is confident. Her confidence is what enables her to get many men without their knowledge. Whenever she has a man, her confidence makes him think or rather reason that he is the one in narrator’s possession. This character proves that she is smarter in her undertakings since no one would even think of her as a lustful girl, instead one would easily build confidence and trust in her. The character’s traits also make her an achiever in her desires by making her always active.

The narrator is goal-oriented. As the story starts, she tells about her feelings and the first time she had sex with a boy. As the story develops, she tends to have more “traffic” in terms of boys and she states how she had sex with many boys and the under different circumstances.

In conclusion, with the help of narrator one is able to picture the men’s expectations in society in relation to the women that are obliged to have sex with them. This assertion is true since one can notice that any man she has a relationship with is just for sex.

Chapter 3: Research MethodologyIntroduction

This chapter will give an illustration and discussion of the methodology that has been adopted for this research, including how the collection and data analysis took place to test the hypotheses in the later stages. Research StrategyResearch methodology is the most important part of the research as it highlights how the data used in the research was collected and analyzed. The methods of data collection are many, but the most optimal; method of collecting data is the open that offers a comprehensive system of collecting data with minima limitation and draw backs. This method should be comprehensive to enable generalizability for the whole population. However, there are a number of factors that are put in to consideration when collecting data, noteworthy amongst them are validity and reliability of the results that would be realized after the research. Reliability in the research depends on the method of data collection used while the validity of the research depends on the layout of the questionnaire.

The researcher employed a multifarious deduction throughout the research. Research process is contemplated to ensure that an insightful idea is created to enable the researcher reach and a probable conclusion.

Search PhilosophyThese are the assumptions that underpin the research strategy and the method of data collection chosen. This research is mainly concerned with a subjective knowledge and interpretation of the phenomena is a social word basing on the general assumption that coherences in the social world are complex. On the other hand the research philosophy ion use is the positivism that argues that the research results can be generalised to cover the entire human population with respect to the general characteristics of the population under considerations.

Research ApproachThis research followed the deductive approaches of research as it tries to analyze the empirical data out of which the hypothesis was formed , it is therefore important to note the research approach in consideration should verify the causal relationship that in the existing theories.Quantitative and qualitative Approach to ResearchThe quantitative approach to research is the most effective method in the scientific researches however, this being a social research, the researcher made use if the qualitative research in which the data collected from the population of choice is categorized an analyzed based on the subjective understanding of the researcher. However, it is also important to note that due to the coherent weaknesses of the quantitative research, the researcher had to use quantitative research by analyzing the statistical data related to the Investigate Medical Tourism in Thailand to help him realize the research objectives. It is also noteworthy that quantitative research depend on the the establishment of the relationships between variables.

Research StrategyThe researched strategy of choice for this study was the deductive strategy as was easy to answer the research question with the aim of meeting the research objectives. Und this approach the formulated aims of the research were answered by effective test of the collected data. The researcher observed general theories and collected data. In this dissertation the deductive approach was chosen. General theories were observed out of which aims were formulated, a questionnaire to collect the data was set up that was essential to test those against existing literature to be able to either confirm or reject the original theories in the end.

Sampling and Data Collection for the Primary StudyData was collected by use of Likert type structured questionnaire, the questionnaires were self administered by the researcher. However, secondary study was conducted on the literature available on the Medical Tourism in Thailand such academic journal, social research report, industry magazines as well as course material available from the university library. Additionally, the internet was used to derive the most recent information on the Medical Tourism in Thailand. These data was used to test the hypothesis. It is important to note that one of the limitations of this research was time and access restriction. Therefore random sampling was done to get the population for research and restrict the confine the data collection to this particular group under the assumption that it would be generalised to represent the entire population

Data collection methodsThe research design employed by this study is the use of interviews where quantitative research methods will be used. Both primary and secondary data will be combined to realize the aim of this research. The rationale for using surveys and questionnaires was that they provided a simple and uncomplicated access to the study of values, and intention of the person who completed the instrument. Surveys or questionnaires may also be modified to collect general data from almost any human population. The data collected from surveys or questionnaires was both quantitative in nature. The presence of the interviewer can encourage participation and involvement and the interviewer can judge the extent to which the exercise is being treated seriously.

Data analysisThe data collected during the research was analyzed by use of SPSS. Before that data was analyzed it was coded and keyed into the SPSS. The SPSS was instrumental in the verification of the relationship between variable and analysis of the strength of the relationship that laws later used to make statistical inferences. However, it is imperative to note that the statistical inferences were based on the results of the analyzed data.
