US Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime. (1999). breaking the cycle of violence: Recommendations to improve the criminal justice response to child victims and witnesses.

In this article, it is clear that children are the ones who suffer the most when it comes to sexual abuse cases. This is because with the innocence children portray it is very easy to lure them into sexual abuse and later it hurts them badly. The study aimed to study research for ways to end the cycle of child abuse violence and come up with ways to stop child abuse in the United States of America. The people who were involved in the study are the parents of the children, the criminals as well as the reformed ones and the children who had been or were abused. These criminals who are engaged in sexual abuse among children are very much considered to be in need of serious reform.

This is because abusing children is considered one of the greatest kinds of sexual offenses a person can do and therefore the reform services the criminals are exposed to makes sure that by the time, they are done with their period of service they are fully reformed and better people who realize that sexually abusing children is a very wrong thing to do. The results were that a great number of children who were sexually abused never grew into adulthood as normal people since the abuse affected them so much such that they went into different areas of their lives they could not have done into if it was not for the abuse. However, at the same time, those who abused the children were apprehended and they themselves properly reformed into better people.

Alliance, A. W. A. V. Sexual violence: law reform and access to justice.

This is a paper based on the Australian way of dealing with sexual abuse criminals and victims and helping both to come back to normal. The research was carried out by Australian women against violence alliance. It is one of the five national alliances funded by the government. The purpose of the paper was to come up with recommendations on how best the sexual abuse cases and victims can be dealt with in the best manner possible that appeals to the society, does not go over the human rights and makes sure that sexual abuse is done away with.

How New Legislation Could Help Victims Of Sexual Abuse. (2020, February 5). Oxygen Official Site. https://www.oxygen.com/the-witnesses/crime-news/how-new-legislation-could-help-victims-of-sexual-abuse

‌This article discusses the different laws which have been put into place by different legislations and specifically in relation to the children and generally sexual abuse. The states like the district Columbia came up with different laws which give more power to the person abused and this therefore makes it very difficult for the abuser to get away. This therefore is a kind of reform and when this is applied the abusers have to deter from their desire to sexually abuse children and other people since they fear what might come to them when it comes to judgment and law application.

Introduction (thesis statement)

Limitations of research

One of the major limitations of this research is identifying the children who have witnessed crime and finding a way to help them. When children experience abuse and aggressive behaviors which lead to violence, they are terrified and this usually leads to negative effects on them in the future. When children experience violence and abuse when young even if they do not suffer directly but are involved in seeing such acts, they are prone to become violent in their life in later days. Therefore, it is a challenge to this research on how to identify such children and the resources to give each of the victim’s specific care that is needed for them to be able to overcome the results of experiencing abuse or violence when young.

Another limitation which this research will experience is the issue of confidentiality when it comes to care for the clients. Even though it is a good practice sometimes it hinders reseachers from acquiring very important information which they can use for their researches and they become groundbreaking.

Implications For Research and Practice

With this type of information, it becomes easier for the organizations involved in taking care of children and preventing them from experiencing such violent acts and abuse to take action and focus on the areas mentioned by the research which need action. The recommendations part of the research is exactly what is most important in practicing caution and care for the victims as well as apprehending the criminals. Through the recommendations given at the end of the research and after data analysis it becomes easier for the other researchers in the field to get something to develop on. One implication of the study is that through the assessment of the victim services, quality of services will improve and because of this more people will get assisted. Most of the people who will be safeguarded will be children and through safeguarding the children the future can be made better since the reasons which make them prone to violence when adults will be reduced by the research.

Controversies, Disagreements and Similarities

The major controversy which arises in the articles is the fact that two of the articles talk about the justice system in united states while one talks about justice system in Australia and specifically about sexual abuse. Even though this article (Alliance, A. W. A. V. Sexual violence: law reform and access to justice), is an Australian one and ca be viewed as a contradiction of the research since the research is based on the United States, it is actually a similarity in that with the research and literature review there will be a realization that what it stands for is the same as what is represented by the other two articles. Another similarity is that all the three articles agree that children need protection and care against their abusers.

Conclusion

Despite the fact that there have been efforts to do away with sexual abuse, it has not been adequate and there is abuse each and every day across the united states which needs to be addressed. Therefore, this research having looked into the many cases of abuse and how victim services help those who are affected, there is hope that changes will happen and the people affected will be able to recover as well as prevent any future victims of sexual abuse.

Discovering Los Angeles

Introduction

Several years ago, I visited Los Angeles for the first time. I arrived in the city one Monday morning, flanked by my spouse. It was cold for an August morning, but the thrill that filled me for coming into such a city made me feel comfortable. The city was new to me, and I initially thought that I would encounter many strange things in my stay there. However, I was mistaken because there was one thing that made me feel like a local. I learnt the art of swimming, an activity that I feared for long since I was a small kid. This activity, and the feeling that it brought with it made me feel like a local or a resident of L.A. This essay is aimed at explaining in details the experience that made me feel just like a local, and not like a stranger in Los Angeles.

Body

Studying or learning something new can be a very daunting encounter. One of the toughest activities I had to do was learn how to swim properly. I have always felt scared of water, but I now believe that swimming is a very crucial skill for one to learn either for competition or fun reasons. Whatever the reason is, swimming is a good exercise and encourages self-discipline. What I did not recognize was that working out swimming would help me become more self-confident and also make my time in Los Angeles worthwhile and memorable at the same time.

For me, my swimming training was not a agonizing encounter because my trainer was a individual that I already knew. The trainer was my spouse who had travelled to Los Angeles with me. She used to be a swimming trainer, and I was present in a number of her classes in the past with past learners she had. Therefore, I realized how she proved helpful. Her grin and tolerance were encouraging enough for any shy student that desired to understand how to swim.

The initial feeling I would have predicted was discomfort for being a novice in something that my own spouse was already a professional. However, this did not happen at all. Actually, I experienced so much thrill because I was going to encounter something new with a individual I already knew. That means that I saw the shiny aspects. Nevertheless, my greatest issue was that I had to face my greatest fear: the water. Floating was the very first thing I learnt to do. Half of my worries were gone as soon as I experienced the floating feeling. I handled and enjoyed that for several hours. The other step was to take the water pizza off and use a kickboard in order to learn how to punch for the breaststroke. This was an easy process, so I learned how to punch within two days.

Things turned more complex when my trainer taught me the arm swings. It was somehow difficult for me because I had to focus on two factors, my divisions. I must acknowledge that I am not the most synchronized individual, so it took me a while to get along with the throwing and the arm patting performing both at the same time. I ingested lots of water during those classes and experienced foolish feelings but as soon as I started swimming the silly feelings transformed into an amazing sensation close to that of traveling over the water. Essentially I was overcoming my greatest fear.

Learning to swim turned out to be a less concerning encounter than I thought it would be. Actually, not only did I handle and overcome one of my greatest worries, but I also discovered that going through a process with relaxed and persistence might lead to complete success. It definitely seems amazing when you accomplish the objective you have set for yourself. Learning to swim was not simple for me, but at the end of all these, my determination paid off. Not only did I understand how to swim and to overcome my worry of the water, but I also discovered something about learning. Now when I am experienced with a new scenario I am not so anxious as I have learned that I can do everything if I am keen and attentive.

Conclusion

Los Angeles for me proved to be a second home. I was not in any way homesick or disappointed at what I expected of the entire city. I felt like a local and did what the locals were doing. This was in contrary to other cities that I have visited whereby I felt like an intruder or a stranger who was unwanted. In conclusion, Los Angeles was an interesting city, given the fact that I learned something new that I had not thought of learning previously. I literally lived a proper and beautiful life there, and I would revisit L.A in the future.

culture and environment influence

Culture and the environment in which a person lives have enormous influence on the character of a person. More specifically, culture influence the personality of an individual by controlling the norms and ethics that a person follows. Some cultural beliefs influence a person’s view and perspectives on many issues in life. Environment of a person has an enormous power on a person’s life just like culture. Humans tend to imitate the surrounding environment especially while growing up. As a result, humans learn and later on, develop traits of the people from the surrounding area. The physical environment together with the social environment both impacts a person’s life immensely.

One way in which culture can influence a person is by emphasis on individualism during growth (Bryan, 2009). Such cultures lay preference on developing oneself with the aim of creating responsible, decisive individuals who do not depend on other people to make critical life decisions. These cultures lay emphasis on personal achievements and unique character of individuals. As a result, people from this type of culture become introverts because of the prominence made on individual self. Such people have no social friends whatsoever and lack strong relationships with the rest of the society.

Bryan (2009) states that cultures which accentuate collectivism can create good social skills within a person. These cultures encourage groups as opposed to self-identity of individuals. Consequently, group values are encouraged and everything is done within these groups. The relationship between individuals is more important and interdependence tends to be high in such cultures. These cultures result to individuals who have good social skills however, these individuals in most cases, lack self –identity and strong individual character. Individuals from such cultures are indecisive due to the overreliance on group think.

The type of culture can also affect the social welfare of an individual (Sigelman & Ridler, 2010). Individuals from cultures with good welfare systems are always optimistic in life. They tend to be confident of themselves and their abilities. Such people have a lot of potential to be successful in life because of their positive attitude. This is a sharp contrast with individuals from cultures with poor welfare conditions. These kind of people are pessimists and less confident of their abilities. With a negative attitude in life, individuals from such cultures, in most occasions, do not become successful in their lives.

An environment of can immensely influence a person’s character traits according to Bryan (2009). The way a person perceives his environment will affect a person’s emotion. An environment with strong and stable relationships can make a person become caring and concerned about others. In this kind of environment, people attend to others and equally care about them. This kind of environment is characterized with harmonious relationships and peaceful co-existence. This environment can influence a person to learn to live peaceful with others and have good inter-personal skills. Furthermore, people from this kind of environment are humane and very caring and humble in nature.

According to Sigelman & Ridler (2010), war –tone environments with disruptive social relations influence individuals to be cruel and even violent. People from this kind of environment are normally poor socially and with very high temper. These individuals do not like to socialize with other people because they are suspicious of anyone around them. They tend to treat everyone with contemp. These people easily become angry and therefore, do not have friends or sometimes very few friends. Individuals from violent areas become violent at the least provocation. They can easily kill, maim or torture a person because they are accustomed to such acts. Generally, individual from war-tone areas are very violent and at times can be very barbaric.

Culture and environment are crucial in influencing one’s life as discussed above. Individualistic cultures produce people with strong characters while collectivists’ cultures influence people to be more social. A stable environment also produces people who are caring while unstable and violent environments have a negative influence on people.
