Drug addiction and Human Behavior

A general assumption is made by members of the society that there is a close relationship between drug addiction and crime. That most drug addicts are criminals and most criminals are drug addicts, this assumption is the basis of our study. To try and search for the validity of this assumption by conducting a study that will indicate the truth. Other assumptions about drug abuse and drug addiction include drug addicts are dirty and lead miserable lives. This paper is a study into these assumptions about drug abuse.

Components of the design

The design has comprises of a direct study on the subject of drug addiction and criminality. The aim is to conduct a behavioral study on drug addicts and on people convicted for different crimes. This will enable us to get a clear understanding of the relationship between drug abuse and crime. To understand if being a drug addict makes you turn to crime and other factors that lead people to crime other than drug addiction.

There are two components under investigation in this study the relationship between drug addiction and crime. Another component is other factors that lead people to crime other than drug abuse. This two will help us understand human behavior that surrounds drug addiction and crime.

The Design

The reasoning behind the design is to take advantage of close contact with victims in order to understand human behavior in a wider perspective. Behavior can only been understood by direct contact with the groups we have an interest in. Close monitoring of their lifestyle for a short period of time will help me demystify the assumptions about drug abuse and crime. I have a chance to get unbiased information from the affected groups and from this information get a conclusion.

The advantage of working with first-hand information cannot be overemphasized. It helps in creating a deeper understanding of the matter.

The design tactic

This design is observational. No tests are conducted; therefore it cannot be termed as experimental. Also a conclusion is drawn immediately after the design is implemented unlike in an experiment where conclusions are made after a while.

The observational aspect of the design comes in a first-hand basis. Through direct observation and interviews of the groups named this design will obtain its results. Various methods will be used; however, the team conducting the study will be part of all methods to take in all observations.

Reasons for choosing this design

This design model provides for a first hand source of information. This is the best way to get data from the groups both drug addicts and people who have been convicted for different crimes.

There are other advantages and disadvantages of using this design;

Advantages

We will obtain information direct from those who have real life experiences.

Close interactions will give us a chance to understand other issues surrounding drug abuse and crime.

Firsthand information will be obtained and it will be used for reference by other groups who may be interested in the same matter.

Disadvantage

There is one main disadvantage in this design is convincing people to speak openly about their drug addiction or their past crime life. Most people may tent to hide some information from the interviewer, the hidden information may be very vital in understanding the issue. People may also not turn up to help out in the study; this will leave me without any data to get a conclusion from. When there is no group to be studied and observed information may be falsified by other groups just to come up with a study.

Types of bias on this design

There have been many misconceptions that surround drug abuse. It has been said that use of drugs leads to crime, here drug abuse is not considered as a crime. Implementing this design while bearing these misconceptions in mind may hinder the validity of the results. This will be conducting the study with an already made up mind, this is a major hindrance in the study.

An already made up mind regarding the matter is the bias for our design. This will interfere with the results and the study will not be a good base of making a conclusion.

In conclusion

This design is the best way to collect first-hand information in the study. First-hand information is the best way to make a conclusion in the matter. This will also provide a basis for understanding drug abuse and human behavior by direct interaction with members of these groups. Other factors that affect crime and other effects on human behavior due to drug abuse will be easily highlighted using this design.

This design will create precedence for other researchers to analyze the data collected and do their studies on the same matters.
