Sri Lanka is a country that enjoys a myriad of career opportunities

Sri Lanka is a country that enjoys a myriad of career opportunities. A foreigner requires a Sri Lankan visa to explore such opportunities. The global development index indicates a substantial growth in the number of jobs available online for Sri Lanka. The number of career opportunities has also been on the rise, enabling both locals and foreigners explore their passions alike. The Sri Lanka visa has provided a unique opportunity for all to work and live in Sri Lanka, with the full rights of a citizen. Sri Lanka visa is available in all immigration offices in the various consulates across the world. Interested applicants are encouraged to fill application forms and wait for the visa-processing period as required.

Overview

Sri Lanka is endowed with a strong economy that harbours most of its labour force within its economy. Most of the careers available in this economy and the education system are distributed across the various spheres of the economy. The leadership remains indiscriminate in their hiring, providing opportunities for many of the graduates irrespective of the course pursued in the course of their training. This skill- gap has been bridged efficiently through retraining of the workforce, making labour mobility higher and reliable. Employees from less lucrative areas have been able to receive more training to fine-tune them to match the required skillset for other sectors. The increasing levels of entrepreneurship from the locals and the international entrepreneurs through the Sri Lanka visa have been a wave of change that has brought tremendous business success into the country.

Career opportunities online

The Sri Lankan economy is an economy that strongly relies on the internet for product sale and purchases. The markets are characterised by a strong investment in online marketing. The economy has a significant population working on web-based jobs that allow them to work from their homes or their favourite cafes. Online jobs range from marketing, web design, freelance to online contracting. Increasingly, the internet has been used as a platform that allows the citizens to access important information and data increasing the geographical mobility of the labour force through information provision.

Formal careers in Sri Lanka

The formal sector in Sri Lanka employs about 36% of the total labour force while the rest is employed in the informal sector. The formal sector has been on the rise owed to the increased levels of education and the increased labour migration due to the Sri Lanka visa. The visa has allowed labour inflow into the country allowing a larger participation from foreign membership across the globe. Agriculture is a major player in the overall employment and careers consequently. About 84.3% of the informal employment in Sri Lanka is in agriculture.

Informal careers in Sri Lanka

63.5% is the population proportion of labour force under the informal sector. These statistics show that most of the career opportunities in Sri Lanka are agriculture based. However, agribusiness has come up as one of the most promising ventures in modern agriculture. Sri Lanka has become a global icon in agribusiness making it a flourishing part of the entire economy.

Major concerns

There are various major concerns that information security professionals and SQL database administrators should have with SQL injection attacks. The first concern is the Authentication bypass where the attacker logs on to the application possibly with administrative privileges without providing a suitable user name and password. Second is the sensitive information disclosure. Third is the compromised data integrity which involves illegal modifications of database contents. The other concerns are the compromised availability of data and remote command execution where the attacker compromises the host operating system by means of database command execution (Sammut & Schiffman, 2013).

Why attacks are popular by hackers

These attacks are popular among hackers, both malicious and ethical because of the following reasons. First is the insufficient input validation when using SQL statements to build web applications, second is the improper construction of SQL statements in web applications. These two reasons expose such applications to injection attacks. In addition, some attackers participate in such activities as a means of doing online business to earn a living, making it hard for them to stop the activities (Sammut & Schiffman, 2013).

Best practices for protecting against SQL injection

The two most critical best practices for protecting against SQL injection attacks include detection and blockage at the application traffic flow and at the network traffic flow. The defense in the application traffic flow involves the use of validation of data supplied by the user in the form of either whitelisting or blacklisting. It also includes the construction of SQL statements in such a way that user data can not affect the statement logic. The defense in the network traffic flow involves administrators and developers adding security to the available application. This addition is done by leveraging technologies within the network, particularly intrusion prevention systems. The detection and prevention of SQL injection attack in this case is carried out by means of intrusion prevention system (Wichers, Manico & Seil, 2014).

I do not fully believe that there are significant efforts for security professionals who implement these best practices. This is because of the ever existing reports of hacking especially by Chinese to American websites and other sites as well. If the professionals were committed enough, then such reports could be part of history by now.

Urban Planning in the Renaissance

Urban Planning in the Renaissance

Introduction:

Renaissance urban planning was influenced by many historical and cultural factors of the day. The three major aspects of the European Renaissance were urbanization, urban design and urban planning. Urbanization is the trend of a society to increase population around cities or urban centers. Urban design refers to the physical layout of streets, buildings and spaces. Urban planning is the state intervention into the process of urbanization, a political process. The growth of cities during the Renaissance was due to four primary social and cultural factors; modernization of warfare, colonial expansion creating networks of trade, dangers of rapid urbanization and changes in Christianity.

Beginning in the 12th Century, increased trade to outposts brought about the rise in small merchant traders not dependent on feudal lords. New classes of elites not tied to the Roman Catholic Church were created. This brought about a mix of cultural, artistic and scientific changes in the 14th century. This renaissance was largely due to the wealthy merchant families from the different city-states. These families aggressively and competitively funded art, education and sciences in an effort to maintain power and prestige. These investments had a direct and profound imprint on urban planning and design. This caused a “… increase in the grandeur and number of public buildings.” ( Argan, pg. 24). The rebuilding of cities allowed patrons and architects opportunity to design the ideal city. Most streets were laid-out from the center and from one monument to another creating dramatic vistas. Scale and proportion on buildings became important on street facades. One can see from the aerial photo of Palmanova that the town is laid-out as a radial city with the piazza and cathedral in the center. The radial arms that extend from the center have wide streets that are flanked by buildings of the same scale. These monuments made up “… the heart of the city… on which both the historical and ideological symbolism rested. “ ( Argon, pg. 27). City design became the “ … stage for human actions.” ( Argon, pg. 21). The Palmanova town center can be envisioned as a stage.

Due to the modernization of warfare, medieval fortresses became ineffective. The introduction of gunpowder and artillery made walled medieval cities vulnerable. Urban design became a matter of elaborate fortifications and city-states were forced to adapt new engineering methods. Fortification design became “… both defensive and aggressive.” ( Argon, pg. 18). Cities began to spring up around military garrisons on frontiers. Palmanova is one-such town. It is designed as a nine-point star. Each rampart sticks out so that it can defend the other and create a killing zone for artillery cross-fire. As one looks at the map of Manta, the garrison forts that are located across the water, protecting the entry of each bridge, are a town/fort unto itself. As a port town, Manta is surrounded by a defensive wall. The two entries into the interior the boat dock areas are defended as-well.

Colonial exploration and exploitation was the cause expansion of maritime trade on a regional scale. The crusades had the effect of introducing spices, silk and other products into Europe, resulting in dramatic increases in demand for these products. Knowledge and new perspectives on cities and urban design were also observed from other cultures and manifested at home. This trade became a major factor in the growth, form and symbolic significance of Renaissance cities. Manta was a city that arose from maritime trade.

The rapid urbanization of European cities created numerous problems to the fabric of society. Fires and plagues would devastate cities in Europe, not once but often numerous times. These disasters lead to public involvement in sanitation, construction and other areas. Urban planners began to design cities in response to these factors. Construction materials were mandated and widening of streets to act as fire blocks became standard. The aerial view of Palmanova shows integration of these design elements.

Christianity had a huge influence on city growth and patterns. Two patterns of cities emerged, one based and modeled after Rome, with administrative control through the Catholic Church, and one where merchant towns were more secular. The Protestant Reformation in the 16th Century strengthened the merchant class. The Reformation supported the idea that legitimate work ethic and profit were no longer seen as sinful.

Many of the urban design ideals of the Renaissance are in-use today. Washington D.C. is a city that embodies many of these urban design philosophies. It is designed as a city that is connected by boulevards from one monument to another. All buildings have height and set-back restrictions that protect the scale of the city and it’s monuments. Variations of the Renaissance fort designs have been used by the English, French and Americans prior to World War II. The Renaissance was truly an age of rebirth and cultural enlightenment that is still relevant today.
