The book review is about the short stories written by Doyle Arthur Conan known as ‘Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’. It is a book that has received worldwide acclamation due to the manner, which has been depicted by Conan. Furthermore, the book makes one sympathize with the various characters in the short stories. It is extremely fascinating as the tone is one that is serious and at the same time enjoyable. There is a collection of twelve short stories in ‘Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’. Some of them include; The Beryl Coronet, The Five Orange Pips, and Scandal in Bohemia, among others.

This paper will focus upon the work of Doyle Conan in coming up with this work of literature.

Critical analysis of the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

In the collection of short stories many mysteries take place, and in various locations. There is a colonel who goes to his mail and finds five seeds. In the coming few weeks, the colonel loses his life in circumstances that are unknown. Just after a wedding ceremony, a bride disappears never to be seen. A jewel is stolen, and the only clues that can lead to its discovery are a Christmas goose and an old hat. Furthermore, a father is murdered, and the main suspect is the son. The mentioned mysteries are the ones that Sherlock Holmes has to find the answers. Those in need of his services find him in his residence, in Baker Street. Sherlock Holmes is described as being extremely sleuth and is known for his impressive investigative skills. Moreover, he has can easily deduct any case through his impressive powers. The major themes in the book are admiration, alcohol, drugs, class and society, among others. They have been clearly defined in the various short stories, through the excellent use of the characters.

One should read the ‘Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’. The book is often regarded as a classic, as it is one that has been read by many generations. Many people have heard about Sherlock Holmes, but once they read this book, they will be impressed. The character displayed by Sherlock Holmes is quite admirable, and, in fact, he might be regarded as one of the best literary characters. Sherlock Holmes is eccentric, unconventional, as well as intelligent. On the other hand, he can be described as being a man, who is bohemian also, a know-it-all. As one reads the book, they become inquisitive as it is engaging, due to the many cases, which Sherlock Holmes has to solve. In my opinion, the Blue Carbuncle and the Scandal in Bohemia are the most fascinating short stories.

I would make sure that everyone I meet would read the book, as it is appealing. Sherlock Holmes and Conan Doyle have been introduced well, and it is easy to read the short story mysteries. The characters are interesting; especially Sherlock Holmes who I believe can be described as being a book genius. Also, Doyle’s writing skills are exceptional and cannot be denied. Indeed, ‘Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’ is not disappointing in any way.

In conclusion, acknowledgement should be given to the great author Sir Doyle Conan. His exceptional skills have made Sherlock Holmes infamous all over the world. Most people who have read this book can attest that it is a great mystery book. By choosing to read this book, the character of Sherlock Holmes will forever exist. There are no more words that can describe the brilliance of ‘Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’.

In an article by Edward Hubbard titled ‘The Business Case for Diversity’, a lot is mentioned concerning the advantages that occur as a result of practicing diversity management that is effective. Many reasons are usually given by managers concerning why they need to participate in diversity management. Some believe that they have to work with the diverse groups as the management has made it mandatory. On the other hand, there are others who believe that diversity management is the right thing to do. Fortunately, modern managers are aware about what can take place at the work place, if they are able to ensure that their diverse work force is managed. There are many strategies as well as concepts that can describe how business performance is affected by diversity. They include; innovation, creativity, problem-solving strategies, as well as marketing strategies. The mentioned factors are all ways through, which an organization can increase its revenues.

The article by Vincent Cramer is titled ‘Diversity: A Capitalist’s Dream’. It gives detailed information regarding how the evolutionary process of business is being affected. Moreover, it is vital that leaders that are involved in Diversity Programs understand and recognize their organizations well, in order to achieve maximum effectiveness. Certain factors need to be known in order for the power to be effectively unleashed. It is believed that through diversity management that is effective the organization’s productivity will improve. Also, it will be possible to ensure that the various market place segments are accessed; processes are improved, as well lifting the employee’s morale. There is no reason why any business that wants to succeed should not follow this organizational practice. Furthermore, organizations should know that there is a relation between revenues and costs and diversity management. Since many companies are becoming extremely diverse, it is vital that they are managed and understood well. The workforce is diverse because people are from various religions and races. In order for performance in an organization to improve, there must be a workforce that is diverse. Leaders who are aware about diversity can easily communicate to other employees, and, therefore, reduce stereotyping.

There are some people who are against diversity as they claim that it leads to discrimination at the work place. Also, other employees become easily misunderstood, due to their various backgrounds. The objective of equality is still far from being achieved as people have not yet embraced it. In my opinion, I believe that diversity should be encouraged, and policies set up to encourage it. Employees should be informed before hand, in case there might be new employees, who are different from them. This reduces the cases of resistance from the employees, and in turn, a conducive environment for work exists. Indeed, diversity management is a practice that should be implemented in every organization, due to the challenges that are associated with it.

Advantages of UK remaining in the EU

Introduction

The current British Prime Minister David Cameron, on January 23, announced that a referendum would be held sometime in 2017 on whether or not the UK would remain a member of the European Union. A recent opinion poll conducted by The Times indicated that a majority of the British people are in favor of the nation’s secession from the EU block (Watson,2013). This happened at a time when experts are warning of negative consequences for the British economy as well as UK’s influence on the global stage. In this paper, we explore the advantages and disadvantages of EU membership for the UK. We also evaluate how would a UK outside the EU look like?

What is the European Union?

The EU is a political and economic union of twenty seven (27) member states who are all primarily situated in Europe (Bomber & Stubb,2003).The European Union operates via a system of supranational institutions that are independent in nature as well as decisions that are intergovernmental negotiated. Prior to World War II, nations never had any forms of cooperation. However, such cooperation became necessary after World War II due to the political and economic crisis that affected nations at that time. During the pos-World War II era, nations became more open for cooperation and many more united in an attempt to realize mutual benefits (Watts,2008;Boston,2005). This allowed them an opportunity of working together through the formation of international organizations such as G8,World Trade Organization (WTO) and Western European Group. International organizations in this case are defined by McCormick (2005) as organizations that comprise of a group of individuals who work in harmony in order to bring about peace, love and harmony between among the people.

EU is one of the early organizations that were founded after World War II (sometime is 1950’s).At the start when this organization was formed, it was known as European Economic Community (EEC).The European Union however was conceived in 1993 (Goodson ,2009).The EU policies are developed and adopted rationally in accordance to various commissions. The European Union’s regional policy is noted to give more opportunity to nations that are less developed in order for them to get a chance of improving their standards of living.

Advantages of UK remaining in the EU

There are several advantages that the UK derives from the EU. The first one is European Single Market.AS noted by Europa (2009) the European Union member states have come up with a single market comprising of more that half a billion people million people .This allows firms to trade in the international market. Additionally, he noted that, competing individually as well as Making of products and services in the European Union states would be quite expensive and very difficult.

Other than this, the EU has created policies that are used for preventing people from any instance of terrorism. The treaty of Lisbon (2007) clearly states that the EU’s main priority is to guarantee the safety as well as security of its members.

Disadvantages

There are several disadvantages to the UK if it continues being in the EU. The very first one is the loss of sovereignty by the member states.
