Does Cosmetic surgery hinder self-esteem?
These very question stands to be the most challenging question in the present world based on the fact that most people care about their looks more than what they feel. Consequentially, many people have thus decided to take a step into cosmetic surgery so as to improve their looks without considering the impacts of the same (Soren Askegaard, Martine Cardel Gertsen, & Roy Langer, 2002).
To most people, men are minds, power and the amount of money they have and no one cares about what face they carry or wear or necessarily their physical outlooks. Conversely, this is not the case for women. In most cases women are beautiful based on their appearances of their bodies as well as their facial looks. In the present day world, most people want to look more perfect and beautiful due to some reason well known to them and others exposed by research. In such instances, you find most people struggling to do anything that it takes to ensure that they fulfill their physical looks needs. Well, Cosmetic surgery can be defined as a modern variation practice that is dedicated to facial reconstruction as well as resolving body defects due to trauma, burns, birth disorders and diseases, hat is basically unusual looks caused by abnormal circumstances. The main goal to be achieved by cosmetics surgery is to provide necessary corrections to some dysfunctional body parts or even parts of the bodies which do not really appear attractive not only to the next person as well as to the person who possesses them. Well, this practice has been an issue of debate where some individuals claim that cosmetic surgery boosts self-esteem while other people argue that it hinders self-esteem; cosmetic surgery is a practice that hinders self-esteem as people fail to appreciate themselves just the way they are and seek for perfectionism. Well conversely, people with disorders tend to appreciate their resumed looks by cosmetic surgery which can thus be a clear base of the course that the duo is as important as it is not important to those who do not appreciate it.
In this theses we will have a look on the cosmetic surgery advantages and disadvantages based on their impacts on the patients. The research as well will relate the advantages and the disadvantages on the fact of the level of self-esteem. The level of self-esteem thus in this very case will be ranked based on parity; the negative and positive side of the course. Personally, I believe that cosmetics surgery stands a great chance in the present world. Well, some people undergo the same for their celebrity looks while other undertake the same duo to some unusual activities happened in their lives. Basically, I would say, take for instance the most famous musician in the world appearing to people in some funny curved legs. My question is, what would be the crowd’s applause on the same? Well, the answers remains clear in that, no one would really like to hear a good voice coming from a person who never looks pleasing. Thus that stands my position in that cosmetic surgery helps celebrities acquire expected looks from their fans. Well too, normally take an instance of a mother who has a burnt face. It happened she suffered a burn in the past. She gains courage and undergoes a cosmetic surgery. In the end, her kids will also be in a position to say that their mum looks great and will not at all be ashamed of her in public (Serpil & Uluşahin, 2002).
Cosmetic surgery undermines and hinders self-esteem and makes individuals not accept themselves as they are. These very perception is based on celebrities. If people loved and liked themselves, they wouldn’t feel the need of changing themselves. Women specifically are conditioned to look better. There is so much pressure to be thin and beautiful and this causes immense self-loathing amounts and emotional distress in women all over the world. Cosmetic surgery makes people feel less confident as they always think that other people like a fake version of them. It is not nature’s true reflection as it is intended and leads people to feel less in tune with themselves. Just like the prefix to the word self-esteem states, self-esteem is entirely dictated to one’s SELF. We have all heard the famous quote that states that,” We should first love ourselves and everything else around us falls into line,” in all aspects of life but as cliché as it might sound, most individuals have forgotten about it, and that is why most plastic surgeons’ advice their patients to never get any procedure for anybody but for themselves (Lowery, Kurpius, Befort, Blanks, Sollenberger, Nicpon, & Huser, 2005).
Self-esteem is a matter of believing in oneself. That is feeling good of yourself the way you are without adding any extra forces or booster. As per the previous research, it has thus been noted that, cosmetics does not boost self-esteem but just allows mood change. By definition, we refer moods as and emotional state which is based on the psychological nature in humans. Mood defers largely from self-esteem since it’s an impact of physical outlook but not necessarily sense of believing in oneself regardless of their present situation. Arguably, we say that the impact of cosmetics to women is just a foreign look which can never last for a longer period of time. A look that has to be maintained not by normal conditions but by subjecting themselves into some unusual lives which require them to be cautious of their own normal moves (Leary, Tchividijian, & Kraxberger, 1994).
Arguably, most women thrive to acquire looks which well they look admirable but still in the real sense, the fact remains that these very looks are not real. Beauty is natural and can never be acquired in any means at any given time. If at any instance this very beauty is acquired through cosmetic then we refer to that kind of beauty as man-made or artificial beauty. Artificial beauty never boosts self-image but rather tends to give a fake image which can never last for a long period of time. Artificial beauty acts as just a personal admiration which puts to no consideration the fact that one needs to achieve some personal feelings on one self. Cosmetic surgery will thus rely on the personal perspective that personal achievements are attained (Leary, Tchividijian, & Kraxberger, 1994).
Presently, men have thus been part of the discussion in today’s world. Basically, men want to acquire looks which they really don’t have genetically, this very point is based on the fact that these very males want to acquire as well as maintain a specific kind of image. In this regard, men have thus made a step in acquiring this very looks throw cosmetic surgery which thus remains to be the largest threat of all time. Research states that, cosmetic surgery should at not any time be used to improve or alter the genetically characterized parts of a human body. In today’s world, men and women are at this very point where they are like in the same path. They are sharing the same problems which in fact seems to be something risky. A man really knows he is and will never be masculine but wants to acquire some artificial masculinity. Well the result will be the man will achieve the look but forgetting what will follow after all. Altering the body system will thus result the individual being uncomfortable. It also may result to amputation which in the real cases will reduce self-esteem to the least levels ever experienced based on the fact the person looks far much different as well as having a world of regrets in that they feel they could have made another decision rather than what they decided to do (Leary, Tchividijian, & Kraxberger, 1994).
It has been argued that, cosmetic surgery brings in the sense of self-realization. Well yes, that might be the case but the fact is what follows after a “successful” surgery? It would thus be realized that control measures have to be taken in order to ensure that the artificially acquired looks must be as well be maintained physically. This very fact is well a part of understanding in that individuals tend to have a reflective self-construction identity which results to self-esteem, self-determination as well as an improvement in self relationship based various critical or affected parts of their bodied. Regardless of the same course highlighting the benefits of cosmetics surgery as one source of self-esteem which personally I will call “fake” self-esteem and “fake” self-realization. It comes to attention that, most of the patients who undergo this very process later in their lives become culprits of opportunistic diseases like cancer. Mostly, this surgeries are performed under the presence of ultra-violet rays which tend to degrade human body immunity (Lowery, Kurpius, Befort, Blanks, Sollenberger, Nicpon, & Huser, 2005).
Cosmetics surgery ted to reduce human source of self-esteem. As I said earlier, self-esteem is an inherent aspect that will and should at no any point taken for granted? Surgery presents a fake version of who you are. Realization thus enables an individual to as well identify the reasons as to why they are accepted or rejected by the friends or even their closest people. Well, realizing that the artificial features that they have are the ones that create the impact, then we say that it’s of no true nature and importance to undergo the same (Lowery, Kurpius, Befort, Blanks, Sollenberger, Nicpon, & Huser, 2005).
Consequentially, the results of the surgery might not converge to expectations but rather get to diverge to the unexpected. The results of the surgery are not usually easy to cope with. Many people tend to act like they did the worst mistake ever in their lives. Which in fact might sound as the case. For instance, a person who extends her hips artificially will at the end of time realize that people close to her do not appreciate her look since it’s not natural rather but an artificially acquired physical look. This very reaction will thus act as a draw back in that this very individual’s people never see them as the people they were but rather portrays them as different people. This very fact explains that, at the later end this very culprits will end up not accepting themselves which thus impacts negatively on their self-esteem (Soren Askegaard, Martine Cardel Gertsen, & Roy Langer, 2002).
In conclusion, we say that cosmetic surgery has both advantages and disadvantages which in this very case are based on the impact, first person and second person applause: this very findings are as well as per the results from the surgery. Cosmetic surgery boosts and degrades self-esteem at the same time but not in the same individuals. A surgery which impacts negative results thus makes the patient’s self-esteem to go down, while too if the results and the applause tend to take a positive view then the patients self-esteem tends to get normal (Leary, Tchividijian, & Kraxberger, 1994).

To most people, men are minds, power and the amount of money they have and no one cares about what face they carry or wear. It is intended to correct some dysfunctional body parts.
Whatever the reasons are, many individuals than ever are reporting that they are not contented and happy with the way they look. Additionally, studies have proven that happiness is directly linked to people’s self-perception of physical attractiveness. Thus, it isn’t surprising that most people are pleased with the results they achieve after they undergo cosmetic surgeries and affirm that they feel much better about themselves (Llewellyn 29). While some people argue that cosmetic surgery can help improve the self-worth, self-esteem and confidence, those individuals who expect total and complete transformation can be totally disappointed.
Cosmetic surgery undermines and hinders self-esteem and makes individuals not accept themselves as they are. If people loved and liked themselves, they wouldn’t feel the need of changing themselves. Women specifically are conditioned to look better. There is so much pressure to be thin and beautiful and this causes immense self-loathing amounts and emotional distress in women all over the world (Serpil & Uluşahin 452). Cosmetic surgery makes people feel less confident as they always think that other people like a fake version of them. IntroductionFor over 30 years, Al Merik Surfboard Company has been referred by many as a world leader in the production of surfboards .the Company has been producing more world champions’ board than anyone in history. Products from Al Merik Surfboard Company are known all over the world and they have been quite marketable abroad. Despite the presence in the world, AL Merik Surfboard Company has never ventured into exporting its surfboards to Japan. The paper is a proposal on the basic idea to the Vice president of Al Merik Surfboard Company on how their surfboards can be marketed internationally.
Before embarking on the introduction of a product that is fairly new to market, it is mandatory to carry out market research on the particular new market. There are therefore various important factors that have to be considered when looking at Japan as a potential market for surfboards abroad. These factors are:
GeopoliticalBefore surfboards to Japan the geographical and political situation in Japan should be thoroughly examined. First of all Japans geographic location presents a challenge for exporting Surfboards into the country. Japan is located in the Pacific Ocean and lies east of the Sea of Japan, North Korea, China, South Korea and Russia. This does not hinder the exportation of surfboards into Japan since there is an effective logistic system that will ensure the products securely reach the destination.
Japans demographic provide both an opportunity and a challenge when it comes to marketing of surfboards. First of all Japan is ranked tenth when it comes to population in the world. Japan has a population of over 125 million people. This is a great opportunity since a high population is an indication of a large market for products exported to the country. However Japan has a very serious demographic disadvantage since its population is seen to be ageing and shrinking. This situation is not so very serious as yet but in decades to come the situation will have escalated. The working population in Japan between the age of 15 and 24 has declined by 6% in the past decade. This fall is stipulated to be steeper in the next decade meaning that the market for the surfboards will be declining.
Despite globalization of business companies have to ensure that they abide by the rules and regulations which are set in the countries where they operate in. Japan is an established democracy therefore there is a high level of political stability in the country. The political stability in Japan will encourage trade and therefore it will be easy to export surfboards to the country. Other multinational companies in Japan are doing fairly well since the political climate is favorable for their existence and continued stay in the country. Surfboards have become quite popular in Japan and there are some local companies which have taken up the production of surfboards. There is also a growing culture of home board building which has gained a lot of popularity. This is not a big competition since pro shapers still occupy a large market and therefore surfboard exports will attract more people since they have been professionally done and since they are imports they will be considered to be better.
Cultural IssuesJapan is becoming more westernized and American things are now becoming trendier. Among the things that are becoming trendy in Japan are surfboards. The surf culture in Japan is what will affect the business plan of exporting surfboards to Japan. This unique surf culture came to Japan with the hippie movement that took place in the 1960s.it was not until the late 70s that surfing became popular particularly for teens who liked competing. Surfboards then became popular and surfing was a trend for families and even older people and not just the youth for leisure. Now a large variety of people really enjoy surfing in japan. Surfing culture has evolved in Japan such that surfing is enjoyed by anyone and everyone wherever waves are found.
With a very high population of about 125 million it means that Japan will provide a large market for surfboards. The surfing culture is not in the young only even the old are now taking up surfing for leisure. This means that the surfboard market in Japan is very large due to the high population. Japanese people also enjoy high living standards. About 90% of the population terms them selves as being part of the middle class. This means that a large percentage of the population can easily afford the surfboards thus a large market.it is quit easy to reach potential surfboard customers in Japan .this can be done through carrying out online advertisement. Japan is a country where technology is at peak therefore it is quite easy to reach potential customers online. Surfboards have a high market value in fact there is an increase in surf tourism in Japan .tourists are coming to japan to enjoy surfing in the waves. Surf tourism has also increased the, market value of surfboards a great deal (Weinberg, 2013).
Legal and Tax EnvironmentThere are rules and regulations that govern trade in every country. These legal entities exist in the country that is exporting the products and the country that is receiving the products. Al Merik Surfboard Company is based in the U.S.A meaning that there are rules which U.S.A has established that the company has to follow. Secondly there are also rules set by the recipient company bin this case Japan which the company has to adhere with before the export anything to Japan (Cooper, 2013).
Japan and U.S.A have had strong relations for a very long time. This relationship has been strengthened and improved over time. The two countries have a bilateral relation that makes it easy for trade to take place freely between the tow countries. However there are instances where some trade restrictions have occurred hence restricting importation or exportation of particular products (Tanaka, 2013). There are also some trade treaties that have been signed between the two countries that make it possible for trade to take place between the two countries. The existence of some tariffs imposed on some goods is a way of controlling the trade between the two nations. Without the existence of these tariffs then it would be quite meaningless for trade to take place between the tow since the process will not be well coordinated. Intellectual property protection is important for any product that is being imported and exported. This is because it will prevent any form of duplication of the product since the rights are fully owned by a particular producer. Therefore surfboards being exported to Japan from the U.S.A are fully patented which prevents any form of theft of idea. The surfboards will also be charged VAT which is mandatory for any goods that are entering any country (McCulloch,1987).
MarketingThe culture and geopolitical climate in Japan will be a great influence on which the surfboards will be marketed in the country. The culture of the people in japan plays a vital role in marketing since their cultural beliefs will be put into consideration before coming up with a marketing strategy. Using a marketing tool that is not in line with the culture in Japan will mean that the product will not even be considered by the potential customers. Therefore, when coming up with the marketing plan the culture of the people should be put into consideration so as to capture as many potential customers as possible.
You should ensure that you adequately market the surfboards using online media, television advisement and magazines. This should include a detailed description of the surfboards so as the potential customers will have adequate knowledge of the product hence make an informed decision on whether they should purchase it or not. You should ensure that the surfboards are fully stocked in stores of all the major cities within Japan. An online should also be created where people purchase online and the delivery is made promptly without any form of delay. This will ensure that even those who are not able to reach the stores physically are still able to purchase the surfboards without any hustle whatsoever. We expect to penetrate a great deal of the market and leave no one out. This product is not only intended for the young but the young at heart too. The initial marketing costs are expected to be very high since the company has never ventured into Japan before. Japan is a new market therefore a lot of resources should be put in to ensure that the potential customers are fully captured. should be expected that the product will not do very well in the first few months since it is relatively a new brand name .however as time goes by the sales will go up as soon as the products is fully known in the market.
Pricing and Currency IssuesThe surfboards will not cost the same in Japan as they do in U.S.A. The production cost of a surfboard is approximately between $200 and 225.the manufacture sells to shops at $300.however retailers are expected to mark the price up to $400.this are not the prices we expect for surfboards in Japan. this is because there will be transportation costs as well as taxes that have to be paid when exporting the surfboards to Japan.. All these costs incurred have to be factored into the price of the surfboard .at the same time the company has to make some profit at the end of the day. This is because every business is started for the purpose of making profits. Therefore the final cost of the surfboard in Japan is expected to be close to $ 500.this is the price which we sell directly to the customers. Selling will not be done through intermediaries. However if one wants to sell the surfboards individually they will be expected to buy them directly from the U.S.A and met their own transport and taxation costs. When they buy them there they will be charged $300 just as other retailers. We will only sell on cash on delivery basis. This is for the final users so as to reduce any chances of defaulters in payment. Incase one is buying directly from us in the U.S.A we will require a bank letter of credit so as to prove they are trust worthy to receive any form of credit (Rizzo ,2010).
LogisticsLogistics is a very important market when it comes to the exportation of products. This is because the products have to get to the market and there are some logistics to be followed before this is done. Japan has evolved into an economic heavy weight despite of its challenging geographic conditions. The most important freight transport in Japan is road and coastal shipping. Sea freight has now been shifted to air transport .as compared to other industrial countries the distribution system is Japan is a very complex one. Goods distributions are under a tight regulation by the government. Joint distribution is something that is very common whereby competitors that make deliveries to same businesses use joint delivery capacities. Logistics companies in Japan are now trying to strengthen their position in land, sea and air transport through multimodal shipping provided by one source (Discover logistics, 2008).
