Historical Events in Strengthening and Conditioning

World War II

The Second World War is one of the modern historical events that played a role in developing strengthening and conditioning. The Second World War was a labor-intensive undertaking in the 20TH century, and many countries had not prepared for the time it dragged on. During the war, many countries expanded their military personnel quickly and as demand increased spontaneously. As more men were drafted into the army and police forces, there was a realization that most of those recruited were unfit for combat. After the war, there was a realization that draftees needed to undergo cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility, and strength testing to promote their fitness. The battle was necessary as there was increased interest in fitness as many people started to be interested in strengthening and conditioning their body muscles. I feel that the Second World War played a role in creating awareness of the need for people to live a healthier lifestyle. After the war ended, many former soldiers returned to their communities and established fitness centers, encouraging more people to start muscle strengthening and conditioning.

The Election of John F. Kennedy as president

Another historical event that led to the popularity of strengthening and conditioning was the election of President John F. Kennedy. He became a significant promoter of fitness, which influenced people to adopt healthier lifestyles across all ages. He changed the President’s Council on Youth Fitness to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness headed by Bud Wilkinson. Many pilot youth fitness centers were established. The election of John F. Kennedy into office was critical in the evolution of strengthening and conditioning in the country. It encouraged more people to ride instead of walking and engage in sports rather than being spectators. I feel that President John F. Kennedy became an inspiration for many Americans to live a healthier lifestyle and be fit, resulting in the rapid expansion of muscle strengthening and conditioning to ensure endurance.

Where the industry is now and what to expect for the future.

Activity trackers are a big trend in the fitness industry as people want to track their exercises and movements. Wearable technology is a multi-billion dollar industry, and we can expect it to continue expanding. I think that more of these wearables will be improved to better monitor metrics like stress levels, temperatures, walking distance, and sleep. We can also expect virtual fitness groups to dominate the fitness industry as more people adopt technology to collectively work with others to achieve their fitness goals.
