Disadvantages of using paper checks

Automation and advancement in the financial world tends to make check payments lose its popularity to other forms of payment such as credit and debit cards because of the conveniences associated with them. Checks are normally time consuming because it takes longer time to write, process and clear compared to a credit or debit card. Taking a quick credit card swipe is much faster than writing a check, which delays for two to three business days before it is cleared into an individual’s account (Schneider, 2011). Checks may therefore not help when dealing with urgent matters that require quick transactions.

According to Schneider (2011), checks may be unsafe because merchants handling checks usually get access to individual account number, names, and other contact information that may make it easy to perpetrate fraud. Moreover, when checks are processed as electronic debits, merchants have access to personal account that may give them chance to make unauthorized deductions. In addition, compared to the debit cards that only require a four digit PIN, checks usually need signatures, which may be easily imitated by a third party.

On the other hand, when an account holder or signatory to the check gets serious accidents that, they cannot sign the checks; it is obvious that the checks cannot work because there may be issues of mismatch in signatures. Not all merchants because of payment delays and possibility of bounced checks may accept checks (Schneider, 2011). Keeping accurate financial record may is very cumbersome and time consuming especially when dealing with cancelled checks because they normally leave paper trails that the account owner must follow in case of fraud or theft. Reconciling the bank statement with the canceled checks is not an easy task.

2. Basic structure of a phishing attack

Schneider (2011) explains that phishing has been rampant in the recent years as expert criminals turn to the huge amount of money involved in the online payment systems. The technique that involves committing fraud against clients of online business is common amongst financial institutions whose customers expect high degree of security. The basic structure of a phishing attack sees an attacker sending e-mail messages to several recipients who may be account holders at the targeted Web site such as PayPal or Skrill. The messages that also include some links that appear as the link to the login Web site, normally informs the recipients that their accounts have been compromised and that they should log in to the account to correct the issue.

Instead, the links attached normally lead the users of the accounts to the phishing attack perpetrator’s Web site that looks almost similar to the targeted Web site. The recipient then ignorantly enters the login name and passwords, which the perpetrator captures immediately and uses in accessing the recipient’s account where they can easily access victim’s account and make purchases or withdraw funds any time they may wish.

In some cases, the email may be designed to target a specific person or an organization, a fraud known as spear phishing that requires considerable research on the intended recipient (Schneider, 2011). This form of exploit normally increases the chances of letting the victim open their email and click the link to the phishing Web site. Such kinds of attacks have targeted employees of some organizations that normally use acronyms and familiar terms or languages thus gaining the victims’ trust hence convincing them to click on the phishing link.

Local history of the area

Strathfield Synagogue

The building’s history dates back to the early 1940s, during World War II (September 1, 1939 – September 2, 1945). Several Jewish families migrated to Strathfield from the Eastern Suburbs at the period to get away from a feared Japanese invasion on the harbor or Kingsford Smith Airport (Gibson, 2014). Some continue to stay in Strathfield since they had business interests in Parramatta. ‘The Centre’ attracted a multitude people in the 1950s that it needed to expand. As a result, the historic building at 19 Florence Street was purchased. Phillip’s organizational framework encouraged communal solidarity and collaboration, emphasized learning, and formed the Strathfield Centre’s distinct tone and mood. H. P. Oser, an architect, crafted the New Synagogue Building. In June 1959, the foundation stone was placed, and the synagogue inaugurated in September of that year.

Sri Karphaga Vinayakar Temple

The Sri Karphaga Vinayagar Shrine in Sydney is a Ganesh temple. Each month’s vinayakar/Ganesh chathurthi and sankadahara chathurthi were commemorated as a special occasion, peaking in the Vinayakar/Ganesh Chathurthi of Avani in August/September, which was the year’s grandest event. Due to this, Hindu New Year celebrations such as Navarathri, Skanthashashti, Thiruvembavai, Deepavali/Diwali, Shiv Rathri, Tamil and English New Year have also been observed with zeal. Numerous people are feeling the Karphaga Vinayakar’s Divine Grace, and there is a rush of dedication and cooperation from the general population. Volunteers attend to help with temple activities such as establishing a garden surrounding the temple and washing it, among other things. Every Friday, devotees and volunteers participate in Kootu Praarthanai with great zeal. The Hindu Sri Karphgaga Vinayakar Temple in Sydney is dedicated to Ganesha, the God of Creation and overcoming Obstacles. Individuals from the Indian community worship Ganesha before rituals, weddings, pilgrimages, trips to faraway areas, and visits to teachers and stores because Winship thinks Ganesha will assist them in approaching their deities. Ganesha’s fractured right side of the curled ivory tusk is one of his performing characters, symbolizing that there is no absolute ideal fate in the world. Sacrifices have to be made in order to preserve achievement, knowledge, or insight. On the premise of rebirth and god’s reward and retribution, it directs adherents’ statements and behavior.

Shirdi Sai Temple

Whether there is anything Shirdi Sai Baba is known for, it must be the freedom he gives his followers to worship in any way they want. This temple is a symbol of such freedom, a haven for all devotees seeking solace from the stresses of everyday life and materialism. “If you look at me, I will look at you,” Baba used to say. In truth, it is Baba who has chosen Sydney as the location for the temple, not the Sansthan. Baba wishes to give his devotees a location where they can joyfully shout his glories and open their hearts to him in order to witness his miracles.

Debates

Sri Karphaga Vinayakar Temple

The council to rule on historical classification is one of the current disputes swirling around the temple, but the proposal has struck a roadblock in the guise of a proposal to classify the synagogue as a local heritage object (Narunsky, 2021). The council must decide if the structure or the memorials therein have historical and cultural significance and are therefore worth protecting.

Sri Karphaga Vinayakar Temple

The current debate surrounding this temple is Development Application. Existing structures to be demolished, and build a Hindu Temple to serve as a centre of public devotion, relocating the amenities.

Shirdi Sai Temple

There may not be any debates about the location of the Shridi Sai Temple. 1. A Baba devotee, Kishen Bhaisaheb, selected a location from an Indian rental agency. 2. Guruji, another Baba devotee in India, had pledged to build 108 Baba temples all across the globe, and he did not mind if the site in Sydney was temporary, so he immediately informed Kishen Bhaisaheb to choose this location.

Similarities

All of the temples are utilised as cultural centres. In the case of Strathfield Synagogue, Judaism is the dominant culture. The majority of the events were focused on either education or fundraising. The yearly Purim celebration, the demo Seder, the Chanukah parade, and the Sukkah decorating were all fun for the kids. Adults had the yearly fete, monthly card parties, anniversaries, and house parties, as well as an infinite series of meetings that doubled as social gatherings. Both the Sri Karphaga Vinayakar Temple and the Shirdi Sai Temple are used for practicing Hinduism.

Differences

Strathfield Synagogue

The initial purpose for the structure within the community was to educate the younger generation about Judaism (Malone, 2021). There was a period when cheder lessons were also conducted on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons after class. The Yolanda Kramer Kindergarten: which did serve the local area till the synagogue was acquired. Within, a memorial to Jewish war victims was established, as well as a commemoration wall recording the names of people murdered by the Nazis.

Sri Karphaga Vinayakar Temple

Sri Karphaga Vinayakar Temple is a canteen that serves not only Garnish as well as other deities. Worshippers hold auspicious events for all blessings and barriers to be removed.

Shirdi Sai Temple

In commemoration of Ebenezer Vickery, an Australian industrialist, pastoralist, and philanthropist, the site has been utilized as an organic chapel. Brundah, a Victorian-style mansion, Leigh College Hall, a neo-Georgian Revival-style building that served as an educational facility for the Islam, and the E. Vickery Memorial Chapel, which was renovated into Shirdi Sai Temple, are all part of the property. Because Hindu structures are constructed within madrasas, it is a combination of Islam and India to a certain degree. Shirdi Sai Baba has followers in both Hinduism and Islam, but he lacks the sense of freedom that belonging and believing imply.

Disadvantages of Pursuing Further Education

Finishing off my high school year with the thoughts of furthering my education, debating and wondering, would it even be necessary? Is college a necessity or is it inessential? With all my family members deciding for me, I was left with no choice. Many people are often urged by those close to them to go to college. But what they are not told are the many challenges that will come with being in college; debts to be incurred, mental health challenges and the juggling between time and balance. There are many reasons to pursue further education, but there are many disadvantages that come with it.

The first disadvantage of pursuing further education is that there are massive levels of debt that the student will incur. College tuition is often an expensive affair, and the other associated costs such as housing, textbooks, transportation among others add to the burden that a student and their family face. There are loans made available by the government and other institutions to help the students foot their bills. Only later will the student come to realize that their loans will be a significant burden to them in their life after college. When the student manages to secure employment after college, a large amount of their income will go towards offsetting their debt, thus setting them back on achieving their other dreams in life.

Another challenge that comes with pursuing further education is that the decision is often made at a young age before the student can weigh their options carefully. Most students have the courses that they will pursue laid out for them by family and friends, and they often bow to the pressure. They do not take time to consider their passions and factor them in when choosing a career path. They decided what is believed to be prestigious or well paying. After some time, they can end up being frustrated and even drop out of their courses. This is unfortunate since the student may already have spent a lot of time and resources. This is also a source of discouragement and disillusionment.

Further education is not an effective method of learning; apprenticeship is a better way. For most jobs, the skills sets that are required can be gained right at the workplace. The person can just identify what they would like to do, where they would want to do it and approach the business or institution of their choice. Partnerships can be created with the government to promote such arrangements which will be very beneficial. Further education means that an individual will be tied down to one field which takes up a lot of time and money and may not yield much in terms of actual skills and experience. So aside from careers that require precise training such as medicine or nursing, going to college is not worth the while.

Pursuing further education has been touted to come with a myriad of advantages. This will often pressure the young people often at an impressionable stage in life to limit or confine them to a life they may regret in the future. They may be attracted to an illusion that will later come back to haunt them. In my opinion, further education is a waste of time and resources. Students should pursue other avenues such as on the job training. The challenges that come with further education such as debts and dissatisfaction in a career can be easily avoided. Some other consequences such as mental health challenges that come with disappointment and unfulfillment can best be avoided by not pursuing higher education.
