Analyze an Important Contemporary Moral Issue

Analyze an Important Contemporary Moral Issue

The paper will analyze an important contemporary moral issue. Review both sides of the issue
you choose, and determine your stance. Refer to the 2 ethical theories, (ethical egoism and
moral relativism.)
Examples of moral issues:
Distribution of wealth; torture and terrorism; abortion; euthanasia (medically-assisted suicide);
genetic engineering (cloning, or stem cell research); LGBT concerns; gender roles; affirmative
action; pornography; prostitution; sexual harassment; punishment (death penalty); war; animal rights; climate change; polygamy, etc.
Introduction: Briefly describe the moral issue you have chosen to write about.
State that you will defend your position on the issue by referencing the ethical theories you will
reference.
Briefly mention why you think this is an important issue for others to think about.
Your next section should deal with the first side of the moral issue you are discussing.
Explain why people on this side of the argument feel the way they do on the issue.
In the next section, you’ll repeat this process for the opposite side.
Once you’ve described the opposing views on the issue both fairly and objectively, you’ll then
bring ethical theories into the discussion.
In this section, you’ll refer to the ethical theories to establish which of the two views seems to be
the most ethical.
Once you’ve discussed how the ethical theories affect the moral issue you’re writing about, you can wrap everything up with a summary paragraph or two.
You must cite two outside sources in your paper, other than the texts we’ve read for class.
