Preliminary Design stages of a Hydro-Power Power Plant (Assignment)

Firstly, the report should start with the introduction which should include:
1. Hydro-power scheme importance and its impact on the environment and what it is used for in
general. Then it should explain the development of the hydro-power in the specified area as its
discussed in the uploaded files (page 1, introduction part) i.e. talk about the features of the area
and the development of the hydro-power in this area as well as the reason behind the
development of the hydro-power. furthermore, what are the proposal for development of the
area.
2. The design objectives. which also outlined in the uploaded files (page 1, design objectives
part) i.e. this part should explain the objectives of the design and what is required to achieve the
development of the hydro-power scheme.

The second part of the report is about the reservoir storage: (page 5, storage requirements part)
i.e. this chapter should include the design method used to design the storage requirements and
the importance of calculating and determining the requirements of the storage. In addition, this
part should talk about the rate of the reservoir filling with sediments and the lost volume of the
reservoir (page 5, under estimation of the rate part) i.e. it should explain the importance of
calculating the rate of the reservoir filling with sediments and the lost volume, the method used to
calculate the rates and the empirical formulas used.
The third part of the report is about the turbine specifications which should include:
1. The design method or installation methods used to install the four Francis Turbines for the
purpose of a hydro-power design and why for example this method is best among other
methods. The efficiency of the four Francis turbines and what speed each should run at and their
advantages. The advantages of using 4 turbines instead of using 1 or 2 with mentioning some
reasons behind the use of 4 turbines instead of 1 or 2 ( for example; maintenance and so on).
Differences between Pelton and Francis turbines in terms of efficiency and the speed each can
run at.
2. Health+ safety regarding the installation of the Francis turbine and its design for the purpose
of developing a hydro-power scheme.
3. Ethics
4. Cost+budgeting regarding the design of four Francis Turbines
5. A sketch that shows the size of a Francis Turbine and its dimensions (the dimension are
included in the uploaded file) i.e. draw a sketch that shows the dimensions of the turbine house
size using the uploaded data. Also, a figure that shows the number of turbines plotted agains the efficiency of speed of each number (using the uploaded calculations, excel file) i.e. (one number
of turbine run at speed, two numbers of turbines run at speed, etc)
Last part of the report is the references.
