Week 5 – Assignment Compensation Philosophy
Compensation Philosophy
Evaluate the current compensation philosophy for your organization or an organization of your choosing (from a third-person perspective). Write a three-to-five page paper (not including the title and reference pages). Your paper should be written in a scholarly third-person tone; it should be in APA format. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, your paper should address the following:
- Evaluate the organization’s current compensation philosophy and propose ways to enhance or revamp the current compensation philosophy to meet the changing needs of the organization and its employees.
- Examine key factors within the internal and external environment including the mission and strategic focus of the organization, as well as the financial and cultural aspects of your organization (i.e., they cannot have a compensation philosophy where they “lead” the market if the organization does not have the financial resources) that should influence this philosophy. The proposed philosophy itself should be no more than a short paragraph.
- Identify the key factors that should contribute to the organization’s development based on your proposed organizational philosophy.
Remember to write from a third-person perspective. Do not include wording like “my company’s philosophy is …” Instead include wording like “XYZ Company Name’s philosophy is …” Remember to write about the company and the company’s philosophy; do not refer to you or your connection to the company.
In addition to the text, cite at least two scholarly references to support your discussion.

MANAGEMENT COMMUNICATIONS
Start by reading and following these instructions:
1. Quickly skim the questions or assignment below and the assignment rubric to help you focus.
2. Read the required chapter(s) of the textbook and any additional recommended resources. Some answers may require you to do additional research on the Internet or in other reference sources. Choose your sources carefully.
3. Consider the discussion and the any insights you gained from it.

WEEK 1 Assignment:
Answer these essay questions:
- Explain how the behavioral approach differs from the contingency approach to management communication.
- Read Case 1-3 of the textbook and answer the three questions related to the case. Also explain how management communication would have to change for Kathy if she were to take the company internationally and employ people over the age of 75.
- Read Case 2-3 of the textbook and answer the True/False and essay questions.
- In your own words, explain the three layers of managerial communication. Then think of a specific business situation you’ve experienced where there was a miscommunication. Use the onion model to explain where and how (which layer) the communication issue occurred, and how you would apply the material from Chapter 2 to ensure this type of failure doesn’t happen again.
Assignment Expectations:
Length: 1500 -1700-words; answers must thoroughly address the questions in a clear, concise manner.
Structure: Include a title page and reference page in APA style. These do not count towards the minimal word amount for this assignment.
References: Use the appropriate APA style in-text citations and references for all resources utilized to answer the questions. Include at least three (3) scholarly sources to support your claims.
Format: Save your assignment as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx).

WEEK 2 Assignment:
Answer these essay questions:
- Explain how communication technology has advanced in the United States in the past five years and how these changes have affected the management process. Include how these changes impact older works and workers from different cultural backgrounds. Then predict how you think communication technology may change in the next five years and the impact it could potentially have.
- Read Case 3-3 of the textbook and complete the Project requirement.
- Read the Back to School (Case 7-1) of the textbook and answer the questions.
- Complete Sections 1, 2, and 5 (A, B, and E for hard-copy textbooks) in the Exercises for Small Groups at the end of Chapter 7. Also explain which exercise you found most difficult and which you found least difficult, and why.

After reading and reflecting on this case, please answer the questions at the end of the case in a Word document a minimum of 1 full page, double spaced and submit it where indicated below..
