Instructions:
Part 1: Devise (write) a hypothetical (2 pages)
Create a hypothetical capturing select major themes from the material provided below. Your hypothetical should pose difficult ethical considerations connected with a proposed US intelligence operation. Recommendation: You should have at least 3 ethical issues (topics) presented in your hypothetical.
Your hypothetical should be creative. The intent is to capture difficult ethical and privacy issues in intelligence operations.
Start for Hypothetical: The hypothetical should be about a covert operation you are conducting. Your source is providing information that is saving the lives of civilians and military members. During one of your meetings, you discover that your source is one of the master minds behind one of the largest sex
trafficking ring in the world. In recent days a shipment of human trafficking victims was discovered, and all the women were deceased ages raging from 12 years of age to 43 years old. Law enforcement and government officials have been looking to apprehend the leaders of the organization. However, during
your meeting with your source you find out about one of three attacks which are imminent pose a threat to government officials. In order to found out information about the other two attacks you must meet with your source at a later date and time. Should I turn in my source to law enforcement? Do I owe
my source any protection and an intelligence officer and non-law enforcement entity? What ethical does this situation present? How should I proceed, or should I proceed to meet with the source?
Part 2: Provide a PPT briefing: Next, it’s time to answer your hypothetical, presenting the guidance that you would give policymakers (using the material provided ensure that there is an explanation to why you are suggesting the information provided). The briefing and guidance you would provide the National
Security Advisor or other appropriate policy maker via PPT. Be sure to Add Speaker Notes.

Each student will complete a 15-page (double-spaced) written report designed to sharpen
analytical and writing skills and apply concepts and theories covered in class. Students will
choose a major U.S. federal agency (from a list provided by the instructor) for their reports. The
final written report has five parts, each focusing on a different aspect of organizations and
management, including the agency’s external environment; its formal structure and design; the
demographics of its workforce; communication within the agency; and the attitudes and
motivation of agency employees. The instructor will offer instructions and guidance on how to
complete each part of the agency report and allow ample time for discussion in class. Students will rely on a variety of resources to prepare their agency reports, including federal government documents and websites and federal employee survey data.

Video: While watching this video, “Anti-Semitism, Hitler’s Rise to Power,” and answer the following questions:
How did the economic depression help the Nazi Party rise to power?
How did Hitler grab power after being appointed Chancellor?
Primary Source Interpretation: Read “Propaganda and Mass Meetings in Nazi Germany,” p. 729, or 25-1c and then answer the following, aiming for a paragraph-length response (5-7 sentences):
In Hitler’s view, what would mass meetings accomplish for his movement? How do mass rallies further the development of nationalism?
Analysis: Use your textbook, pp. 728-730, to answer the following in a paragraph-length (5-7 sentences) response:
How did Hitler create a Nazi total state? Why do you think that he was more successful than Mussolini?
Citation: You do not need to include citation from the videos – simply answer the questions. For the paragraph-length responses, cite the text as: (Textbook, p. 727 or Textbook, 25-1c). You should have citation in each paragraph. Note that whole essays could be spent on the paragraph responses. In order to limit yourself to a paragraph, focus on specific examples. That will help you parse the information.
