Resume Advice to a Friend
Dear Arlene,
How are you doing? I trust this email finds you well.
I write in response to your recent application for a social worker position at the City of Plantation. I have taken the time to read through your application and come up with the following insights that might boost your chances of selection in the future.
While it is clear that you made quite an effort to craft the application, I must mention that the resume could use a few touch-ups to make your application more outstanding.
The first suggestion is that should ensure that your resume showcases a basic understanding of your skills or talents. As the hiring manager reads through your resume, they should be in a position to pinpoint the skills that make you stand out for the role. You should see this as an opportunity to sell your strengths and get the position. Secondly, you should demonstrate that you understand the role that you are applying for. You can do this by convincing the hiring manager that you understand what the organization is looking for. Furthermore, your resume should always be customized for that specific position. I have noticed that while your resume fit well for the social worker position you were applying for, it had lots of generalities. It did not illustrate the outcome or achievements of your previous positions. I recommend you incorporate them as they tend to go a long way in selling you for the position. Fourthly, I would recommend getting more creative with your resume format. For instance, consider incorporating a colored passport photo as part of your header. Finally, I would advise that you include a referees section. A list of referees is important to show credibility to the hiring manager. Showing credibility is important as it sells you as a great ambassador for the position. Additionally, a list of referees is helpful to the hiring manager as it gives them a point of reference when running background checks for qualified candidates.
regards,
