Summary of What I Learned From Tutorial Session

Upon attending the tutoring session, I engaged myself fully in the session by being attentive and asking the tutor some questions in order to participate fully and learn more. Among the questions I asked include what tools I could use during my studies to learn more and how I could apply critical thinking in answering course work questions. I also inquired about how to formulate a thesis and develop appropriate thesis statements when writing essays. The session provided me with valuable interpersonal, communication, and listening skills. The tutorial session made me discover a new understanding of concepts that helped me enrich my academic studies. In addition, I learned how to explain various concepts in a multitude of ways to accord with my learning style. It also taught me how to hone my communication skills since I may have to explain complex theories in more straightforward language. The session helped to gain experience when networking with other students and professors.

I am confident that the tutoring skills I learned from the tutoring session made me a qualified employer in the near future. Such skills include empathy, positivity, confidentiality, active listening, leadership, communication, and technical knowledge. The session was more effective in a way that it helped increase my attitude and motivation to reach full academic potential. Apart from that, it was more effective in a way that it taught me to think critically about problems and how to solve them. These skills will always help me to face and overcome challenges faced during my studies. During the session, I was given a chance to participate fully by asking questions or commenting. I think the session was more effective.

Custody Case

In cases of divorce or the cases where the parents are no longer living together, the court has the jurisdiction to determine child custody arrangements. When determining which home to put a child, the court has to go all-out to reach a decision that focuses on the best interests of the child. The decision as to consider the wishes of the child’s parents and the relationship the child has with both the parents.

From the case, there are many significant facts from both parties involved in the case. For instance, when one looks at the mother, she does have an environment that is not suitable for the child. She does have violence, and her boyfriend uses drugs that he once admitted this in court. This is dangerous for the mother, but good for the father since the father has only been charged with assault but he did corporate with the relevant authorities. Additionally, comparing the life history for both parties, the mother seems to have many problems that the father. At some point, the mother said that her father tried to chock her. This means that the mother has many issues hence the violence she shows. Unlike the mother, the father seems to have a smooth life history than the mother.

The father of this case should be given primary residence of the child. This is because when comparing who has the best environment for the growth and development of the child is the father. The father does not have any anger issues or the presence of drugs around him. The mother in this case should be given standard visitation of the child every 1st, 3rd, & fifth weekend of the month. This is because the child does want to go visit his mother. The grandparents should have extended visitation time in the summer. This is because when a child is there, he seems to enjoy himself and also seem to be in a playful mood. This is good for his development.

Evidence-Based Practice

According to Sendelbach’s article, “Evidence-Based Practice: Then and Now” nurses ought to stay current regarding new evidence-based practice findings regarding their area of practice. As a nurse, it is a personal responsibility to ensure that the services he/she is providing and implementing are the most beneficial to the patient. Evidence-based practice helps nurses stay current regarding both new research results and the effectiveness of their services.

When it comes to evidence-based practice, there are a few factors that must be taken into consideration. The first being that evidence-based practice is not just about what the best clinical practice is; it involves resources, economics, philosophy, politics and ethical issues that must be considered as well. Nurses need to understand that these factors and more contribute to how decisions are made within an organization or institution (Sendelbach, 2008). The benefit of evidence-based practice is that it provides nurses with a concrete way to measure how their services are performing and how the outcome or level of care can be improved.

The second point that Sendelbach makes is the concept of “staying current”. It is a term used when referring to health care professionals. She describes staying current as: “being up-to-date in one’s field, being aware of the latest findings and trends, keeping abreast of all research results from one’s specialty through attending meetings, reading journals and books, consulting experts on hospital websites”. The means by which nurses stay current is different for each nurse and depends on his/her particular education level. The author states that, “We need to find ways to get such information into practicing clinicians in the best, most timely manner, so that no patient has to wait a decade or longer for the best evidence-based care” (Sendelbach, 2008).
