Instructions
Use two evidence-based models to address a practice problem and respond the questions below in essay format. Be sure to integrate readings from at least 5 peer-reviewed articles.
Scenario
As staff nurses and leaders in various patient care areas, you are members of your institution’s EBP for Quality Care and Outcomes Team. The Risk Management Committee uses chart reviews and other review mechanisms to collect data about designated patient care, practice issues, patient safety, adherence to institutional policy and procedure, and outcomes. The Committee reports data and trends to your team. Their recent report trended inadequate/incomplete documentation of surgical time-out procedures (i.e., preoperative review among patient and surgical team to verify right patient, right surgery, right location, etc.).
Writing Prompts
What are the differences between the Stetler Model of Research Utilization to Facilitate EBP and The Iowa Model of Evidence-based Practice to Promote Quality Care? Do they seem to oppose or complement each other?
Think about the scenario above. How did you use the data to decide the problem/trigger?
What decisions and outcomes do you anticipate?
How did you use each model? What institutional stakeholders will be involved? What were your thoughts at various decision points?
What were your conclusion decisions about use of the evidence in practice?
Within your practice system, how will you communicate and disseminate the evidence and your review process?
Who will be responsible for applying/implementing your recommendations?
What outcomes do you plan to measure and monitor?
What do you think that practice in the problem area will look like in six months? In one year?
What barriers will you encounter to connect research to practice? What are your roles to address those barriers?

The Rump Organization
The Rump Organization (“Rump”), an SEC registrant, is a commercial real estate company that purchases and constructs
commercial property. On the basis of the corporate restructuring plan, Rump’s CEO, Ronald Rump, and Rump’s board of directo
approve a plan to terminate 100 of the company’s employees.
The plan provides for each terminated employee to receive a lump-sum cash payment equal to one month’s salary only if the
employee voluntarily signs a waiver of any right to legal action against Rump. Consistent with Rump’s past practice, employees
refuse to sign the litigation waiver will not receive any of the severance benefits.
Consider the following additional facts:
The corporate restructuring plan identifies the number of employees to be terminated (i.e., 100), the job classifications and locat
of each employee to be terminated, and the expected completion date of January 31, 2015.
The plan was approved on December 27, 2014, by Rump’s board of directors and Rump’s CEO, Ronald Rump.
The plan allows employees to leave Rump at any time, but no later than January 31, 2015. The employees must sign the waive
later than January 31, 2015.
On December 31, 2014, each affected employee was e-mailed a summary of all the plan’s terms, which included the amount of
severance benefits the employee would receive upon termination, subject to signing the litigation waiver by January 31, 2015. In
addition, Ronald Rump personally visited all 100 employees just to tell them, “You’re fired!”
Rump believes it is unlikely that significant changes will be made to the plan or that the plan will be withdrawn before its executio
Rump does not have a general policy regarding severance payments made to employees terminated without cause; however, it
in the past offered one-time severance benefits to employees being terminated as a result of workforce reduction plans. The
amounts and terms of the past one-time severance benefits varied according to the specific facts and circumstances at the time

terminations and were limited to a specified termination event or specified future period.

Founding fathers wanted the courts to be protected from politics
The Founding Fathers wanted the courts to be protected from politics. In what ways was the judiciary designed to limit the role of politics? Are the courts completely immune from politics in their work? Why or why not? What role does politics play in Supreme Court appointments and confirmation proceedings? Should there be term limits for federal judges, including Supreme Court justices? Why or why not?
The Lesson Writing Assignments are worth 100 points each. These exercises are to demonstrate that you have read the material and that you have thought about the issues. This assignment consists of producing an essay of at least 750 words (this is not a mandatory word count but an estimate of the minimum needed to properly complete the assignment) on the provided lesson topics, as well as a title page and works cited page with at least three sources (your textbook and two outside sources) containing information used in the essay. The assignment is to be formatted according to the American Psychological Association (APA Guide) style. You should use Arial or Times New Roman, 12 point font, double-spacing, and one inch margins on all four sides of the paper. Papers not formatted properly or with grammatical or spelling errors will lose points. The points lost will increase with each paper. For this class, abstracts are not needed since this is a smaller writing assignment. Also for this class, do not use direct quotes when writing your paper; paraphrase and cite instead. It is important to think critically about your chosen topic and clearly express your thoughts about it in writing. Where appropriate, make sure to include specific evidence and/or examples (along with appropriate citations). When writing your analysis, consider the eight standards for critical thinking (Paul and Elder, 2013): clarity, accuracy, precision, relevance, depth, breadth, logic, and fairness. Ask yourself questions, such as
How can I validate the accuracy of my statement?
How is this information relevant?
How does my conclusion address the complexities of the issue?
What is another interpretation or viewpoint of the issue?
Does my conclusion follow from the data and/or statements I have provided?
Is my writing detailed and demonstrates my mastery of the topic? (Don’t just give the “What” but also the “Why” and “How.”)
TIP: Use proper terminology and define that terminology when writing your paper. Also, use examples or data to support your opinions and statements. Submissions that are more comprehensive and detailed will earn a higher point total.
TIP: When writing your paper, be sure to answer the prompts using information provided in the assigned textbook (The correct answers will be found in your textbook). Use at least two additional sources to add to your responses to give your assignment greater breadth and depth. Be sure to specifically identify all sources with in-text citations when formatting your paper.
