Economic principles and their applications in the real world.

This assignment is aligned to these course outcomes:
Explain economic principles and their applications in the real world.
Summarize the different types of market structures and the role of government in economics.
In the workplace, we are often asked to create “briefs.” A brief provides a snapshot, or short,
written summary, of a situation or event that has occurred. It is generally just a few pages long
and may include additional visuals like a graph, chart, or table. In this assignment, write a brief
about economic concepts in an industry that interests you.
An example economic brief, template, and resources are provided below.

Example Economic Brief, Assignment 1 Template, Strayer Writing Standards (SWS)
Review an example brief.
Use the optional template to help you get started.
Get familiar with the Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). (See Instructions below.)
Industry Selection
Use this resource to select an industry and learn about the products and services it provides:
NAICS (North American Industry Classification System)
Select the number next to the industry to see its subsectors, e.g., select 52 to see Finance and
Insurance.
Select that same number again to read about the industry as a whole or select a sub-category.
For example, Mining is 21, and Oil and Gas Extraction, a sub-category, is 211.
Instructions
Review your previous chapter readings and use the resource above to develop an economic
brief that is two to three (2-3) pages long in which you:
Select an industry and describe the goods and/or services this industry produces. Use the NAICS resource above to help you select an industry (and/or subsector) for your brief.
Identify this industry’s market structure and at least two or more market characteristics that
support this market structure. (Market structures are covered in Weeks 3 and 4.)
Describe any notable microeconomic relationships, market outcomes, and/or trends in this
industry. Include a graph, chart, or table containing related data. (Microeconomic relationships
and market outcomes are covered in Weeks 2 through 4.)
How might government impact this industry’s market prices, output, and/or market structure?
(Government intervention through price controls, industry regulations, and antitrust enforcement
is covered in Weeks 2 and 4.)
This course requires use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different compared
to other Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for
details. (Note: You’ll be prompted to enter your Blackboard login credentials to view these
standards.)
Your brief should include a cover page.
Your brief should be two to three (2-3) pages in length (not including the cover page), doublespaced, 12-point font.
Your brief should include a minimum of one (1) reference/citation in the text.

Max’s Case Study

Instructions for case formulation: Use one of the summaries that can be found in the icon “Case
Studies” to consider developmental issues regarding current functioning in academics, behavior,
and social/peer relationships (Jennifer or Max). Consider current environment; placement history,
if any; trauma
history; and parenting style and practice, if applicable.
Developmental Formulation
You have been given an intake form with information about a child seeking treatment. The
questions below will guide you to consider important dimensions of the child’s case. This is an
opportunity to apply the different concepts you have learned throughout this course.

Your responses should demonstrate (1) that you are able to identify risk and protective factors in
children, (2) that you can develop hypotheses about how these factors impact child functioning,
and (3) that your hypotheses are evidence-informed and you are aware of important theories and
relevant research. The rubric that will be used to grade this assignment is attached to your
syllabus.
1. Prenatal/Biological Factors
a. Identify prenatal and physiological factors (e.g., brain development) which may have impacted
this child’s functioning. Include protective factors as well as factors that may increase the
likelihood of negative developmental outcomes.
b. Discuss potential implications of these prenatal factors for the child’s current and future
functioning.
2. Cognitive & Language Development
a. Identify and discuss factors in this child’s early (postnatal) environment, which may contribute
to his/her cognitive and language development? What is his/her current functioning in these
areas and what might be expected in the future without intervention?

3. Temperament and Attachment
a. Generate hypotheses about this child’s temperament and attachment type? What is your best
guess regarding temperament and attachment style with primary caregiver. Support your
answers based on the specifics of the case.
b. How do these factors (temperament & attachment) likely relate to the child’s current
functioning and to the likelihood of future functioning?
4. Family and Ecological Factors & Socialization
Identify and describe the parenting style (Baumrind) most likely evident by this child’s primary
caregiver. Explain the reason for your choice.
Identify family socialization variables that may serve as risk or protective factors in this child’s
development. Consider relevant factors associated with multiple family systems (parent-child,
parent-parent, etc). How do they impact his/her current functioning?
Extra-familial Factors (Peers, School, Media) & Socialization
Identify and describe socialization variables outside of the family (school, media, and peers) that
may have served as risk or protective factors in this child’s development. What implications do these have on the child’s current and future functioning if no intervention is received?
Discuss the child’s social status and implications for current and future functioning.
The case formulation should be about 6 pages.

Three Ethical Perspectives

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, read Chapters 1 and 2 from your text. In
Chapter 1, you studied the three ethical perspectives (relativism, emotivism, and ethical egoism),
and in Chapter 2, you saw examples of how to apply ethical theories and perspectives to various
concrete issues. The purpose of this discussion is to help you understand and apply ethical
perspectives. Prepare and post a response to the following prompt:
Define and contrast the three ethical perspectives.
How do the perspectives differ from the ethical theories?
What does each ethical perspective tell us about morality and virtue?
Think of an issue that has occurred in the community where you live during this past year. This
may be a public issue that has generated interest in the press, or it may be something that has
come up in your child’s school, in your church, in a social club you belong to, or in your
neighborhood. Describe the issue, and then analyze the issue from the viewpoint of one of the
ethical perspectives. Include at least one external source that references your issue (e.g., a
newspaper article, news report, published report, etc.).
